Nynke dear, how can I thank you for this series of beautiful videos about Warsaw? From my purely subjective perspective, these are probably the most important videos you've ever made, carrying across an extremely symbolic and beautiful message. I touched upon this message in my comment to your video about your visit to the Warsaw Uprising Museum. I said in this comment that you showed Warsaw as a city of an invincible and indomitable spirit, and that those who had lost their lives in the Warsaw Uprising would be proud of their city if they could see it today. But the symbolic message you carry across goes even deeper. You may not even realize how deep it is, so let me explain. On 23rd September 1939, when the invading Germans were indiscriminately bombing Warsaw, inflicting upon it death and destruction on an unimaginable scale, the then President of Warsaw Stefan Starzyński gave a speech to the people defending the capital. Every Varsovian worth his/her salt knows, and carries in his/her heart, at least the first sentence of this speech. It is relatively short, so here it is in its entirety, first in the Polish original, followed by my translation thereof. 'Chciałem, by Warszawa była wielka. Wierzyłem, że wielką będzie. Ja i moi współpracownicy kreśliliśmy plany, robiliśmy szkice wielkiej Warszawy przyszłości. I Warszawa jest wielka. Prędzej to nastąpiło, niż przypuszczaliśmy. Nie za lat pięćdziesiąt, nie za sto, lecz dziś widzę wielką Warszawę. Gdy teraz do Was mówię, widzę ją przez okna w całej wielkości i chwale, otoczoną kłębami dymu, rozczerwienioną płomieniami ognia, wspaniałą, niezniszczalną, wielką, walczącą Warszawę. 'I wanted Warsaw to be great. I believed she would be great. I and my associates were drawing plans, we were making sketches of the great Warsaw of the future. And Warsaw is great. It happened sooner than we thought. Not in fifty years, not in a hundred, but today I see great Warsaw. When I speak to you now, I see her through the windows in all her grandeur and glory, surrounded by clouds of smoke, reddened by flames of fire, a magnificent, indestructible, great, fighting Warsaw. And although where wonderful orphanages were supposed to be - rubble lies, although where parks were supposed to be - today there are barricades thickly covered with corpses, although our libraries are burning, although hospitals are burning - not in fifty years, not in a hundred, but today, Warsaw, defending the honour of Poland, is at the peak of her greatness and glory.' /Stefan Starzyński, President of Warsaw, 23rd September 1939/ Your videos show that the dream and vision of President Starzyński and his associates, that of the first three sentences of his speech, later shared by generations of Varsovians, has actually come true. Warsaw is great. Not only with the greatness of her heroic past and the sacrifice she had to make to regain her freedom, but also, and perhaps today above all, with the greatness of everyday life. A wonderful, beautifully developing city, bursting with life and energy, remembering its past and honouring its heroes, but oriented with optimism to the future, friendly and open to the world, welcoming everyone who would like to visit it, a great place to live in. I am so proud of my city. I am thankful to the gentleman who hosted you, his input into your films cannot be overstated. And I am soooooo proud of you and thankful for everything that you do. Uściski Ninko. 🍀🥰🤗

Several generations of my family (including those from abroad) visit Warsaw quite often, and they always confirm one thing: regardless of the times, Warsaw has always had a lot of amazing energy and great people. Always feisty, witty, brave, likable and heart-stealing. Often right away, sometimes after a little closer acquaintance. And at the same time, next to the big-city claw, it has a lot of specific, elegant idyllicness, difficult to imitate. A great mix of great history, dynamism and the art of relaxation. I always have a cheerful mood in Warsaw :) And there is always something interesting, very developing, thought-provoking.

The bridge over the Vistula river for pedestrians and bikers now under construction (7:00), is planned to be completed next spring. It will certainly be a major attraction and an appealing direct connection to the central area of the Praga district, that is of special interest because it differs from left-bank Warsaw in both urban and social aspects.

About sand mountains : there are dunes in Kampinoski National Park, north of Warsaw (and you can get there by city bus). Sand, forest, dunes covered with forest and wild animals.

Some more recommendations around Warsaw, though I know it is not possible to see everything. When you were in Piaseczno you should have gone to the famous Georgian restaurant in the town centre. It is easy to google it. Some good east cuisine, I think better than Polish but it is of course a matter of taste. There are also some tragic places. When you would go to Otwock. It used to be a resort before the world war II but now after communism it is not a very beautiful town. However try to visit Zofiowka there. There are ruins in a park. It used to be before and during the the war a nursing home for Jews with psychological problems. Germans for some years tolerated it but finally killed all the patients. There are still ruins in the park.

If you had seen my city 30 years ago, you would have broken down. Now it's a really nice place to live. Money money money changes everything. It is enough to develop economically, get rich and everything becomes more beautiful. In Poland, people still need to be changed to be more open, more friendly, more tolerant and helpful to others.

30 lat temu Warszawa też była najbardziej pożądanym polskim miastem do zamieszkania. 'more friendly, more tolerant and helpful to others' no więc 30 lat temu byli bardziej otwarci, przyjaźni i pomocni. teraz są znacznie bardziej obłudni i wyrachowani

I can't believe you knew Warsaw 30 years ago. Also then, it was charming and incredibly dynamic at the same time, it stood out very well compared to the rest of Poland. Lots of people came here to live and work from other cities. There was virtually no unemployment in Warsaw, and in addition, the Warsaw Stock Exchange, a lot of new media, foreign corporations and Polish companies were established here at an unprecedented pace. And last but not least: in Warsaw, condescending or disrespectful behavior towards women (typical for Poles at that time) was always considered a sign of bad upbringing and men tried not to embarrass themselves with such behavior. And besides, 30 years ago there were all these magical areas: the Old Town, Saska Kepa, Stary Żoliborz, Stara Ochota, Stary Mokotów, Wilanów and Konstancin, amazing parks. It was easier to visit all the palaces - they were always open, and you could visit them in an intimate atmosphere. Of course, there were more traces of the war and areas in need of development, and the area around the Palace of Culture became one big marketplace. But you could feel very strong, that the history of Europe (very positive this time) was happening right in this city. At that time, the city was developing at an incredible pace (it was even dizzying): for example, only in the years 1990-1994 a lot of new buildings appeared throughout the city and new housing estates (including Kabaty), and, for example, the Tarchomin district, the former communist a housing estate full of tall blocks, lacking infrastructure for residents, changed beyond recognition. Just at that time, other large Warsaw housing estates changed too. In the years 1990-1994, new schools, shops, small shopping centers, well-maintained green areas, appeared in them. Instantly, it was possible to have a telephone in every house (a problem for new housing estates, which no one wanted to solve in communist times). In this way, Also new skyscrapers were built (mainly those near the Marriott and Electrim skyscrapers which were still built in communist times). Some of these skyscrapers built in the first half of the 90s are even being demolished and replaced with new ones. Warsaw has been fast developing for the last 34 years (not just in the last two decades). In fact, it has been developing continuously since 1945, when it was in complete ruin, and it began to change very quickly.

@@alh6255 I come from Warsaw, just like my parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. I've lived here much longer than 30 years, with a small break... I won't comment on the rest, because I can't comment on someone's faith.

Warsaw is such a safe pleasant place to visit because it has not the hordes of illegals and minorities creating havoc and snatching phones in broad daylight as in London. As a woman I have always found Warsaw helpful and friendly and safe.. What more do you want.

9:22 interesting idea for the name of the restaurant. Boleslaw Wieniawa-Dlugoszowski is a legendary figure of the interwar period known for his love of women, horses and feasts. by opponents of Sanation and in the People's Republic of Poland perceived rather as a symbol of degeneration of the Sanation elite. In 1942 he committed suicide in New York City.
