Awlrite, finally an absolute legend who not only knows these engines, but engineers a perfect testbench to let there be the ultimate carb/intake showdown! 1. This man needs more subscribers. 2. I believe it is time to test Adam's intake, paired with a flat slide throttle Mikuni TM38 with jets and shims. I'm very curious what the results would be. 🤔 3. This man needs more subscribers!!! Awlrite!

Thanks man !!! Yep, with the test rig available, it will be easy to put different carbs onto the different manifolds to see which ones work the best 👍. I’ve been finishing up my long standing bucket list item of finally making a kick start for a Virago so haven’t had much time to play with the test rig. Fortunately, the kick start is complete (and worked really well lol) so I can now go back to playing with the test rig again periodically. Thanks again and all the best ! Steve

Thanks man ! Yep, this has been an interesting study so far on these single carb intakes for sure…hopefully I can get a couple more different designs to add to the comparisons.

This is the best comparison I've seen in this regard

Thanks man 👍. It was interesting to see how the different designs changed how the cylinders balanced on the AFR for sure. Thanks again and all the best ! Steve

Thanks man ! Yep, it’s a fun setup to play with for sure and easy to swap things out on it since the bike frame isn’t in the way with it mounted in the motor stand. When I first built it and fired it up, I was amazed at how much the motor vibrated my 6” thick concrete garage floor lol. Thanks again and all the best ! Steve

Got a question off topic. Is cylinder #1 in the rear and cylinder 2 in the front by front tire on a 95 Yamaha Virago 535? Thanks I'm getting different answers..

You're a brain on this stuff so I figured I'd ask

Hey man ! I do have an abandoned 535 that I got last year to do a restore on, but I haven’t really gotten into taking the motor apart yet to check things out. I have looked at the timing though and it times the same as the 750’s in that the rear cylinder is timed to the “T” on the flywheel for the TDC firing stroke so that should mean that the rear would be considered the #1 cylinder. I didn’t look to see, but if the “F” mark on the flywheel is right beside the “T”, then it would be considered the first cylinder for sure as that would be the one used to verify the spark timing is correct. Not 100% sure though as I haven’t had it apart to look for a designation stamped in the head or a number on the cam, but since Yamaha stayed pretty consistent with things over the years, I’d say that’s a safe bet.

@@karlh4313 Yes, 535 is the same in that regard. #1 is rear, #2 is front.

Thanks man and hope the videos help some long the way 👍. I’m still trying to find time myself to restore a 535 I picked up last year…hopefully this fall I can get going in it as well. Thanks again and all the best ! Steve

Dude, why you trying to make things complicated and confusing people? This carb wont work ever the way it's should be. Stop spreading CRAP.

Hello, not sure what you found wrong with the setup and testing, but typically AFR and manifold vacuum gages are relatively accurate in showing differences in how a cylinder is running…even more so as the setup was the same for each of the manifold options, but the gages showed different results. I don’t make or sell single carb manifolds…I just tested them, but seems from your profile (and a little search out on eBay) that you do. If you believe that your design is truly better, you are welcome to send me one and I’ll put it on the test rig to see how it balances the next time I bring the rig out from storage…better yet, maybe you should build a test rig of your own and show some data…or provide some data to folks on your sellers page on how your manifolds did if you have already tested them. I’m not trying to be rude or confrontational, but commenting that someone is spreading false information without being able to substantiate the claim is not benefiting anyone. All the best, Steve
