Late to the party but The album 4 Unreleased demos (Monuments, These Buildings Are Burning) and Black Roses are phenomenal. Finch is so good at making excellent melodic music. Add a bit of scream here and there on certain tracks and you couldn’t ask for anything more. Ready for a 4th album. This song is so catchy. Vocals and instruments are incredible. ❤🔥🎶🤘
This is a crazy thought, and late lol... but Finch really does have TWO audiences; the WIITB pop punk fans, and the people who appreciate ALL their work and view SHTS as their peak art... so I really think they should have released these pop songs as part of an EP while ALSO polishing and releasing Phantasma as a record around the same time. Fuck it, play to both sides of what you're good at. It'd be unique. Glassjaw did back to back EPs once with "our color green" and "the coloring book" after all.
Jeez. After reading the description here, it's no wonder Nate didn't want to work with you guys anymore. Least professional statement I've ever read by a band that's accomplished as much as you guys.
+jpdrummer86 Nah. I stick by what I said. Not wanting to be in a band anymore doesn't make someone unprofessional. Complaining about the members that leave is. It's just petty and speaks worlds about why someone would leave in the first place.
Now that they're back together (in 2023, but who knows for how long this time...again!), here is my hope that we get to hear this as well as all the other unreleased gems from PHANTASMA!!! 🤘🤘
I've been to all 3 of their reunion shows so far and going to my 4th next month.. lol hopefully a new album comes out. This is my favorite post WITB song from them. Been listening to it for years now. Hope they play it lol
nate probably just didn't want to go the pop punk route. I agree if thats the case, i love the finch with an edge thats the reason i started listening to them. keep truckin nate!!!
nate posted 9 finch demos from 2015 that sounded way more experimental and visceral than these, I'm guessing their was difference in artistic opinion as considering they were from a year ago they were probably rejected by the others, I can understand why nate left having almost a full album of songs scrapped. I'm backing nate all the way fuck speak the Truth.
Acarlin1887 There is a ton to consider when bands break up. When you decide to make a band your career. You're relying on your art to support your family. When the one person holds out and is stubborn what are the rest to do when bills are to be paid? Just wait for Nate to come around? Any of you realize all the revenu lost with Nate releasing 9 demos? It's a shame, back who you want. But at the end of the day I'll take three opinions over one. I will miss Nate and think he is the best screamer in rock.
well said, I think Nate is extremely selfish. I mean it's incredible to believe that someone that can sing as good as Nate can be so deaf at the same time. It's unbelievable that he can't hear gold when it's there. All I heard with this track was gold, for him to just leave this cause he wants to continue experimental music is completely asinine, he's too old to be beating around the bush with experimental stuff, you leave that stuff to 16 year olds starting bands with nothing to lose in their mom and pops garage, but the other members know this music can monetize great profits. The way Nate treats this, he's not very smart, just not smart at all. I will probably have Nate serving my coffee at starbucks, guys be sure to tip your barista nate so he can support his family when you go. He could've been making serious money using his gifts, but he decided experimental was the best way to keep it real, hope him keeping it real keeps the landlord from knocking on his door.
That still means if he leaves, Finch is not whole. And that's absolutely true here. Just listen to the demos. It's clear the rest of the band had a difference of opinion in what material they wanted to put out. What Nate has made available is far better. Instead the rest of Finch want to make generic wuss rock from the year 2002 with some dude who's most famous for saying he wanted to "do things to princess Di's corpse" at a UK festival. In fact, Finch just isn't Finch anymore, clearly. Oblivion was a sign of things to come. It really seems as if both parties met half way on that thing and Nate never looked fully into it on tour. They will never write anything like SHTS and the EP after, and that is just a damn shame.
I'm sure I'll love what Nate is doing individually as well, but better? That's wholly subjective, and my point was that Nate himself doesn't define the brand, or the music, in the way that Hayley for example, defines Paramore's brand.
Redambergreenband He pretty much does. I think he gets a raw deal when people just consider him as another singer in a band, but his voice is pretty unique. I don't think there's many that would carry off any of the WIITB and SHTS well. And seen as the band aren't interested in making the good stuff and he is, then I would say he is pretty much integral to Finch being Finch. Finch is finished without him. Even the band themselves have said as such.
I hear the change and where it's going and would have loved to hear more. Pretty sure seeing all the Speak The Truth action didn't have Nate too stoked.
Message to Finch: Guys, your band is such a valued thing to me and I know your fans out there scream that fucking thing as well. Your music is great no matter what 'cause Finch will always be great. Message to Nate: Come back to Finch duuuude
Chorus was reworked from the bridge/outro from the original 'Eight Legged Freaks' demo (uploaded by Nate). Can kinda see why he wasn't happy working with the producer. 'Eight Legged Freaks' is a nice Deftones homage; this one though.. Standard alternative rock.
Come on guys, get over yourselves and your differences and get Album 4 recorded for us your fans who've paid for many of your pints over the years, we want to buy you some more pints my dudes! 😂 Some repress of What It Is To Burn vinyls would also be greatly appreciated by us all, your wallets included, considering the current resale price! 😘
Gutted you guys couldn't get a fourth album out. Have loved them all but as people grow up and move on it's understandable that something like writing, recording and releasing an album is a step too far. It's a costly and time consuming process so you've got to all be in it 100% or not at all. Good luck with future projects!
Man I love this song, how can I get an audio version? Glad to pay for it! Would love to see the demo's go up on Spotify or something so I can add them to my playlists.
This takes me back to 2002 Finch! It's got nostalgia, it also shows a more solid direction as opposed to a lot of the change (some good, some bad) in the later records, but the most solid song they have done for a long long time and love it! Shame about Nate as he's an amazing vocalist, but i'm very hopeful that Speak The Truth...', with a more serious vocalist like Buddy will no doubt be an amazing band and maintain all the style and flair Finch had! This tune though :-).
oh man. this is vintage Finch sound. i'm so bummed. You guys were heading in the right direction. I really enjoyed your later stuff too, but this makes me feel 17 again.
I think that's why left, he didn't want "radio hits". If you listen to the demos he posted on his own youtube yesterday, they're much more raw and heavy than these songs, more SHTS than WIITB. Personally, I prefer they're heavier sound and I think Nate does too, but difference of opinion are what caused them to spilt again. Its a shame really, both sides of this scrapped album have so much potential.
The Mighty Bewbs you're right, I've actually download and rearranged the songs adding this and it's a fantastic cd. files.secureserver.net/0svIK3EA9baNqQ Check it out
The Mighty Bewbs You discovered Finch from Letters To You, right? So did I. I don't like SHTS. WIITB certainly had its heavy parts, it wasn't strictly some pop punk record at all. Songs the band wanted to do are much more enjoyable...
This would have been the record that brought you guys back up.... Easily the best since WIITB. Such a shame. This ones been stuck in my head for a week now.
theres a lot of mis information on these posts ,theres way more going on with FINCH than whats been said,Finch was Nates life, rand randy was booted last year and FINCHs post was full of lies and half truths Nate is a worker bee that loves making music dont believe what you read its not true
Honestly I miss the straightforward side of you guys. I get it, I'm a musician too, and most of my favorite bands are the weirder ones. The ones that use weird time signatures, and the ones that don't conform to usual song structures. I've always seen what you guys were trying to do and while I appreciate you trying to do something different, I could just never get into it. There were some good songs on the 2nd album, but you lost me after that. I think you just need to find that balance. I personally think it's harder to write a perfect pop song (let's be honest...WIITB was a perfect pop album front to back for that time and style...how can you top it? you guys nailed it...may as well move forward), than it is to just experiment and be weird because it's entertaining for YOU the musician to play. Like I said, I get it. But most casual listeners (non musicians) need some melodic reprieve. Perfect example... Worms :) SO fucking heavy, and then that melody kicks in and GAWD DAMN but look... This is the Internet, and I just wanted to give my 2 cents that I think are very valid and keep it real. I'm an older hardcore kid and I've been a fan since the EP. Hope you guys can pull it together, cuz Nate's voice is too good over beautiful melodies, and I know you guys can find a way to keep it interesting and unique if you find that balance. Much love!
Great work on these songs guys. I checked out Nates other project, Private Lives...definitely didn't enjoy it as much. I listened to his video about Finch's breakup, something honestly sounds amiss with his story. I suspect it could've ultimately been creative differences. He always wanted to push for more bizarre, experimental sounding music, whereas the band I think wanted to just write something they felt comfortable with. Who knows. But I definitely dig these two songs more than Private Lives. The new stuff with Buddy from SF is pretty dope also.
Any coincidence the band broke up after SHTS? The record was cool but nowhere near as catchy as WIITB. Catchy is good people... if you want to be artsy go form a side project! I respect the band for following what they waned to do and not Nate. They have families... this sound on this song is what drove me to listen to Finch, not the SHTS style. This will sell. Those Nate demos won't... You're not TOOL. Stick to what made you. It's a shitty comparison but look at Panics second album compared to their firsr... break up. Look at Tom's influence on Blink during the self titled album... break up... now they're back to playing pure Blink songs. Anyway, when is GlassJAw coming back?
