In 2022 Lucy had cancer, in 2023 Insey, the horse tried to go blind. Will 2024 be the year they can finally have a season and actually make some progress? That journey starts today at Oxstalls doing the BE100.
Finally after 9 months, both the horse and rider are healthy and they make their way to the re-arranged British Eventing Oxstalls date.
Hopefully you will enjoy this vlog - please give feedback to help us understand what you want to see. We are just normal people who work full time and event for fun.

Great to see eventing starting up again. Those were very wise words at the end. It's good to hear someone saying they ride because they love it, and not to over extend the horse. You and Insey have been through a lot in the past little while. Life events certainly make you think about ambitions, goals etc. Well done.

I really loved your speach at the end! Yes, that is what it should be all about..... the relationship with the horse and keeping them healthy and happy!!! ❤❤ As long as they are, there's nothing wrong with beeing competitive and reach for goals!!! I think healthy horses love that too!!! ❤❤ Seen several youtubers cope with the ground at this show and you did a great job!!! ❤❤❤

I always watch the dressage but definitely prefer some commentary. It helps to get a feel for the beginning of the competition. Edited to add that I am with you as regards aiming for 2* and not higher. A 2*L is my ultimate goal. So glad that you are in the position of being fit and healthy with a fit and healthy horse.

I just think for modern intermediate it’s very hard for an amateur to come out and be very good and not make mistakes. Everytime you make mistakes at that level you put the horse at serious risk, plus the fitness and training which needs to go in is increased wear and tear. I would rather have the horse around fit and happy for longer than break the horse for my ambition.

I like watching dressage as long as there is some type of commentary.

Great run!! Yes, we watch the dressage, deffo better-having commentary so we know how you do in regards to movements. I'm dying to get out eventing, I am definitely with you it's not always about the scoreboard for me it's having something to aim for, something to see how your training and bond can do when out there! Coming back with your horse trying it's best for you with your training paying off is so much more than winning! My new horse and I will hopefully get out and about soon! :D

Good luck when you do get up, it’s so important to enjoy it and we often forget putting ourselves under pressure to do well.

It was a horse that Inseys owner bred and had for 9 years so very involved in her life. I was involved with her since she was 4 and produced her until she was 9.

And the cross country. Well she made absolutely nothing of it. In fact, she totally looked as though she was in a class well well below her smarts (thought that in showjumping too). What a magical day for you both. After everything you have both been through at last you can both go out and do what you clearly both love and what you are both obviously really great at. Long may it continue and thank you for taking me with you. Onwards ……

Hiya, having watched other videos on this ground where everyone made sane comments I am amazed judges never made reference at all to the going. Just watched your dressage. Loved the video angle and the overlay commenting. I honestly think you are being hard on yourself in places. Overall Incy looked great and I do think the more you “turn out and show up” the performances will improve. You’re clearly a perfectionist but Incy had a good score on the day. Good job.

Thanks - I guess judges have to judge on what they see and those who went earlier in the section would have had an advantage. It’s one of those things about competing on grass. Sometimes early is disadvantaged like when grass is dewy and a bit firm so can be slippery even with studs and sometimes it can get a bit chewed up. I am hugely grateful to the organisers for running and chose that event as ground would be as good as it could be in the circumstances.

Oh I absolutely agree. I don’t think the organisers could have done more at all. Just almost amazing the event went ahead.

Oh my word. Just listened to the end of your vlog. I be applaud your words and views regarding some aspects of our horse world. I would deffo be right behind you in your reasoning and what you want to excel at. It leaves you so much room to love your horses and bond with your horses outside the ridden doesn’t it. Good for you. Tragic news about the stunning grey, makes what you gave even more prescious doesn’t it. Keep going. You’re doing a grand job. And thank you again. Ps. Are you attending Badminton xcountry day?

Thanks. I think you can balance being ambitious and still being pro horse ethically. I still love top level eventing but I think they are very special horses with very good riders but sometimes I am a bit 50/50 about it and the risk.

Weirdly she isn’t strong, all her energy is like a shaken bottle of coke. It’s kind of wonderful to ride as taking you and so athletic and a bit frustrating as we struggle down distances and I don’t want to shut her down.

@@theeventingjourney232 What a lovely description. But honestly. Her outline is sublime and you truly compliment her. I thought she looked as though she loved her day out. I honestly don’t perceive any signs at all of any stress at any time but loads of barely controlled sass and EXUBERANCE. Beautiful to watch. Please feel really happy with where you are both at. BUT she ain’t a 100 girl. SO…. much more ❤️
