I have a 2022 X5m and I saw the new 5 series parked side by side to my car and literally the 5 series is longer than my x5m and almost as wide, so I am not surprised it weighs the same lol
@@booyoohouseBMW really screwed this Gen 5-series for the sake of their EV drivetrain. Just like there is no longer a short wheelbase version of the 7-series to accommodate for the space the batteries in the i7 need. They made the wheelbase of the 5series extra long to fit the batteries in there, this gen 5 series has almost the same wheelbase as the last gen short wheelbase 7 series. So yea its heavy af and long.
I hate new 5 series with so much passion. Front end look's like fwd, back line of the trunk is terrible and lamps are from Camry. Gosh I don't wanna be around cars anymore.
I went through this when they revealed the G80-82 M3/M4, lost all faith in BMW designs, sure they have the grunt, but I'm going Porsche instead of getting a new M car.
@@Kopsnkops it's not a trend, these cars are genuinely designed bad for people with limited taste. The m2 was such an ugly boat of a car with tonka toy styling, this was bound to follow, real shame. 😢👎
The Hofmeister-Knick is still a design feature with present models, only that it’s being slightly altered here and there, sometimes with a few more edges, blacked out …
I don't care how fast this M5 will be. Nobody should care about how fast this M5 will be, because the slowest EV will crucify it in the real world The whole industry went the complete wrong direction, ICE cars should be focused on the driving experience, and that's something that you can't get with a car as heavy as some old tractors
@@istvanlorinczi2817You better start caring about how fast this is because it’s significant slower than the last gen M5. A completely downgrade is what I will call this new M5
@@mordredma That's more of a reason to not care about it's performance, because it'll only get compared to everything else. These are supposed to be sports cars (or by now only sporty trim levels), not trading cards, where the bigger numbers are the only thing that matters
@@istvanlorinczi2817so a fiat 500e would "crucify it in the real world"? You and other people who only care about numbers on a spreadsheet are corny as hell
@@ikhoonyejelem2967 the same Fiat 500E that sold less then 200k units, against Tesla's over 2 million Model 3s... Which will crucify it in the real world, because you will not replicate BMW's claimed numbers in the real world, on normal roads Plus I literally said the numbers don't matter overall BECAUSE it's performance numbers will not stack up to the next generation model, and guess what, people are still talking about how good E30s drive, 3 decades later....
I don't know what this Guy is talking about? This M5 is ugly, 500kgs too heavy, less powerful V8 than before, a rediculous illuminated Kidney Grill while 2/3 of the Kidney Grille is closed! Why? What's wrong with BMW? Just NO! I'll take the F90 M5! Prices will go crazy anyway! (after the Debut of this Monster...)
That's how I felt with Carwow and other channels when they were glazing this car it almost feels like they are getting paid by Bmw themselves, and I know deep down Mat does not like it
Nobody wants an M5 as a Plug In....the weight is outrageous. I mean as soon as you have a passenger, you have the same weight as driving a god damn Rolls Royce Phantom alone...in an M5!!!! But I dont even think it looks bad, also wouldve expected worse, but fully agree on the "height" part, it has the height of a 7 series or something in the front. Maybe putting the car down a bit and get the tires further out will already help with that feel, we will see But I think we can probably now say for sure that the M5 peaked with the F90 2021. It will only go downhill from now on
@@JackV-tw8bw that's a fair point and a real issue for a sports sedan but for a wagon weight is the expectation. If we get a truly great sport wagon with a V8 in 2024 offered in the US I will call that a win.
@@yaarrioyeah but sporty wagons don't gain the weight of a large bovine over their sedan counterparts usually. This car architecture is just too heavy to begin with.
Nah, Bangle's E60 is on par with the new generation of ugliness, never grew on me. All other Bangle's designs still look good today, especially the coupes.
Still FUGLY. Garbage. Gross. Bembli, you are correct, the e39 was the best designed saloon they ever made. I owed two different versions- a 528i and 528iT.
When you approach an M5 is like a matured car but you open the door only to find out you're in your son's room with all this annoying light shows. This car is supposed to be used my matured individuals it is not a playful car like the M3 and immature M2 so we stick to the old stuff.
BMW didn't learn from their lesson of the XM, they went plug-in hybrid and made and absolute brute of a car that somehow weighs about the same as a **G63** **SUV**
@@richardlabejaevery damn generation is the same comments: “Previous was peak” “BMW is lost” And the list keeps going on, and on…so much hypocrisy…they said the same for the E60 M5
What BMW should've done with the new M5 is do something similar to what Chevy did with the Corvette E-Ray, where it's simply a mild hybrid system rather than a plug-in hybrid and the electric motors recharge themselves. In my humble opinion, the F90 M5, which came out in 2018 is the most beautiful out of all the M5 generations, specifically the facelift which came out in 2021 and we got the beast that is the M5 CS.
The comments on the weight of the car … we get it. This thing is ridiculously heavy. Everyone needs to just wait on the driving impressions. It’s actually a very good looking car (especially for BMW recent styling faux pas). If you want a primary track car then this isn’t for you. If you want a 4 door performance car that can be your everyday commuter then this might be in play.
I hate the fake staggered wheels man... If you wanna make them staggered make the whole wheel staggered. Make the tire bigger in the back as well. Not just the rim and have the tire side wall smaller.
I think that we’ve been spoiled with BMW designs in the past. I think this car will look better in person and can maybe grow on us like the M3/M4 eventually did, but who knows
I feel like the design would be perfect modern if they kept them more of a boxy rear fenders like the M2. It kind of harks back to the E30 M3 and not done that weird diaper thing down the middle of the rear diffuser. If you look at the original rendering it was a solid across and if they kept that it would be a perfect 10/10 modern BMW IMO
the rear end is meh. but that front is soo bad simply because this 5 series is horrible. Headlights and grill look like a chinese knock off. The prev. gen was among the best looking sedans in my opinion. Shame..
The hybrid aspect is because the legislations. There are some cities where soon you will not be allowed to drive a car that is not atleast a hybrid. And you cannot make a high end super saloon without have it be allowed to drive through towns
Im not too worried about the rear being too high. I thought the same about the new 7. The ass looked too tall in pictures. Then I saw one IRL and it just looked normal.
- doesn't look as good as before - previous engine is 635hp, this is 585hp. - It is 500kg-600kg more than before for only 100hp extra - power to weight ratio is worse than previous gen - battery focus was range, not power..hence why its so big and heavy. - ugly grille BMW have officially gone r***ed
A Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe (the rare hardtop one) weighs only 400 lbs more than the New M5…… A 2013 Escalade weighs LESS than the new M5. Crazy how heavy new cars have gotten.
I do wonder if the initial reviews have missed the main point of this new M5. Reviewers are not focussing on its super low 50g/KM emissions and the tax breaks this enables, bringing the car firmly into consideration by company car drivers. It is also priced cheaply against high end rivals (think Panamera, new Bentley). When you take account of these two points, the new car keeps a ICEV8 based M5 alive as opposed to a fully electric model. I suspect in time the strategic motivation of BMW M Division will be recognised and the car will be successful. I have owned several M5s and RS6 as my daily-driver in the past. I don't want an electric car and I don't want to spend £150k to £220k on a Panamera or Bentley. I also want a V8, and I like the coherent and better proportioned styling of this new M5 (something I cannot say for most BMW's since Chris Bangle initiated his surface-flaming evolution). I have also had many 911 Turbos/Turbo S and I see that Porsche have done a similar exercise with their latest 911 to the extent the ICE has been maintained and the electric motor/hybridisation is largely there to reduce emissions (although I see how super clever electric motor tech is deployed to drive the turbo). All food for thought. Replies from fellow petrol heads would be appreciated.
The F90 LCI is a beautiful, well crafted design...it's handsome, executive, aggressive and creates emotion...not sure on the design direction here...not a fan of the lit grill, the drl's and the huge m5 logo on the hofmeister kink is not necessary...the rear tail lights look like an amg gt 63 coupe...why? It's not the ///M5 I was anticipating...the interior has some nice lighting and branding elements on the headrest etc...but what's wrong with having a few tactile buttons for temperature control etc.? New HUD looks nicer...an attractive car but maybe the LCI will fix a number of things..hope the M division can fix the m3 with a more proportional grill and some more exciting tail lights and body lines. 🙏
Quoting Colin Chapman; '-Add Lightness ', please! And go back to basics when it comes to Instrument clusters. I'd gladly pay a Premium for a proper ol' analogue panel...
Idk why but new BMW models started looking like KIA... not that Kia cars are bad, quite the contrary, but its not something you expect from a car company like BMW who has huge legacy and history... I could be wrong because same thing was said about Bangle era and now people love those cars and they aged like wine, but idk...
To everyone who says the grille looks terrible, do keep in mind it could have been worse. A LOT WORSE. It could have been the M4 or the iX Edit: seriously; by modern BMW standards, this is relatively tame
why does BMW not know how to make the lines work from the rear door to the rear quarter panel/fender on their M models?? It's gross. Just look at how the light reflects off that? It screams cheap. If you're going to flare the rear fenders that much then make the rear doors lead into it correctly. Also gross weight but I'm sure it'll perform great. and the interior looks more like a Hyundai N product (which is great in that 30-60k range... not so much in the 120k+ range)
Looks like a cheap car. Maybe the designer team is not mature enough in making decisions....😢 The kidney looks like Skoda😅. The legendary BMW gone. All they left are the strong historical branding background and some performance technology.
Honestly, i gave it an honest shot when i saw it for the first time, i was willing to read everything and see what it had to offer. And i just get it out of my head about how it looks... it's so ugly imo, the interior is horrible with those screens. And the weight... sure M5 cars have never been known as to be superlight, but this is just so stupid. I dont even care if they manage to mask it, you'll always feel weight to an extent, and the fact that this car is MASSIVE. Given i actually like the new M3 and M4 apart from the front, i was kind of hopeful for this M5. But honestly, i dont think i've ever been this dissapointed by a car before
The greenhouse is a deadringer for the Toyota Corolla. The lack of the Hoffmeister kink and the slimmed down C-pillar has lost that BMW look and makes it look cheap. Ironically the model name is stamped on the massive plastic window trim so we know what it is. Lose this unnecessary plastic trim so the C-pillar is more defined and has more substance. It’s disappointing that it now could be easily confused with the 3-series, but with lots of awkward disjointed details.
How are these designs successful? They are somehow selling more than Benz and Audi. They all look bad. (Except the 3 series. The non-M 3 series. This one still looks good somehow)
The G90 M5 is the first M5 in history to be slower than it's predecessor. If this new M5 lost about 1,000 lbs or was the same weight as the F90 M5 CS, it would be the greatest M5 of all time...
If I had to choose between that “fat” thing and the F90 I’d take the F90 for granted. The new one looks like some fake GTA car where they don’t have licenses for the real cars. Big L for BMW in my opinion.
Disregarding the technical specs of this car, mainly its weight problem, it actually doesn't look bad. I do wish they kept the chunky taillights though.
Surely BMW is trying to lure SUV owners into buying this porker with its inexcusable weight gain. Weight aside it's pretty hideous and will be a nightmare to own with all the [additional] tech nonsense and hybridization.
The people who like the way this car looks 😂😂😂 dorky small high up headlights looks like the fwd 2 series grand coupe , giant plastic grill with a huge square in the middle , looks like a camry from the back with a gawdy body kit... fail
I hate the rear bumper where the reflector is situated. Looks like a huge piece was sliced off behind the rear wheel. It is too angular and doesn't flow well at all. The increase in the height and weight of the vehicle is not a good thing given the market niche it is targeting. Huge batteries are a huge problem both for the added weight and finding the space inside the chassis to situate them. The rear fender beginning aft of the doors must be a cost-saving feature. BMW can then use the same doors on all of their 5-series models. Yes, it looks kind of abrupt but not as bad as that reflector cut-out. The dash is revolting but I'm not surprised they went with a full digital layout. Of the three versions BMW was considering I much preferred the top one. The front and back look well integrated and its character comes out better. The production version is a mixed bag. I prefer the competition.
This reviewer lost me when he started talking about possible location of radar system, I actually think BMW did well locating it there where it's at least symmetrical and doesn't look out of place or an after- thought.
I initially didn’t like the look on this M5 when it was first introduced during the week, but within days it’s starting to grow on me 😂. I really think most people would grow into it too. I heard BMW have literally cheated physics with this added weight
These cars are getting bigger yet the rear leg room is absolutely sub par. It doesn’t make any sense. I miss the days when you got in a car and the manufacturer had setup the car in one configuration. Now days you have so many modes, so much complexity. Bloated mess.
I can not agree. I think its not a good looking car . I think BMW did make a mistake with the whole car. Even heard the people testdrive it say it does not feel like the old m5 car (in a negative way) BMW used to have the best designers, but every new car they release just get worse and worse both exterior and interior.
