The ancient zoans have their own will. The nika fruit chose Luffy because of who he is as a person. Therefore it's unlikely that it changed him as a person since the fruit already deemed him worthy enough to be eaten by him. Luffy as a kid and now both still share the same trait that they just say what they think and that they aren't backing down from full on disrespecting someone they don't like. For example luffy talking with big mom in fishman arc. I think that kid luffy was just constantly frustrated because he was never able to join shanks. When now he is living out his dream.

Luffy still believes his fruit is the gum gum fruit, so he has limited his abilities to rubber attacks, even in the newest episodes he has used: Gomu Gomu no: Mole punch Gomu Gomu no: dawn whip Gum-Gum: Dawn rocket Those are just a few examples, he still believes his fruit is the gum gum fruit, if and when he learns he isnt limited to rubber only attacks, Luffy will only be limited by his imagination, anything he can think of he will be able to do. Not to mention luffy has already shown this a few times, after beating bellamy and facing off with doflamingo, In the moment luffy had turned his legs into springs and copied bellamys move to attack doflamingo. another time at punk hazard luffy had used gear 3rd without blowing air into his fist, it had just become huge on its own. There has definitely been a ton of hints leading up to the awakening, especially on Zou franky had a "nika" shirt and the dot on the i was a sun im pretty sure, Once luffy fully grasps his new power, He MIGHT become one of the strongest characters in anime, And he is still growing his power, not to mention he is 19, most other strong anime characters like goku and naruto already have kids and are like 40 or something, which is why i dont like people power scaling and comparing a grown man to a kid, Luffy will become the king of the pirates and become one of the strongest characters in anime.

@@GhostGuy99 I think it makes sense, Sun god nika's physical form had rubber like properties, so the unawakened form of luffys fruit is just taking on the characteristics of the real sun god nika but without his godly powers. Luffy's creativity was what allowed him to come up with things like gear 2nd, 3rd and fourth, But the awakening includes all those things and more and is only limited to the imagination. I find that the most interesting thing of all is that, Each episode getting closer to luffy's awakening you could see his fruit changing in certain ways, whether it was foreshadowing or laziness, in punk hazard luffy used gear 3rd without blowing air into his fist, in dressrosa luffy copied bellamys spring fruit and used his ability, Its even hinted at in Zou arc where franky wears a sun god nika shirt, I would like someone to do a theory on why luffy awakened at his fight with kaido, maybe death was the trigger, meaning luffy reincarnated or was reborn as nika and not luffy, I think its more interesting to understand why and how luffy awakened. Sorry for yapping.

Also thinking back on it, they mentioned that luffy using gear 2nd and 3rd will reduce his lifespan and when ivankov injected him with hormones so he could save ace, he said his lifespan would shorten, Would his death and reincarnation mean that all those consequences are null and void, or will law for whatever reason use his immortality surgery to save luffy, Im just so excited I get to live to watch peak fiction.
