Same! I personally love technology, but the Mercedes Hyperscreen is super tacky. If I were to option it I would actually prefer the base infotainment package. With the wood dash trim. It looks so much classier.
@@FGGiskardThe loss value doesn’t differ much from a regular S class as all luxury cars depreciate fast. For sure there’s a depreciation about depreciation comments and notoriously negative comments on electric vehicles.
Why anyone would want to feel like they are sitting inside a computer while on their way to an office to sit at a computer for another 7-10 hours is beyond me.
The S Class is not as aerodynamic as the EQS so the electric range would not be as good. It is also on a different platform that probably can’t be fully electrified. Hopefully the next version of the EQS will be a proper S Class.
@@gregrich I mean bmw managed to make an i5 which is basically 5 series electrified. The i5 although uglier than the g30 lci still looks better that an eqe or eqs. Mercedes needs to admit that they jellybean design of the eq lineup is not working and change it.
@@BobBrown. Agree 100%. Mercedes said they will no longer build egg-shaped EVs. Google Mercedes and egg-shaped EVs. Road & Track wrote an article on it.
@@gregrich I d take a 50km hit on range from 600+ to 500ish for the car to actually look good. I think most previous S class owners would. The interior is also to loud stylisically, it really has lost it's elegance and feeling of refinement.
@@BobBrown.The 5 series is made on a platform which is on purpose made to cover combustion engines, hybrids and fully electric. So they already thought about electrify, which isn't done with the s class platform
Some brands have withdrawn from subscription-based hardware features, but Mercedes stands firm. This approach seems excessively greedy to me. Not considering a Merceds until they stop this madness.
What a terrible solution. I don't see how the original seat passed design phase. This is the same group of people who make the S_Class and it has arguably the most comfortable seat in the world outside of a Phantom.
Did you ever drive a S class? You don´t need the pillows - seats are great - also in the EQS. The pillows add to the comfort - if you tried it with a Mercedes you will love it.
The Jellybean EQ design language is a failure that the CEO just refuses to accept. The EQ-Line up should be an excellent case study for other manufacturers of how giving the people what you think they want vs what they're willing to accept in lieu of efficiency (ie G-Wagen Brick vs aero smooth-GLS) If they made the current gen or any future gen S-Class look like a traditional sedan shape, it would be their best seller since the first gen ML(reliability aside)
Argh this new CEO of Mercedes is running the brand to the ground. They don't listen to customers at all. And cost cutting is so evident in every single model. I've driven cheap Chinese cars with more solidly built interiors that don't creak and groan when pushing on panels.
Let's all go back to mobile phones with no touchscreen because we don't like change LOL! This IS the new S Class, get used to it, as the brick is not coming back.
That CEO who apparently refuses to accept it has also said that the next S-class will be fully electric with more traditional styling. This change to EQS also reflects that, you just can't change the whole shape of the car in a facelift.
Agreed 100%, where is exotic wood, leather, exotic materials... screens are mass made in cheep chines factories... and the best of all is that you almost certanly have one in your pocket...

"Automatic lane change on Autobahn between 80 and 140 kmh" was that also mentioned in the video, if so under what chapter (watched almost everything but was really searching for this specific option so first went to "cockpit and seats" chapter). Is this now the 2nd mercedes who has that? After the E-class. Or are there more (i know the new E-class was the first to have that)? My mercedes B from 2019 - and all other current mercedes - just have lane change assist.
Last week I started working at Mercedes-Benz Dealership and I had the opportunity to drive the current EQS 450+, oh boy, one of if not the most comfortable car I have ever driven, it goes over the bumps like no other car!!! It looks quite weird from outside but the AMG package makes it look better though, the interior looks gorgeous, every person that sat inside was super impressed. So yeah, EQS is an amazing luxury vehicle. I also had the opportunity to drive EQE SUV, it was the base model and man, it drives great!!!
I admit that the grille was one thing that would have stopped me buying an EQS. I generally only like Mercedes with a standing star on the bonnet. But the main thing I don’t like is the flashy interior; something I don’t want is a shiny glass dashboard. Am I the only one who doesn’t need a cheap nightclub in my car? This looks like an American limo you’d hire for a drunken bridal shower. My living room doesn’t have purple lights, white vinyl and screens everywhere. Why would I have that in my car??? Not classy… Less equipment and warmer, more natural and more analogue materials. Also a lower-power version. Even with cloth (good quality wool? A tweed?) seats. I think I’d rather have a 124 or 126 and have it converted to an electric drivetrain. I’m really not a fan of screens everywhere. It’s a big thumbs-down for me having a dashboard completely covered in screens. It’s a real shame. I drive a lot in the country with no street lighting. I’d love someone to do what Saab did and have a black panel switch for everything except the speedo.
The UI is still disgusting, as it has been for the last few years. The steering wheel buttons, the middle console buttons and the seat controls are all awful. They look and feel cheap. There's even more ambient lighting, for some reason. I guess if we're all blinded by the LEDs, we won't see all the nasty fingerprints and scratches everywhere in the interior. I can't wait to see more of these cars rot in dealership parking lots.
it has a clutch to deactivate front motor from powertrain in dual motor variants which will lead to 16 percent greater range in dual motor variants and increase of 11 percent in single motor models which is impressive and it will closer the gap between dual and single motor models in range,so you can get similar range in long highway trips in dual motors to single rearwheel drive motors which is impressive indeed, very well done mercedes

The EQS doesn't lose 50% range in winter. Even at temperatures of -30 C, my EQS 580 nominally gets 240 miles of range. A loss of 25%. In fact the EQS has one of the smallest cold weather losses of any EV even without a heat pump. The only reason they are adding one is to make the "internet experts" shut up. In addition, it has never bricked even when left outside in those temps overnight. In those conditions the only hint you get that the battery has been through a deep freeze is that the power is limited to 80% while it warms up.
@PFBNS Best car I've ever had (and I've had quite a few excellent ones), plus for me, it's pocket change. Instead of buying an S580 or similar car that will spew 50 tons of CO2 over ten years, I bought an electric equivalent. Given that I pay about 5 dollars for 300 miles if range, the car is a bargain in the long run. BTW, the EQS is faster, has a better ride, is quiter, and handles better than an S580 if you were wondering. ERGO better car, much cheaper to run and better for the environment. Now, do you get it?
I don't understand what Mercedes is doing here. BMW is able to offer the EXACT same 5er as an i5 .. why can´t we have E and S-Class exactly how they are just as EV? Why can´t Mercedes do it when BMW can? It's such a shame really.
But the i5 and i7 are on ICE platforms and it shows. The proportions are wrong to accommodate the big battery under the floor, the belt line is now too high. You also don’t get the same interior packaging as the EQE and EQS models which are built on dedicated platforms.
Anyone complaining about price or depreciation...it wasn't designed for people who even mention price......style? Beauty in the eye of the beholder ...
So basically with this executive seating plus blablabla you will get: 1. 4 basic cushions 2. 2 plastic-based/carpet-glued footrests 3. 1 button to fold the front seat For 4000 EUR. Definitely worth every single cent of it! 😂 Just a free idea for the next gen advanced executive seats - offer EQS-branded earplugs for 1000EUR extra.
Love your content from Australia Thomas! The design of this car is simply odd but I will say, having seen a few on the road they certainly have presence.
Its definitely an improvement, i just wish the front looked closer to eqs vision concept, it was more upright. With that said any time you add a hood ornament it improves the look, especially the view from the cockpit.
I personally don't understand the hate for the EQS and EQE. Both look incredible from inside and outside. I love the aerodynamic design a lot. It looks futuristic-luxury while the petrol S-class gives me old man vibes (who hates changes) lol. The EQS tells me that the person who drives it, is modern but sophisticated.
I drive an EQE and the number of people who come up to me in public to ask me about it is insane. They look amazing in real life and look super sleek when parked against previous generations of cars.
I LOVE it!! I currently have an EQE and get tons of compliments on my car. People stop me all of the time with questions about my car. I will admit that it took some time for me to love the car, but after driving it for a year, I can't see myself going back to a gas car.
@@MaticTheProto That's not what interests me. What interests me is the impact of the little emblem. :D I mean if you're trying to make the car as aerodynamic as possible, it's pretty counterintuitive to "ruin" that with a badge that sticks out. So either the impact is so small it is negligible or they just figured it's a staple MB thing, so they did it anyway.
@@michalsvihla1403 It's an S-Class thing, which fits this electric S-Class. It's a design choice and a statement, which is worth the minor aerodynamic loss. Cars could be more aerodynamic overall, but they would look ugly to most people.
It still looks like a jelly bean with a lot of chrome accents. The EQE Sedan looks a little better to me, but probably due to the shorter overall dimensions.
The tech is great but the reason people dont buy it still remains. No one with an S Class wants to waste 30 mins for ´refuelling´. Just the idea of being spotted at a charger... does Ola do that? I don´t think so.
Let's all go back to mobile phones with no touchscreen because we don't like change LOL! This IS the new S Class, get used to it, as the brick is not coming back.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S1aNZeoatmE.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. Definitely looks better than before! I like the design and it has very good aerodynamic coefficient. But one thing that I don’t like is why the center part of the steering wheel is still covered in plastic?! Come on Mercedes. You positioning this as Electric S class so cover it in leather then.

Charging customers to 'unlock' features already installed at the factory is treating the buyer with contempt. I wouldn't buy a Mercedes because of this. So disrespectful to the customer.
The more I see it the more I like it. I had the EQS for some time - and the best part is to drive it over distances, very lovely elegant car and everything comes together - especially the Hyper screen which shocks you at first glance - if you got used to it - and step into a normal car without it - its a lesser experience, especially at night.
They need a separate cooling system as well! One for the interior cabin and one for the batteries instead of redirecting the interior cabin cooling to cool the battery! MB has cut so many corners lately and it shows in multiple ways.
Honestly - I dig it. Coming from a C Class - i think it’s a good genesis. I think the negative comments are looking for a more bespoke car which this is not. You have to appreciate it for what it is.
Big fan of Mercedes Benz , but the EQ line up it’s not a success in my eyes. The SMART cars from Mercedes Benz looks really good! BUT im glad the next electric cars from Mercedes Benz will look more like the good “old/normal“ cars they offer 😍 This EQS looks really beautiful from the front, and nobody can say anything bad about that stunning interior!!!!! 😍
It’s a cool car, I like the 118 kWh pack and heat pump. Benz is listening to people. However I would not get the executive seat pack if it prevents you from folding the rear seats…
No need to say 4K, full screen etc mate... It all depends on what device is this video seen on.... Now to the car itself, I prefer if MB retained the larger logo on the front as well.
The front end looks slightly less like a 9th/10th gen Honda Civic now, but as others have said, the depreciation is shocking. A 2023 EQS Premium Plus with less than 1,000 miles on it are available for £50,000 below the price of a new vehicle on autotrader in the UK.
In the past I openly supported the idea that electric cars were the future. Not any more. Last month I rented a Tesla and I was horrified to see its dismal range when you drive it over 120 km/h. Electric cars are not suited for long holiday drives. Their range and charging times make them an unrealistic propositoon for real life long distance driving.

Vehemently against paying subscriptions for anything in a car that you have bought. If you buy a car, you should buy the whole of the car, including the entirety of its functionality. Great review as always Thomas, but not on my lottery win fleet at all.
To me, they nailed the interior. The exterior still doesn’t do it for me! It just doesn’t scream Mercedes. We will see what happens with the revised model in a few years.
I can imagine Mercedes might regret having developed two different S classes. I also can imagine they must have battled quite a bit about this decision internally.
Hey Hans, let's create the fastest depreciating car on the planet! Our recipe is such: a Luxury, German, Sedan. Then we add: Electric. And to top it off, we'll style like a blobfish, ooh and let's not forget the final dorkmobile touch - minivan-style a-pillars. Genius! No we are getting at least 50% depreciation in the first year! Great work Dieter!
I don’t think it’s much a change. I wouldn’t mind having one, but it’s not stunningly gorgeous. I recall the artwork some put out before the EQS’s release and that was a stunning car. Wish they’d have given us that.
The front looks a lot better than the «old» EQS, and the star on the hood is a nice touch in the right direction. Mixed feelings about the design overfall. Mercedes talk a lot about the low Cw-value, but the car is so heavy it still gets crappy consumption. I’d rather have an electric S-class that actually looks good, at the expence of slightly even higher consumption. Cars in this range has never been about being most economic to run, anyways. A friend of mine had an EQE AMG. Half of the cars features were subscription based. Will be fun in the future when Mercedes decides not to support these cars any longer. Really don’t like the way Mercedes is heading. As for your video - really great, as always!
I honestly think that at least expensive, luxury cars should have some (hight quality) real buttons to differentiate from the mass market. The lets-put-displays-everywhere frenzy will be obsolete sooner than later I hope.
EQS and EQE in person look a lot better than on videos and loooot better than BMWs lol i would prefer a longer frunk and some storage there but i think these cars look reeeally nice. i wish they launch a EQC, then wait for depretiation and get it :D
