Thanks for your generous comments. It was interesting to hear about the introduction of the goldfinch, greenfinch and house sparrow as I was just reading about the introduction of the European blackbird in the 1860s and how well it has established itself in South Australia and Tasmania. Thanks for Sub , I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to checking out your videos.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Yes we do have the hawfinches but they are fairly scarce, I have not seen one yet as they mainly seen in the south-east of England

Thank you Paul, the number of finches visiting the garden this year seem to be down a bit but I'm glad to say that the number green finches is well up after their severe decline a few years ago.

As well as plants that attract the birds it is important to make the general habitat attractive to birds by providing small trees where birds fist alight when entering the garden, small bushes or hedges where they can find easy cover from predators, and open areas of grass, not manicured lawn, some left rough and some lightly strimmed for ground feeders. Also leave a few areas of bare soil. Water in the form of bird baths, small ponds and particularly running water for drinking and bathing is essential. Rowan or mountain ash is one of the best small trees and cotoneaster or pyracantha as hedges or bushes all are good berry providers. Plants that provide seed such as teasel, thistles, knapweed, ragwort, birds-foot-trefoil, and forget-me-not all help to attract birds. From my observations of the spotted flycatcher they like to wait on low perches for flies to settle or pass by so I would suggest something like the herb marjoram, which in my garden seems to attract hundreds of fly, planted in a sunny position close to suitable low perches. I hope some of these suggestions are helpful.

Hi Mike, the chirping in the background is from a colony of about 40 house sparrow. The only time that they are quiet is when the sparrow hawk visits.

Jesus Cristo Reina no it's not this is goldfinch in the UK there is no house Finch in the wild but you could buy it from pet shops

At the minute 11:29 is what I call House Finch. The finches you are showing are simply gourgeous. In South Carolina we have many types of finches but most the ones you showed are not here. I raised and bred many types of canaries in Connecticut and realeased the new born. They flew away in the Summer before the fall. Some people say they cross the atlantic to the canary island. I have many song bird in my area but some of them are not easy to spot.

Jesus Cristo Reina this is called redpoll even in the state I love birds I have Gold finches Canaries and siskins and house Finch

I know they look similar but house finish is much bigger than the redpoll

Had a quick look and think you're seeing the Female Bullfinch.

Male and then female Chaffinch. I find that the female Chaffinch can be mixed up with the female Greenfinch if you only catch a glimpse. Lovely song
