My Scion XB 297,000, just last week I replaced all original 02 sensor up & down stream, IAC valve & sensor, MaxAir flow sensor, camshaft sensor, PCV valve, all 4 coils, plus new sparks plugs calibrated @44. car is now running like new.
Same here! Bought my brand new in 2005 and now it became a project for me as I'm driving it to work everyday (1 hour commute each way). Currently have 191k miles. Recently painted it, tinted the windows darker, added a stereo that supports Android Auto and Apple Car Play, got new rims, new headlights. I've been loving this thing for 17yrs.
I've got an 04 same color as yours 8P8 obsidian blue pearl and mine has 269k on it and runs just fine... Yours is about at the age and milage where the fuel injectors wear out but it's an easy job and not really expensive to buy so if you develop a funky cold misfire that will be your sign to check them and also cleaning the throttle body but even with 260k+ Miles I still take it on 1200 mile trips with confidence so keep her going man.. She still has plenty of life left!
If I were you, Ethan, I would keep that forever. That model is slated to become extinct fairly soon. Not many were sold, and nobody is fixing the ones that are around. You should also buy some extra parts for it now, because those will become extinct as well. This will be like a guy that has a one owner 1989 Hyundai Excel. Those cars are all but extinct now.
@@ANaddiction07 HI, I am not sure. What parts do you think will get damaged over time and will be hard to find. When I worked at a Chevy dealer back in 1987, I thought a buyer of a Camaro should buy a new front lip, which goes below the bumper, and keep it because they always get scraped up. That way they can have a new one to install when the one on the car gets too damaged to be repaired. I thought the same of the buyers of the Beretta GTZ which had a special low production front bumper. I knew those parts would not be reproduced and if they were the cost would be really high.
Got the same exact 1 onyx, blue, pearl. Roofs peeling & rear bumper turned faded matte. I’m now customizing mine. Put DC strut bar & hotchkis rear sway bar. My strup axleback exhaust is on it’s way. My mileage is about 240K+. If I were you buy that DC strut bar & you will be amaze when you do turns. It doesn’t feel as much like your about to roll over. Goodluck with your fixer upper!🙏🏽🙌🏼
I remember going to the Seattle International Auto show when the Scion was first unveiled. I think I still have the brochures and stuff that they were handing out? Always loved the xB. You should definitely turn yours into a TRD inspired xB
That beut was my chariot when I came to LA to pick up the BMW 740 last summer! She deserves to live on! Maybe the new look could have more of a rad '80's vibe, stripes and colors, Hello Road logo than make it the new mobile world headquarters for Hello Road!
Keep it stock, Ethan! Like you said, it doesn't make a ton of sense to sink a ton of $ into a car with 225k miles on it. I think the stock look with some cool wheels if you want would look good too!
came from oppo, you should look into the jdm front and rear bumpers without the ground effect, mixed with the simpler domestic clear headlights this makes the car look pretty clean in its design, not for everyone though. I want to get one of these first gens, remove all the skirting and lift it a little, use it in these northeast winters and off the road a bit in the summers.
please please please do the Toyota colors with the stock wheels. Loved that idea! I'm also fixing up my 2005 Scion xA (RS 1.0) and it's only 116k. Glad to see I'm not the only one that's sentimentally attached to their Scion.
I'm not really up on Scions, as we didnt get them in the UK. But I reckon the factory colour, some nice wheels. A slightly lowered suspension, and some stripes. Maybe in a silver or grey, or whatever colour of wheels you decide to go for. Would look nice, could do the mirrors the same colour as the wheels too? I kind of got carried away, on my 183,000 mile 2002 Ford Focus. Paid £100, to my work colleague. As I was in desperate need of a car at the time, and he was going to scrap it. As he'd bought a new car, and couldn't be bothered with it. 3 years on, it's still going strong. This year I spent a little on the bodywork, as it failed its Mot. So I went all out, replaced the rusty doors. Upgraded the alloys, fitted fog lights. All with used parts off eBay, Facebook Marketplace. Or from my local scrap yard, looks a different car! My colleague can't believe its same one, yes I might of spent more than it'd sell for. But I got no plans to sell it yet, if it keeps going I'm all in!
You should put some 17inch rims or 18inch. add a spoiler, eBay has the halo headlights and led tail lights bundled up. And of course a roof rack for a sky box for them camping trips or bike racks. This should spice up your xb looks. I would say wrap the car up since it’ll be on the less expensive side. There’s a lot of great colors out there for a wrap job.
Hey love that you made a video of this , I would suggest getting into the Facebook group pages there's scion xB customization and scion xB customization no rules , and so cal scion xb , you can find everything from after market parts ,jdm parts and the great support of the community can't wait to see you in the groups ☺️ - a fellow xB enthusiast
Crazy how well Toyota interiors hold up, and how easy these cars are to service (look at that cavernous engine bay!), and how you didn't get rust in that wheelwell (dry CA climate probably to thank for that one). As for what to do with the car's look, my vote is to either- 1. Keep it stock, buy stock hubcaps. OR 2. Make it an alternate reality 80s Toyota, kinda like you mentioned, with the Toyota badging and TRD stripes. Bonus if you could find some Toyota wheels (or hubcaps) from the era. The boxy look even screams 80s. Either way, I wouldn't personally lower the ride height at all if its your daily. Rougher ride and you could easily get you new bumpers hung up and scraped on inclines.
100% do a retro Toyota. I love that idea. FYI those Klutch wheels wont fit without some modifications like flares, fender rolling, negative camber or something similar. I have just started on my xB project as well so I will be following your progress on this.
When's the next update on the Xb? I'd really love to see you restore it. No one really cares for them enough to make it like new again. I'm sure there's alot of jdm xb stuff you can get that will make it really cool
Buddy has over 300,000 on his business xb, and 250,000 on his personal xb. I have 175,000 on mine and has been totaled twice. It has a cold air intake and the guy also put a tune in it. I felt was crazy due to it being a little 1.5l
damn i could have used that front bumper lol for a XB project my friend is doing it is great to see the Ol XB getting some work done. as for boxy rides i just did coilover, brakes and a rear spoiler on my Honda element, nothing too flashy but it stands out enough and is still usable
For the teal green you had in mind the Fox body Mustangs in Calypso Green were great looking. Definitely a punchy color for the xB would be awesome. The latter generation xB had an exclusive color that was pretty interesting, it was called Electric Quartz. It was a white pearlescent that flashed green in the highlights. That would look amazing in the sun. Check it out. Also for the graphics, an 80’s ‘Vice City’-looking large circle sun with palm tree silhouette in front of it would be simple and impactful. Would be a good compliment to the bright teal.
The old school Toyota colors would look really nice! Maybe some nice simple but larger wheels (17s) and a roof rack. I just got one (maroon color) with 185k running smooth and all it has is larger wheels (17s) and a slight lowering kit and I get tons of compliments. I'm definitely throwing a roof rack though 😁
I actually kinda dig the teal paintwork idea. Maybe with a set of those Klutch wheels in a tasteful silver so there's not too much going on. But honestly, just restoring back to how it looked in 2006 would be neat too.
Maybe sand the stock wheels and repaint them? If not maybe some black aftermarket wheels would look cool. I mean, if you've had it for 15 years, I'd try to keep the entire car as stock as possible, if you know what I mean. They don't make Scions anymore... Oh and maybe you could go for the "Majority Scion xB" look by leaving the back bumper off!
How about the Basketweave wheels that Toyota used on the 2nd gen Camry? Those looked REALLY nice, and the front of the Scion XB is very similar to that generation Camry, I think it would look really slick. Although....they are only 14 inch rims and good quality tires that size are getting harder to find. Edit: oops scratch that, the Scion only has 4 lugnuts, you’d need a set from an MR2.
I bought hubcaps from ebay. Search for Scion xb hupcaps black matte on ebay and you will get plenty of choices. The matte looks good all the time. I had the gloss but it only looked good for a day. I am getting new tires so I plan to spray the wheels with a dark gray matte rustoleum which will give a slight contrast to the wheels., Also I was told by my mechanic if your tires are good then cover the tires with a good coat of tire gloss. Then spray wheels and wipe off the tires.
Several good videos on RU-vid for how to best re-paint black steel wheels. That's the way to go, I think. Going to do that on my 2008 Honda Fit base, I think. Its wheels look almost the same. I still have the hubcaps on, but I can see the rust and grayed paint through the holes in the caps. Wow, that 8:13 leaf pile is something. At 8:41 that wheel is a little more bent than my tastes. I would look to have someone straighten it out or just buy a cheap replacement. Color: I always have a hankering to do one in the Bianchi celeste green. Those Corvette wheels are surprisingly good. That said, I would try to keep it as stock as much as possible, but that's just my taste.
Great video and informative. I would go with a 80s theme of teal and stripes. (Heartbeat style ) Looking forward to new video . Anything mechanical? Like Cold air intake or coil overs . Black rims ?
Great video. I really like the stock color, I'd stick with it. Maybe with some tasteful retro graphics. As for wheels, both the '90-'05 Miata and '00-'05 MR2 use the same wheel bolt pattern and hub bore center as the XB, and had some pretty nice factory alloys. It shouldn't be difficult to find someone who has installed aftermarket wheels on one of those cars and is looking to offload the OEMs for an inexpensive upgrade.
Your xb and mine could be twins haha i even ditched the hub caps too. I love mine we drive it all over like you did and will keep doing so. After all mine has only 207,000 miles so i gotta catch up.
Well maybe you can paint the stripe baby blue and pink retro style but if I was you i Draw stripe first on the paper get different marker color for the stripe on paper and try different color to match for Car .
I had an 05 XB from 2006 to 2015. It was a great car. I traded it in for a 2015 XB and that was the worst car I have ever owned. I gave it back to Toyota and cut my losses.
Don't paint it, just wrap it. It will be quite cheaper, will prevent further decay of the paint, and it's something you can do by yourself (one or two videos more). You could get a "chameleon style" as some of the early 90s cars had, meaning the color change depending of the ilumination. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P1rqq1QVmJ0.html About the rims, you can get some "holleys" (that's the street name of the 15" Imola rims used by the first generation of the Mini Cooper), which are really cheap (you can get them for 50$/piece), have an atractive retro style you would probably like, and really light (about 10 lbs per rim). I'm not sure if those rims would work with that car, though. You should also get some fog lights for the front bumper, which are a must if you intend to do road trips with that car.
@@DAT-TEXAS-DUDE Hey there! I have a couple vids with the Scion since then: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LeovgT7F2Fk.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-noU3uT4c3Hk.html
I hate when people Question me about putting money into my 2000 Camry with 430 K Original miles On her. I adopted her almost 21 years ago next month and with the exception of the 1st 700 miles We've been together the last 429,300 Miles and I don't care what the book value Is If she needs something she gets it.
You all are hardcore car enthusiasts, @kippaseo keep it going, try to hit 500,000 mile, there people out there with 1,000,000 mile in some cars, very rare but it’s out there. If you don’t plan on selling it, it’s ok to put money into it.
Can a 15 year old car in cold and salty Canada look better than a California car of the same age? I am in Canada and my 2005 Vibe has virtually perfect paint because it gets one coat of paste wax per year, an annual application of Krown Rustproofing and it sleeps INDOORS. Garages Rule!!!
Yessss! These cars deserve so much more love. I miss letting mine go everyday :( Hyped for this series PS: I'd replace the water pump as often as you can, that's what killed mine as it overheated and then messed up the head gasket
Same. I traded mine in for a newer Mazda, then traded the Mazda in for a 2019 ford ranger - nice truck, BUT, I’ve since handed the payments over to my father in law and bought a 2006 XB cash with tons of life in it and I don’t regret it one bit. I missed my box so much. I’m happier than ever driving again now that I have a box again 👍🏽
I remember how big these were with the tuner community when it was released. I thought it was an odd looking vehicle but not bad. A metallic teal or aqua would SCREAM 80's on that car.
Paint it the factory color and slightly lower it and get some new wheels, the original Mini Cooper S rims look awesome on these! Can’t wait for more videos
I love my 2004 xb but it’s got issues. The power windows need breaks to go up. It will go up an inch or two then stop then you have to wait a few minute and continue the process. The windshield wipers stop wherever they are when you turn them off. The power door locks sometimes will work and sometimes will unlock themselves randomly. The motor mounts are broken so the engine shakes and chirps… but it still runs!
Wheel suggestion: Spinner Hubs! haha I have a 2006, and fixing mine is more a passion project too... I'm considering making a video series similar to this is my progress.
What's the point of repainting the car If you don't wax it? My car sits in the Miami Sun 21 years now and there is no Fading or peeling. You should definitely switch to a good high mileage oil and never never go 5 k or 6 months Between oil changes. The only reason that engine Burns oil is because The oil changes are spaced too far apart for that little V VTI engine that has to work pretty hard Especially going up The inclines of Southern California. As a wholesaler I have personally seen Those engines wish well over 400 K. Even ones That have been severely defiled by my fellow young Julio ricers From back in the day. We would joke that not only Would those little XBs Out live their owners but after the passing they could be used as A Hearst Then as a little Box shaped Casket. Keep changing the oil! No mechanic ever told the owner that they killed their car because they changed the oil to frequently. Oil is cheap engines are expensive
The car deserves a day at a good detailer before you start talking about paint. Bring it back 90%, but with a little bit of patina which tells your story. Chemically treat or perhaps repaint the trim pieces. Treat yourself to a nice set of rims, or even fresh steelies (find some cool vintage Toyota centre caps/hardware). Stripes could be cool if you could find something that goes with original colour.
Such a love/hate thing…my son and mechanic friends is helping me restore a 2005 I purchased that spent years in Minnesota and it is crusty and rusty. If I don’t sell it, I’ll drive it forever!
i never understood this "car isnt worth fixing because it exceeds its value" if a car has been reliable, then of course its worth it... and people forget about the rule of ownership... if you pay 1200-1500 for a car and it lasts a year... the car pays for itself... If you have gone years without a breakdown, why not refresh the asthestics? okay rant over... why not do a wrap in the toyota racing? that way if you ever want to go back to the dark blue, its not another paint job... i would also be interested in seeing if toyota racing ever used dark blue with other colors... If my wife didn't want her white prius to be sedate, i would definitely go with the racing colors too... however i would look at radwood era designs and see what pops up... i think that would be the greatest way to customize and you could still do the graphics in a wrap (in case you tire of them:) Check out wheelfitment.eu. this tells what stock wheels fit on your car (and what other cars use the same bolt pattern and such) really helps getting different wheels just incase your budget doesnt support nrand new wheels and tires
Hi Mr. Ethan! i just wanted to say that i love your rad videos and i hope you’ll never stop producing rad content! you are the inspiration that boosted my confidence in looking for a 80’s/90’s radwood era car and hopefully i’ll see you in the future one day at radwood!! ❤️🤟
I really like the stock color. I'm agreeing on an upgrade with some blacked out wheels & mimimal graphics if you want more. Big thumbs up for beautifying the box!
Please stay with the stock color! It's really cool. Or at least don't move too far away from the original color. As for stripes ... we all know, you're an 80ies-guy. So what's more 80ies than the "A-Team"? I say, get some "A-Team-Van-Stripes"! That would be 80ies, ironic and overall cool ... and more importantly, it would be totaly rad!
IG: @SNKR_SAVAGE Currently, going through the same process. I have an 06 XB White just put new headlights in. Gonna replace front bumper as well as back bumper. 12+ plus year's ago She had 20's on Her BUT moved to Cali and She would have never made it with 225/35/R20 so put the stock wheels back on. The stock wheels had less than 50 miles when I took them off back in 05 *shishh* how time flies. Looking forward to seeing what You do to Yours!? I got nothing else ✌ Greetings from Texas!
Depends if you really LOVE the car. If you just want to give it the respect it deserves. I'd just repaint it with the factory color, some nice coil overs or springs and get some rad era wheels like the snowflake pattern wheel like the old firebirds had to match your taste in cars.
Wow! Totally go with that Toyota color scheme! I don't really like any of the rims you showed. Maybe just a nice set of chrome 5 spoke rims would look good. I wouldn't really lower the car by much either.
Become one of us by becoming none of us! I say go with your gut. Do the wheels, the retro stripes, new paint and it will bring you another 225k miles of smiles!
