Because he just got his permit in February (we hadn’t been back to Texas in a long time!). He has to hold his permit for 6 months or until he turns 18, whichever comes first. 18 will come first.
😢Yes, missed my kids terribly when they left...still miss them and their positive, buzzing energy! We called them our "boomerang babies" as each one of them returned home for a stint - until they got married. Now we enjoy visits (not enough) and two precious grandsons. 😊
My son didn’t get his license till he was 19. He was welcome to do so earlier but he just said, ‘Nah, my friends all like you and you enjoy all the stuff we enjoy.’ He turned out to be a really excellent driver, but never passed on the opportunity to let someone else do the driving. Kids!
With Keith's sense of humor, I thought he was going to say, we've replaced all the equipment, now the only thing old on the boat is us! LOL! 🤣😂🤣 I would never say that though. Love u guys!!!
Bless guys, I know you’re both hurting, we are feeling it too for you both, wrapped for the kids tho that want to create their own bow wave. You’re amazing friends/mentors and parents , they are spreading their wings but we are all hearing ya ❤️🙏👍
Yayyy!,back out on the water! Yea, I do miss seeing Jack and Kate as well but am glad they’re getting settled in Tonga. Had a beautiful friend who was from Tonga. Wishing them well. I’m so thankful that y’all have Finn for a time yet and that Luke and Emily are with you guys. Love the new additions to your cat!
Hi guys my name is Martin and I have been following you since Covid , I was never able to give a like or comment due to limited internet access and wi-fi. I am able to verify that without your contribution to my sanity I would be a mess today. Thank you for every video you have made and posted, it is what made things bearable, I am forever grateful to you, thank you 🙏
Renee and Keith, embrace the change. Knowing you kids are chasing their dreams should bring happiness to your hearts. There will be a period of adjustment but stay focused on living your best life every day. You will enjoy yourselves with new crew and guests and cherish the memories you have made. Keith on the other hand…. He’s gonna be busy busy busy with out the boys there helping out on deck.
As a homeschool mom, I'm very thankful I got to spend that extra time with my children because oh my goodness, time flies! My heart is heavy with you Renee. I'll never forget when my daughter moved from Texas to Alaska, just before the pandemic! Lots of prayers back then! ❤
Keith, I don't believe you... The grief of missing your adult children is still in your eyes 🫂... Not easy being a parent when the kids fly the nest .... Theyll probably be missing you both just as much !
Glad to see you back underway! We'll miss Jack and Kate being with you but I feel you've done a marvelous job setting them up for their own life cruising by guiding them through diving and captaining licenses. Great job! Most kids don't have a clue what they really want to do when they get to college age. Jack and Kate do and are taking the necessary steps.
I had bunch of these Mercuries....those fuel delivery pumps die all the time. They are at the back of the engine where fuel line enters. It has two small membranes inside, and if you use ethanol fuel, those membranes fail like once or twice a year...strongly recommend to keep a spare around :)
Hi Renee, I miss your kids too! What a great family you have, truly! Thanks for allowing us into your lives, it's a joy to watch and be a part of through cyberspace! xo
I have been a follower for about 3 years now! It started because I was researching live aboard sail boats and got hooked. I’ve introduced many friends who were thinking about the same thing to your channel! If you guys ever need volunteers for a passage my girlfriend and I would be grateful to get some hands on experience! Love watching your family grow! Keep up the great work!
Hello Zatara. I love your channel, your family. I have followed you since the beginning. My wife died 6 months ago at work from a heart attack. She was only 64, we had so many plans, inspired by channels like Zatara. The lesson is, you cannot plan your life in later age. Money was not an issue, we were looking forward to many years and retirement. The lesson from you, is don't wait, just do it. The joy you have given me, and sharing your wonderful children, is beyond words. You are good people and have raised great children. Thank you for sharing. Much affection From Toronto
I’m so sorry for your great loss Gunther. I too lost my beloved bride after thirty years of marriage when she was just forty nine years of age. Fortunately her family & us owned numerous boats living in the San Juan Islands & traveled extensively throughout the world. She only had one bucket list item to accomplish, since we thought she had plenty of time. Don’t put off the things you’ve always wanted to do because time on this earth is so short, but thankfully Heaven is forever and eternity!!!
Hubby/I r RV’ers for 35 years now. This past year has shown us to hold plans with open hands. Hubby quadruple bypass and I broke ankle with debilitating after effects. So do follow dreams when u can. We will try our first trip since 1 year ago. God Bless all … 🇨🇦 ❤
When my two kids went off to college in another state it was really sad. I missed their activity, noise, interactions and especially cooking their meals. Took me a while to adjust my grocery store purchases.
Welcome to South Florida. As an almost native living here since 1963, this is typical of South Florida. Growing up we could set the clock by the afternoon storms. We used to have a Meteorologist that used to call these the Gator showers. Enjoy your sails and stay safe.
I really enjoy the flashbacks. I have been here since the beginning.. much love and thank you for your sharing all these years your family and adventures with us.
What an epic sea & family saga you guys are living! Maybe at some point creating a beautiful book, a classy coffee table treasure... filled with incredible highlights & photography of your world travels... the family, local people, places & things you've encountered...etc... to incapsulate in hard copy form 🌊'Epic Zatara' 🌊😎
What a great video. Life changes for sure. Our kids are grown now, and our Grand kids are getting to be late teens. We had one empty nest, and now the second as the grand kids grow up. Odd, to not have them over making noise. But at the same time, my wife and I are doing more adventures than we have in years. It is great to see you all out on this grand adventure called life. Great video... and music.
Must feel good to get cruising again! The marina You were stuck at was very close to where we stayed for the winter in Dania on our boat cruising goodness, nearly 50 years ago! Wishing calm seas and a steady breeze!
Yeah... we felt the missing of Jack n Kate on the boat too, but their adventures are really going to be cool !!! Thx for having us hang out with ya, never get enough of it. 🌵🌵💀💀👍👍🌵🌵 We went prospecting last week and fun to catch up on people we enjoy... found a 3.7-gram nugget... biggest find ever.
Instead of wearing a GoPro for those shots maybe try to get a bendy tripod you can quickly attach to the bow to get the wide angle shots of anchoring and mooring etc. just a thought!
Glad that yu finally got everything done in Florida. Seemed like forever I am sure. Looking forward to your new adventures. The kids all have new adventures but so do you and Keith. I watch all of the channels. It will be fun to see Finn and his new life. You can always advertise for a new "Med crew". lol
Hello you guys are a amazing family. I have started following and watching the last few months I can hear in you voice and see in your eyes the void that is overcoming you with the kids leaving. However I decided to start watching all of your videos from the beginning and just watched the first video and I can tell you your kids have grown into some incredible young adults and Iam sure the the experience that they have had from the decision 7yrs ago was a big reason
Hi Keith, My name is Diego Carbonell, and I have been following you and your family for a long time, I live here in the Dominican Republic even though I am from Venezuela, I would love to meet you all I know that you are stranded in Ocean World Marine, if you need anything fron Santo Domingo I would be glad to take it to you in Puerto Plata.
Ok, it has taken a minute, but I am all caught up. I started watching from Episode 1 on April 22, 2024. What an incredible journey the Z Crew has embarked on and continues to cut through the waters of the world’s oceans. I’m looking forward to the next installment of Sailing Zatara. Great job setting the hook on all of us.
I feel your pain of being empty nesters . Thank god you still have You & Keith to continue on your journey in life where ever or whatever you choose to do . Unfortunately I didn’t get that opportunity my husband passed at 58 years young . But as I’m sure you know life must go on & as parents you do the best you can . I’m very excited to see Jack , Kate & fin’s adventures. And looking forward to the glimpse into all of your lives . Thanks as always for sharing your life .
I love watching this sort of content ! My family and I are getting ready to sell our house to go live on a sailboat and we hope to leave around 2025/2026!
I learn so many things about olding with your videos. During a lot of time I felt digital channels were not for people older than 35, but after watching the whole dynamic here I believe that the important thing is the content, genuine content. Congratulations and on my opinion enjoy the time of the empty nest, it also comes with time for reading, feeling, reconecting with yourself and preparing for grand parenting that is the price haven´t killed the kids where they were teens, jajaja
Great video! I am sure it feels great to be out of the marina after 2 months and the turmoil of all the work you had done. It is great that Luke and his girlfriend could join you on this trip, both for the help and importantly company. The scenery has been great with the exception of the squalls and waterspout. I am familiar with waterspouts having grown up on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario, they would come ashore but fizzled out pretty quickly. I hope the rest of the trip goes smoothly! As always, looking forward to your next video!
Awe, pig island stole my heart, they’re so cute and incredibly intelligent (we had a pot belly for over 10 years, he was an inside pet and was loved so much by our subdivision friends and community, we sadly lost him to an aggressive form of swine cancer and are still heartbroken, all these years later).
It's good that your kids are leaving. I know you'll miss them but they are getting out in the world and making their own way. This is a whole lot better than having them live you you the rest of their lives. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Second time in the last day ice watched someone change a propeller under water. Thank goodness for people that can get it done because I wouldn't be able to lol .
You are a modern sophisticated Family.... rocking all of us with your ability to cope with almost anything.... we miss Kate and Bro... hope they do OK and come back unharmed.... AMEN +
Im sure everyone has said how i feel for you both with better words than i could say but just know we are here for guys. Keith it seems we i can hear those motors humming or is that prop noise? I hope any problems you have you will share with us. You are my hero for so many reasons keep it up. Your fellow Texan and fan Cooper
it looks like in a feww years you will end up and Zatara flotilia with every kid sailing his own vessel. we need much more people like you in this world to make it better place hope to mert all of you one day on yhe water. meanwhile i only sail in med
Hi Renee, you and Keith have done a wonderful job giving them a good foundation in life. education, culture. I feel your separation from your kids, you have each other, you have a lot of friends on us, now we are family. Smile, chin up and hug for both.
Our kids are now in their 40’s and late 30’s. I never get used to them being gone. Cry often, pray a lot and am blessed they all are doing well. Gets harder as we get older. It’s there turn now. 🙏❤️
G'day Renee and Keith, I reckon why not let Luke and Emily stay aboard Zatara as crew members, when Finn finally leaves the nest? Assuming Luke & Emily want to stay, I don't think you can find two better people to help crew Zatara ~ at least until Jack and Kate are finished in Tonga? Cheers from Western Australia 🇦🇺.
Thanks Renee...lovely relaxing video. I end up all over the world watching connections to Zatara. Got jayden in Aussie. Glory in Hawaii, Luke but now back with you guys again. The kids in Tonga that will be a great watch and eventually Finn in his van......has become super diversified and an all round good watching....love you all, Naughty Nana from Aussie land. Xx❤
I would have loved to see you sea trail for at least a few days on the coast before heading out. But as Capt Ron said, "If It's Gonna Happen, It's Gonna Happen Out There"
Its a change for sure! But all you guys are fun to be part of! I know you got to narrate and edit to be interesting and you do a great job at that! I live in Arizona and it's hot as hell. It's fun living vicariously through you guys. You're not fake! And almost feels like im there! Lol Happy all the kids spreading there wings! Lets face it they'll be back!! If my parents were into all that i would be on the bow right now😂anyway! Thanks
Rene your camera work is second to none. Beautiful cinematography. Try bringing crew aboard that need experience such as the blue water crew that Keith teaches. Change of age might be good.
I’m so glad that Luke and Emily are on board to ease the adjustment of Jack and Kate being gone. However the sadness still remains. It takes time. We too feel the emptiness. I’m excited to see what the future will bring to the two of you. Luke and Emily is a great start!💕😢🥰🙏🏻
Dang! We just crossed back from The Bahamas a day ago! Heading north up the Florida coast right now. Would have loved to have seen you all. Have a blessed time!
