I just stumbled across your channel, i'm planning on doing the same as you but in Thailand I feel so at home there, not like here in the UK. I nearly did it 20 odd years ago but it would have meant selling my house here and going all in, but I knew I would never really feel relaxed without having a place to go back to if things went Pete Tong. Hopefully I will get out there soon, if not then it will have to be the retirement thing, either way I am determined to leave this world wearing shorts and flip flops. @@alan4x
Good on ya. I relocated from the UK to Isabela to be with my filipina wife. I made the conscious, but scary and excited decision to leave a highly paid job (I was a CEO for a global tyre company) at the age of 55. Best decision I ever made! Since July 2023, I have got my 1st year residency visa and started to build our modern Filipino home. Oh, and we bought a 2 hectare farm to grow rice 😊 Waking up with my wife every day and having a stress free life is amazing. Anyone considering coming to the Philippines, please do it if you can. It's an amazing country and the people are so kind, respectful and happy. Cheers, Simon
Simon, i think in the west we chase the wrong things. Covid taught me as a engineer travelling worldwide. I had no money for 2 years but strangely i was happy. Now i work half as much and travel more. Like i say where are the smiling happy faces in the UK not seen them for awhile.
Everyone back in the Freezing UK is happy for you Alan. Make it work and always remember, "You may not know where you are going, but be damned if you are going back where you have been"
Now ain't that the truth..... I moved to Asia and its more like England in its social ways from when I was a kid 50 years ago..... much better quality of life.
So many dream of changing their lives but for most it remains just that, a dream. Fear of the unknown, thoughts of missing friends and family, financial constraints or whatever. A believable excuse to oneself is far better than none at all. But you, Alan, have taken that leap of faith into the unknown. That is admirable in itself. The UK has, in my opinion, together with most of the western world entered or is entering a period of decay both in a financial and moral sense. I wish you and your filipino lady every happiness and success..
Mr Mondeo, such a shame to see you go but you've got to follow your heart. Wishing you both the best in your future life and dont forget to keep us updated.
we are born imperfect..just live life the way u want as long as our not stepping to anyone...happiness is a choose..spread love, not hate.@mynameismarko7658
Good on you, Alan. Like you, I’m awake to the plandemic and how the WEF are convincing our governments to work against their own people. The U.K. is crumbling and I have thought many times about leaving. I hope it all works out for you. Keep us updated. Although the content is different to why I subscribed to your channel, I’m still interested to know what life is like in the Philippines. 👍
Don't let the door hit you on the way out. This Christmas I barely had enough tin foil for the Turkey what with demand being so high🙄 I moved to Asia for career reasons 28 years ago and I love it but you won't hear me sh#itting all over where I'm from. I spend a month in Scotland every year and I appreciate a lot of the things we have much more than when I lived there. It's sad so many people seem to think it's necessary to rubbish their own country as part of moving to another and in my experience these types of people who were massively negative at home will end up massively negative in their new adopted home because the issue actually lies with them and moving geographies won't fix that obviously
Stumbled across your utube channel a few years back. I too am in the taxi trade, running mostly Ford's I really wish you and your son all the best in your new life. The pandemic is global. Living without an income is next to impossible in the western world, but possible in the Philippines. Look forward to seeing your progress on the farm😊
I don't blame you moving out of this country, it's completely broken from the top down! Philippines has gained a great very talented mechanic, you can take that skill anywhere in the world and make a success out of it. Best wishes for the future.
@@angelicinspirations You lead by example, this lot in authority are a shambles I'm honestly embarrassed for them! How can they get the simple, most basic things so incredibly wrong, over and over.....😳😲🤔
@@radioclash84 Look at his farm, land and laid back lifestyle he now has compared to what he left in the UK! A busy, stressful job where he admitted he never really made any money, until recently, only able to exist and pay bills, that's no life! Stress is the biggest cause of ill health and mental issues here. He's living in paradise compared to the UK. Add to that he will most likely enjoy a much more healthy diet than the fast food / microwave meals he'll be used to here. Plus the cost of living is way lower, sure earnings are lower but with a small holding like that he'll be very self sufficient. He can now do his nechanicing as a 'hobby' and still make good money from it rather tha it being a 'job' where he is under constant pressure. Good luck to him... This country is going down the drain fast. My sis moved out to Australia years ago and enjoys a much better standard of living, has a bigger house, nicer car and is more financially stable, doing exactly the same job as she did in the UK, she travels regularly around the Philippines on her holidays and tells me it is paradise, better than our family holidays in N. Wales growing up anyway....😳😁👍
All my love and best wishes dude. Thank you for helping me fix my mk111 Mondeo all those times. I recently moved 250 miles and relocated my family to Devon. There are challenges. Especially in your heart. Remember we only live once. Living the same year 80 times is not living. The world is a small place and people like you give it courage. Send it mate. X
GOODLUCK mate. I was born in the Philippines and has since lived in the UK for over 38yrs now and becoming disillusioned therefore will also be going back to the Philippines. Looks like there are plenty of things there to keep you busy. Just keep active and eat well and you should be fine there. GOODLUCK to you and your new family in the Philippines 👍
Well done mate, hope everything works out for you. There's nothing worse than being anxious and stressed, so I wish you all the best in the Philippines, good luck man.
Well done sir you have 💯% made the right choice the uk will never get any better its a shambles, I visited the Philippines 4 months ago and fell in love with the place im going back in July for 3 weeks and moving to the beautiful Philippines 🇵🇭 in 2026 ....I will not miss this broken UK.
Alan, I have been a “lurker” on your channel for quite some time now - I wish you all the very best with this move - I made the jump from UK to USA many years ago (1990), but the “safety net” was much more robust than yours, so I salute you sir!
Just came across your channel and will be following your journey. My wife is from the Philippines and we are planning to go and live there in around 4 years. I love the way of life there, its not for everyone but it suits me just fine
Best of luck to you Alan, I stumbled apon your channel and loved it years ago, I too am 56 and started for a Toyota dealership in the early 80's then drifted into engineering, I'm very well paid too and lucky to have been round the world on some fantastic holidays and had a really good life but I'm at the same point as you were, I'm sick of getting up 5 days a week and working for the man and I am thinking there has to be more to life than this! looking back on my life now I kinda think why didn't I join the Royal Navy and get paid to see the world lol, so please keep the fantastic videos coming.
Best of luck mate. I feel your emotions entirely. I’m slightly younger but have worked in the same field since I was 16. Getting up to work in the only profession I know every single day just makes me feel sick to the stomach. Currently working out my “out” route myself. Don’t think of it as taking a risk - the biggest risk in life is doing nothing and checking out full of regrets. Hope it all works out for you! Edit to say - Bukidnon is amazing. Great hiking and as you say, amazing views! Your spot is perfect - I’d be perched on the bank of that river with a rod most days I reckon!
Very happy to hear that you've made the decision. I'm considering a similar move (similar situation to you financially but don't own any property in the UK) from the UK to the wife's home country, have already bought a property over there which we're slowly fitting out as a holiday home at the moment. Cost of living in the UK in retirement for us will be breadline at best no matter what I try to do financially whereas abroad it will be about £400-500 pm and that's living to Western standards.
l have lived in Asia for over 10 years. Today l have a Filippina wife, in fact l did meet her in my home country she is 25 years younger than me and we did move to the Philippines but covid happen and we did move back home again, now we have a daugther and l want her to grow up in my contry so my traveling days are over. I envy you who can live in the Philippines now, as I miss the sun and warmth
Hi Alan. Great update and glad your happy with your choice to leave. I appreciate it was a big big. Life changing step. I thinks it would be nice to hear from. Tyler. His thought's and reason's for coming with you. I assume a deal was done between the two of you. If Tyler does not get what the country has to offer a teenager's future. A plan is in place for him to move on. This video should be on a mainstream TV documentary channel, For sure. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers. 👍👍
cheers Norman, yes will update Tyler later when I know how it all works but will enrolling him into mindanao central college so will see how it works out, he is vet happy at the moment, I told him no matter what happens we have plan b lol, all the best
Don't blame you at all, Alan ! UK is going down the tubes, Good luck in your new life, BTW I hope those piggies get to have a run around in a bigger area sometimes, they are very intelligent animals and deserve to be treated humanely, sermon over 😀
Very bold. My husband Andy said he can so much relate to your fears regarding receiving the "last wage" & your stress getting to / time preparing for work. He said it felt so much like "eat, sleep, repeat". We now do something very different to before & love it. Yes there is work to do & times of stress but it does not feel the same as the old grind routine.
Hi Alan ,great video as usual, wishing you ,Tyler ,Ken , and all her family all the best for the future, looking forward to seeing your next video to seeing how you are all getting on ,all the best mate ,,,Dave
You did the right thing... when you are "comfortable" there is nothing to strive for in life. I have moved continents 7 times since 1980... I am 66 now and I am still looking toward the horizon for my next move. When I come back to the UK and see the people I know who have never gone further than their garden gate, I can see how I have "grown". There is so much to see out in the world and the thought of staying ond one place too long is suffocating... for me in any case. Someone once told me "courage is leaving the familiar behind". What you have done is daunting but exciting at the same time. Don't worry about the finances, if it feels tight, everything will fall into place. Just think about the memories you are making for Tyler and yourself; it will be amazing for him. Best wishes...and be thankful for the opportunity.
AWW ALAN u finally done it,, congratulations to uou and ken Tyler &Nicole,, i wish you from the bottom of our hearts here that it all works out for you both(ken) its funny ive been thinking of you recently how you have been getting on,, such a brave man,, your a youtuber that id love to meet hopefully 1 day when you return,, well alan you really done it this time super big congratulations and keep posting, live your life and be happy your right we only get the one life live life to the full ,, ,,, from paul& fiana kids here in cold Scotland ❤
Good luck to you, Alan. You are doing the right thing. If you can improve your life then go for it. It is not all about money and possessions, it's about happiness and contentment. I gave up a good job at 42 to go self employed and never regretted it. The warm weather must be nice (it is cold and raining here!). Keep us informed. A (PS, do they have any Mondeos out there!!)
Big respect for you on this. I’m same age. Very interested in how you fit in with new culture. Please let us know about that as you learn. Best of luck with every step.
I have been looking forward to this video Alan.. well done for being brave enough to do it. It reminds me about when I moved to UK, especially about overweight luggage and starting your life over in a new place. Good luck! 👍 Nice of Monica to take you both to the airport 👍
Well done Alan and Good luck with your new life and Adventures to come and a new start in life and I would like to say live the dream as you only live once so enjoy your new world
Never heard or seen your chanel before. Just want to say go for it and enjoy it what a bold move . I hope you an your new woman/ girlfriend are happy wishing you all best fella ❤
Keep the videos coming Alan, really interesting and thank you for sharing your journey. Compelling viewing. You are wise to take the opportunity, never give yourself the chance to say maybe I should have, just go and do it. Wonderful to have a backstop as you have though. We only have one chance at this life so make of it what you can and if you have the opportunity, grasp it and make the most of it. Good luck and I for one look forward to many more videos over the years. Who needs TV when we’ve got people like yourself out there.
Cheers Alan, great to hear of your change of lifestyle and move to the Phillipines. Keep us updated, I'm looking forward to see what the future holds for you. Good luck mate.
Alan I'd like to wish you happiness, health and success in your new life, congratulations and many thanks for all of your Mondeo Mk5 videos which have helped me out tremendously! Sláinte 🍺
Great video Alan... we all feel the same as you... it takes guts to make a move like that... my wife is from Palawan... and we are hoping to move there in the next few years... I've followed your videos on Mondeos forever... great content and saved me a huge amount of cash on mechanics... I'll be really interested to see what kind of vehicle you buy yourself out there... second hand prices are crazy... All the best... I hope we can expect more content now you have the time... lolol... We are all rooting for you!!!!
Best of luck Alan. Ex mechanic myself and currently drive a taxi. Got some good pointers over the years from your page regarding my mondeo. Anyway I think you made the right choice. Only get one go at life so enjoy 👍👍
Good on you fella wish you all the best, but I will miss your videos god they made me laugh your a top bloke take care ,life in the uk is very stressful, looks nice where you are you enjoy
So so happy for ya buddy and can totally understand your nervous about it but your not getting any younger and time to enjoy the rest of your life hopefully stress free. Keep the video's coming on your progress over there ok 👍
Sounds to me that you have made a phenominal decision Alan having listened to you and watched the video. Totally get the motivation behind it. Yes, there's going to be moments, but that's all part of the excitement. I take my hat off to you...
All the best Alan. Have loved your channel this last 5 years. I tried to emigrate to NZ twice in 2009 and 2011, but unfortunately wasn't able to get it over the line. It ended up in part costing me my marriage a few years later. The very best of luck...and keep the videos coming.
I’m lucky enough to have a house in Palawan (san vicente) can’t wait until the 27th when I get back there(I’m British )you made the best move of your life ❤where about are you, get yourself round for a brew if you’re nearby
Well done pal, very brave but I'm so jealous. Me and family thinking about moving to south Europe as the gen weather in uk just getting worse every year
😮😮Good luck to you enjoy your new life we're planning to travel next year and we can't wait I will follow your lovely new life all the best to you both 😊
You Never know where life is going to take you. Well done for making the commitment to try something new. Anxiety is a powerfull disability Never feed it by backing down, embrace change. I have also been a mechanic for over 40 years, luckily I love it still (I think it's a frame of mind you have to practice being in) For the last 12 or so I have been self employed. It was scary & is stressfull, but the rewards are worth it now. Best of luck for you. I can tell you care about things, so you will make it!
Hope it works out for you Alan, It takes a lot of bravery to make such a move, you certainly seem more relaxed, you'll need to get Monnie out there every now and then if you're going to keep uploading, will your son stay out there with you? how will you earn a living? what will happen to your house? so many questions we need many more videos
thanks for the questions, you know I have left it open for more vids to come lol, my son hopefully will be enrolled in the mindanao college and I did not mention that I have rented my house out which will give me an income while we get the pig business up and running, yes I will make more videos now I am jobless lol, thank you canal boating and have a good one
You will be sadly missed Alan I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to to meet you as I’m often in Cambridge but good luck good health and stay lucky and please keep doing the videos 👍🏻
You're a braver man than me mate. I know we all moan, and quite rightly, about life in the UK but it takes real guts to make the move and by the sounds of it you havent got much to lose by trying. Personally I couldn't give up the creature comforts to live in the 3rd world but if it doesn't work out you can always come back. The first time someone asks you for cash, for whatever reason, get straight on the plane.
You made me love my mondeo mk3 , believe me I bought elente 2021 but didn't get rid of my mondeo mk3 because of your marvelous videos.greetings from Saudi Arabia
