I think what Kendrick said regarding losing Nipsey and Kobe in recent years, not to mention all of the turbulence, to have a song so popular bring people together allowed for there to be a sense of healing to come from that performance. Kendrick has always been for the community and culture.

Kendrick really showing thats he is HIM. perfect performance. no playback backing track, almost no backup dancer, no sip of water. clear vocals, insane vocal inflections. even made his own adlibs. crowd control crazy. really showed out his catalogue of bangers put on so many new and niche acts. got cosigned (again) by one of the biggest OGs. united warring gangs. but also showed that even tho he was the good kid, he could always hang with them. got so much love from his city and day 1 fans his family was in the stands. pgLang was there. TDE was there. they showed up for him and he showed out for them ❤❤❤

Kendrick said that it was bigger than himself and bigger than a beef with drake.. I think people 🤔 are thinking too limited.. Junteenth is a day of freedom regardless of the exact date of freedom. Hip hop was reestablish on our terms no more record telling us what our sound, our look, are appointed a foreigner to be the face and sound of hip hop. Drake is from Canada and grew up in Canada his rap ,his experience should sound like that not putting someone on a song with you for credibility of the streets you've never been on without security if ever. I think the appeal of Kendrick has always been that he is a flawed person who is somewhat self-aware and genuinely tries to do good. His entire musical career represents this struggle. As always Justin, you come through with the crispest analysis of the whole thing. Kendrick said it himself toward the end of his set “This is what this was really all about” And it started to make me think, we thought he was just 6 chess moves ahead of Drake but maybe he was a dozen moves ahead of all of us. I relistened to Pharaoh Height 2/30 this morning so I know you’ll appreciate the quote “when people unite under one will, they become stronger than the sum of their parts” It’s beginning to seem like he used the entire “beef” as a chess move, to restate his place, and then securely cement it. Between the love Tupac and Nipsey both received at the show. It felt like that moment The West has always been waiting for. I hadn’t heard Glasses Malone say that but I’m not surprised. I’m not from the coast. I’m from 2 states east of California, but I was born in ‘91, Dr. Dre made me realize I could fall in love with music, G-Funk will always be my favorite subgenre, The West Coast has always been the best for my money. But it felt like it needed to be stated again very loudly for the entire culture of Hip Hop. And I was so happy to see Kendrick do that.
