A cargo net could secure loose items. Plus it could be used as a work bench. And the lounge idea is great too.

I think some netting across the frunk will stop things falling out. Or a half lip. Not an issue for accessory companies to make and provide.

IMO the open face is fine. The missing element seems to be power outlets! That open-faced frunk is perfect for heavier tool boxes, ice chests, or golf clubs. Sure…without a lip, you can’t pour in dozens of loose softballs or something, but such uncontained loose items that would easily tumble out is not a common use case. I just HOPE it has a power outlet in there we haven’t seen yet!
@mrallelectriccarlunacy

Lol that’s what the eco flow is for looks like. Sure would be cool to pull from the truck pack though.
@Petemitchell0341
@Petemitchell0341 11 месяцев назад
Why would you use the frunk for ice chests and golf clubs when you have a giant bed that is enclosed? That’s the point of a truck. The downside of a truck is trying to carry smaller items you don’t want rolling around the bed. That’s where the frunk comes in, to supplement the huge bed for the smaller items. But now the smaller items will fall out as soon as you open the frunk. I agree with Electric Viking
@737smartin
@737smartin 11 месяцев назад
@@Petemitchell0341"Why…?" Because the frontless frunk is easier to lift into than the bed AND your stuff won’t go sliding out of reach in a frunk like it will in the a bed. Some might not realize that as you drive, braking action tends to be much more aggressive than accelerating, so anything in your bed that can slide (tool boxes, parts, golf clubs, …) ends up next to the cab. Then you have to open the gate and climb in to retrieve it.
@737smartin

@@mrallelectriccarlunacy My first moment seeing that frunk with the battery bank picture, I thought the outlets were part of the truck. Then…😞
@Petemitchell0341

@737smartin Can’t agree more regarding stuff sliding around everywhere. I guess everyone has their own personal needs. My ice chest isn’t constantly being taken in and out bc it’s large and heavy and I use it occasionally. Groceries, kids sports stuff, backpacks, takeout, groceries are a daily occurrence. These items aren’t very difficult to lift up over a lip, but they sure will roll or fall out when you open the frunk.
@chrisofnottingham
@chrisofnottingham 11 месяцев назад
Having loaded a lot of heavy gear into cars and vans, I far prefer having no lip. You lift the gear as high as the bed and then just slide it in. For loose light objects, yes they might roll out or whatever, so put them in a box.

This is why I believe there is no lip also, a front party bench with a sunshade. I hope there are USB and power outlets in the front!
@Petemitchell0341
@Petemitchell0341 11 месяцев назад
You literally have a tailgate if you want to “tailgate”. You ever try putting your groceries in the back of your truck, wanna know what happens if you need to accelerate or brake hard? Stuff is rollin all over the place. Same with kids sports gear/balls, or take-out. It’s nice having an area that’s closed off and doesn’t have gear falling out as soon as you open the door like a standard SUV tailgate. That’s why people love the Land Cruiser and Range Rover tailgates. When you open the back, stuff doesn’t come tumbling out. Especially if you’re on a hill or slope in a driveway. A closed off frunk would solve this issue IMO

Have a conversation about how much electronics, wiring, safety systems, structure etc. have to be packaged under the skin of the vehicle. The other thing to point out is how short the front overhang is compared to any vehicle while still maintaining crash worthiness along with cast structures under the skin. This is truly next generation automotive design and engineering. Nice to know you're pointing out the bed length/payload space area. That there is more room then conventional pickup trucks in this segment.

It seems like front pair of wheels are pushed wright to front of a car, so there is no room for bigger frunk. Maybe it is a sacrifice for overall shorter vehicle with bigger bed at the back.
@rogerpicklum1871
@rogerpicklum1871 11 месяцев назад
It's nice to have a frunk, but in a pickup the main feature is the bed. I think it's a good set of tradeoffs to get a shorter vehicle. You could still put a big tool box in there. The big chunky object looks tilted back in the one photo at 2"22, so maybe the floor is tilted back or has a lip at the front.

@@Petemitchell0341 Well, let's say you drive all day long but need to rest every few hours. For example a holiday with your family. Are you really going to stay inside while your kids are outside stretching their legs? Or how about just enjoying the view? Or making sure that lunch doesn't get into the interior? And even on your own, talking to someone else while charging is much better outside. It's also a great solution for smokers that don't want their interior ruined or kids addicted.

Or maybe Tesla was just using the CT to pick up some stuff from a nearby Tesla building. But towing testing is a must, but I'd imagine it was done already.
@rogerfroud300
@rogerfroud300 11 месяцев назад
Another thing it needs is an interface to a towbar with integrated loadcell. That way the Cybertruck will know precisely what the drag is on what it's towing in realtime, and therefore give an accurate estimate of the range. This automatically adjusts itself if you drive faster or if there's a tail wind. It ought to be trivially simple. Load cells are cheap, and I'm sure everyone who tows a lot would buy one.

Looks like there are mounting points for some sort of cargo net - which would be much better than a "lip" to keep stuff from falling out, and the net can be removed when not needed. One thing the Ford F150 Lightning has in it's frunk is AC power outlets, which can power tools or any other device. I don't see any AC outlets in the Cybertruck frunk, and it really could use some.

Agree with you EV, closed off frunk would be best. As a previous owner of a Tundra, an F-150, and two Rams, the one problem I always had with my trucks was room for the smaller things like groceries, takeout, kids sports equipments/baseballs, footballs, volleyballs, soccer balls, etc. Trucks are great for the big stuff but always wished I had a small storage area for the smaller things. I hated having that stuff roll around all over my bed. When I would reach my destination I’d have to climb in the bed and get my scattered things. They even sell third party gear to help with this issue. It’s a real problem with truck owners. RAM sort of addresses it with the Ram box, Ridgeline has the “trunk” inside the bed but it’s easier to access with their side swing tailgate. The Tesla Frunk would be perfect if it was closed off in the front to keep stuff from falling out when you open it.

I don't see any plugs in the frunk?? Which I find uncompetitive since the Ford has them. Looks like they want easy access to the car components behind the frunk liner?? Then I see cables running up both arms of the front hood in one of the pics you showed. I think the windshield water jets are in the wiper arm itself so why cables running up both sides? Is it possible that the plugs are in the inside of the bonnet itself?

There is no lip to allow putting cement bags or similar in it. It is not an SUV or a familly car. You wanted a pickup truck you have one, do not complain about shopping that could fall out 🙂

Hey Sam, any word on whether or not the CT will have the Tesla version of Ford's Trailer Backup Assist? Maybe walking in back of the trailer with your phone running the Tesla app where you can guide the trailer where you want it to go? Now THAT would be awesome! No additional hardware needed except a reflective adhesive strip to place on the front of the trailer so the CT's rear camera can see it (and then a measurement is programmed into the CT's software).

I barely use my frunk on my car… I don’t think it’s a deal breaker for many ppl. Most trucks have no frunk.

Lip should be higher. Groceries could slide all around and fall out when frunk opens.

More vehicle length in a bed is more efficient in the cybertruck than having a shorter bed then a bigger nose and frunk in the f150. A nose you can not pile things up or have something taller like than what you have have in a bed. Cybertruck is a much better and more functional and useful design. It would be more practical to have no frunk and a flat front and an even bigger bed with the sacrifice of aerodynamics and also front crumple zone. The cybertruck has a good compromise giving you the best of both worlds. Otherwise making a vehicle longer just presents other problems with parking, driving, turning etc.

It should be a drop down "nose gate" "tailgate", better for crash ratings.

I would be fearful it would go flying in a hard front end collision.

After spending a lot of money on the Cybertruck, I would use cheap garbage bags to store stuff in the frunk.

If it can fit a set of golf clubs, then it's perfect because, let's be honest; initial buyers are not gonna be using this as a "work truck." Majority of pickups aren't, anyways.
