When they pick up your things like sheetrock and the rocks and the extra wood make sure you get a receipt for reimbursement... Because you've already paid for it now they're picking it up bringing it to somebody else's house to use that's how contractors work

Exactly, as You'll need it in the guest cottages for those things you've already done in the main house... Work Smart, Unless Your able to afford wasting materials which by what I've been Seeing, your frugal not wasteful...Thank God for the Break but hopefully Someone is watching Over the Property...for thieves look for opportunities to enrich themselves at your Expense...Sometimes it's BeTTeR Not to Let Public know Everything as It keeps Your Property Safer...Sorry to Be the Alarmist but Used to be innocent but LiFe taught Me to Be Self Protective of My Hard Work... One of my favourite tools I own is for cabinet making, it’s from Lee Valley Tools (in Canada) called Veritas 32 Cabinetmaking System (it’s a fancy jig). My parents gave me theirs that they bought 20+ years ago and I use it a couple of times a year. There has to be comparable type jigs out there, but it helps you get all even holes for the adjustable shelves inside cabinets, dowels for connecting the frame more solidly…. It’s just amazing. Lol. Also in your estate sale travels if you ever come across Veritas or Lee Nelson hand tools like chisels, hand planes, etc, snap them up. I have been dreaming for 16 years that one day I will own a set of Lee Nelson chisels.

I just want to say I adore you. I have severe asthma & I can't get out of the house a lot of the time. My little boy brought home Covid in January & my health took a nose dive. You always took my mind off of how harsh things are for me. I've been so invested in this house reno & I can't wait for all the final styling projects. i am SO excited for the kitchen cabinets! my darling husband and i want to make a kitchen for my mother in law (i love her so much) - HER KITCHEN IS 60 FRIGGIN YEARS OLD!!! - and we have no real idea how to go at building a kitchen! so we're looking forward to you trying your hand at it! (for reference, a new kitchen like she wants here in switzerland could easily cost 50kplus, even if it is a small kitchen of 139 square feet!)

My husband is purchasing wood to make ours this month. We think we'll be paying $50-$75 a cabinet which is going to be about an eighth of the cost of the crummy ones we can buy in the stores near us (assuming all goes to plan). I hope she shares her process, too. Best of luck to you and your family!

@Sarah Heri, check out Ana White. Found her through drawers (a kitchen needs practically only drawers imho 😁) and if you search her videos she does a whole kitchen build tutorial and all separate parts. Have fun with your kitchen build and just get going. Learning by doing is king! 🍀

I have really loved yours and Romeos journey with your house it has and still is so inspirational and inspires me to want to do a project myself even though I turn 60 this year, my home no matter what that has been is always for most on my mind, I have never really had that stability, owning my own home is my greatest wish and to create a gorgeous garden to go around that home I feel that you have given me the hope that dream is still alive, your mum is your biggest fan and your greatest friend, I love you all just wanted to let you know that you are needed in this world.

I’m disabled but get to do “homework” vicariously through you 🥰 Also- try using Minwax wood refinisher on the wood before sanding it all. Especially the areas that are difficult to sand. I’ve used it on a detailed cabinet and it’s amazing!

We are in the final stages of our house build. We have seen all the same delays as you with materials and labor...we had broken cabinet units show up, doors had to be reordered due to damage and finally things are rounding to the end. I feel your excitement when things get done and workers show up! I'm happy for your progress!

I know you had you heart set on Christmas, but think the timing of “moving in” was perfect. You get to come back from Europe and start setting up shop. There’s not a time I miss home more than being away from it for so long. What a wonderful time to start putting things in place and see some life come into those “good bones”.
