We built a new house in 2021 and a local landscaper put in our yard the following year. The lawn was very thin and was riddled with bare spots. The landscaper ended up getting in financial trouble and went out of business toward the beginning of this year, so I knew that it was going to be on me to overseed and get the lawn turned around. A few RU-vid channels, but mostly yours, provided me with fairly easy tips on how to get the lawn looking its best. We survived a very dry summer (with lots of watering) and had a very successful overseeding in September. Currently wrapping up my "nitrogen blitz" this weekend before the weather starts to drop here in NE Ohio. Everyone says our yard looks like a golf course, and I can't even to describe the contrast from how it looked the beginning of this year. Thank you for all of the tips and insights. Will continue to follow the channel so that next season we'll keep it looking it's best. Thanks!

What a tough but amazing year. I appreciate you taking us along for the journey and all your hard work to get things established at this new property. I started following you around two years ago, when my mom purchased a home and I realized we didn’t have grass but I did have healthy weeds and dirt for a yard (crab, clovers, dandelions, etc). I would always try to cut as low as possible and let it grow as tall as it could go because I hated cutting an uneven yard that always made my mower choke and in the end, I didn’t even have a rewarding final product. When I ran into your videos and realized the first step is to kill the weeds and given my situation I realized what I had to do, and after purchasing the strongest weed killer I could get my hands on I destroyed our entire front and back yard, you can imagine how happy my mom was. Long story short 2 years down the road we have already aerated, reseeded, applied our fall fertilizer, created your temporary above ground irrigation system, and even got rid of some trees to lessen the shade, and I’m praying for the best, like you said it’s a marathon not a sprint. Now that I have a newborn lawn with real grass I want to say thank you for all you teach for free, very honest straight forward information that has been able to elevate our property. I can’t wait to one day level our yard as I can now focus on the minor details since you helped me take care of the general transformation

Learned my lesson the hard way with planting rye in a dense shade situation and having too much moisture with having 90+ percent humidity. I got hit with pythium and lost a bunch of grass. Will start over next spring with an over seed of a shade mix in that area.

I got my bag of RyanRye grass seed and put some out in a kinda smaller area(a long west facing parkway strip) and due to the awkward weather in Aug and other time commitments it didn't go down until the start of Oct .... but it came up great! and after a few lite mows recently started to turn a nice dark color and thicken up .... I just didn't have time to get the other larger area prep done for reseeding, and could not wait any later; so that I'll try to fill/level/smooth some before winter then seed in spring - I can confirm it performs as shown in these videos

Great year-end video Ryan. I have KBG and just applied my last spoon-feed of 46-0-0 as temps are now down to 6/7C now. Did a heavy dethatch in early Sept followed by overseed of KBG elite blend. Last winter had, what I consider, a high dose of snow mold. I’ve kept the grass at 2” all year (have irrigation). At what height would you recommend cutting the grass (to carryover winter in the Great Lakes area) to hopefully mitigate snow mold. 🇨🇦🙏
@ryanknorrlawncare
@ryanknorrlawncare 9 месяцев назад
I don't think there's necessarily a way to avoid it with some of the snowfall those areas get. I used to see it the worst on my low cut turf so the height being low didn't matter.

I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos for the past 5 years. You have provided so much information for all of us to learn from . Great work on your new lawn, It looks amazing! I just have a question. I just seeded a new patch of tall fescue grass around a new concrete slab of about 80 square feet on Oct 16th. It has germinated and the grass is about 1/4 inch tall in some places, very young grass. I am hear in central Iowa really close to you in fact. We are supposed to be seeing some overnight temps in the 20's in the next 5-7 days. Would you recommend covering the patch with a clear piece of plastic to keep the young grass seedlings from freezing or should I just leave it alone and hope for the best?

Ryan, I planted your Elite Tall Fescue in my front lawn this fall and it looks Gorgeous! What fertilizer did you use on the recovery Tall Fescue plot? (Equalizer I’m guessing) And do you recommend keeping the Tall Fescue at 2 inches during the summer as well to help with fungus issues? Everyone always says to keep it longer in the summer, but in humid regions (I’m in PA), it seems like heat stress and humid conditions overnight always results in fungus with a taller cut
@ryanknorrlawncare
@ryanknorrlawncare 9 месяцев назад
I used my MaxORR G granular and I'm not sure there's any way to completely prevent fungus on the fescue in the humid conditions we have without a fungicide program but the lower cut is looking better to me and helping to dry out more

No need to panic, a brief dip down to 33 shouldn't damage anything and the ground likely didn't freeze. Look at the 10 day, if you seed a low 30 and have rain blow it out. If you have no rain then don't cause you may need the system. If you see 2+ days of freezing or a dip into the 20s then blow it out. If you're getting rain and it's not freezing blow it out. Why wait, unless you're doing a yard reno. Grass needs much less water when the temps average in the 50s.
