So grateful that there are people that take the time to post these types of videos! You just saved me so much aggravation. I couldn't figure out how I was going to find the source of my air leak, and the first thing I tried, using your method found the leak right away! It was the drain plug. Thank you so much!
Thank you you saved my pool. I am trying to prime my pool for 2 weeks now. I came across your video and found the air leak in 20 second.. It was in the jandy 3 way valve. Now my pool is fully primed. You are the best.
Thank you! Spent several days looking for air leak. This took several minutes to find leak and verify that it got fixed. Went thru same thing last winter. Thanks you again for posting this!!
Wow..this guy just saved me some $$. I knew I had a suction leak somewhere. Ended up having two leaks. One at the lid and one at the inlet pipe where it meets up with a Jandy valve. Easy fix. Thanks!!
Thank you for posting this video! My pool guy made two trips and was unable to locate the air leak. I've spent a few hours myself trying different methods to locate the leak. Found your video and voila, air leak located in one minute. I'm embarrassed to say that it was a badly deteriorated O ring on the strainer pot drain plug. Much appreciated!!
Awesome! Had this issue tonight after opening up for the season. It was also the drain hole that was not tight enough. Made figuring out where the leak was very simple. Thank you!
Omg,This is genius!! I’ve been having bubbles in my basket like that. I tested this on a connection pipe from the pump and the bubbles were very little after a minute of letting water run over the connection joints. That’s amazing!! Thank you!!
Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU. I completely forgot about the pump drain plug and that was the problem. Can't tell you how long a time I had spent checking everything else.
I replaced the pump lid gasket as the usual suspect. Didn't work. Found this video and found a 1/4" gap in an o-ring on a space saver manual valve. Hard to believe that little leak could allow so much air. It didn't leak water because it was on the top side of the o-ring. Took me less than a minute to work back from my drain plug to pump lid to jandy valve to the problem...on the very last valve. Thanks for posting!!
Thank you thank you! I’ve been dealing with a very noisy glass filter and large bubbles coming out of jets for over a year. Company that installed the glass filter said the noise and bubbles were normal. Found your video and in a minute found the air leak! Brilliant!! I now have a quiet filter and no bubbles!!
Dude....exactly what I was looking for. Makes perfect sense. I tried smoke...cling wrap..duct seal to stop air coming in. Never thought of adding water. Genius.
I also want to add to check your spider gasket valve! Make sure your gasket is good, not warped and make sure your screws are tight. That was my problem. Thanks for the video, great way to check for leaks on your pump.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...Same issue with our pool. I found it was our drain plug on pump that was somewhat stripped out and completed your test as mentioned with a water hose and damn!...there it was! Bought a new plug and problem fixed! THANKS!!! 👍👍
How about determine if a valve is leaking in the return side? I have a Jandy 3406 space saver 3 way port and it’s dripping where the union is. Could it be the orings that need replacement? Or does the PVC cement degrade and start leaking over time?!? Thanks!
This idea worked perfectly!! When I put the hose over the lid the air bubbles left. It also kept the water good for about an hour so far. I brought the lid to the store and they said everything looked good so I’m not really sure what the exact problem was but I now know where it is. Maybe the extra water sealed something?? Not sure...
What a genius. The professional pool guys tend to over think the problem. I'm a little slower than the other guys, It took me about 45 seconds to find the problem. An O ring inside a union. Grateful.
After many founds of troubleshooting my basket and return bubbles, I tried the video suggestion, but I still cant find the leak. My dedicated suction line fills the basket fully without the use of hoses. As soon as I attach the hoses, the bubbles begin. Is it my hoses that are creating cavitation?
What do you suggest for cavitation that only occurs during a certain pop up cycle? For example the pump runs perfectly but then when the pop ups begin to cycle it begins to churn and get loud during one specific pop up zone. Once that pop up zone session ends it gets quiet again and no churning. I can't seem how to get it to stop just for the one cycle. Help!
If you have Jandy gate valves on your suction line, check them too. The o-rings under the cover crack over time and allow air into the system. Replaced both valve o-rings and solved the problem.
Thank you. Followed your video with the hose and found that 2 of the 3 junctions from the intake valve were sucking air. Ran the hose over them and the air bubbles disappeared.
I have a leak from the black inlet hose to the pump inlet barb fitting? Any ideas? Is it possible to retrofit a black hose to PVC disconnect? Hard black line is all beat up from years of removing... Thanks
Awesome tips!!! found my leak (around the connection), but know I wonder how to fix it.. (already tightened and o-ring on, guess next step is to buy some silicon lubricant)
I replaced an old gasket and found that I had a HUGE amount of air in the pump. I checked the filter and noticed it was at 20. So I cleaned the filter and put it back and that solved my issue. Also I used a bit of super lube on both the filter gasket and the pump gasket. Thanks for the tip. However, I would add a note to your video to make sure your filter pressure is optimal before starting this.
I wish it had worked for me, I've been trying to find the source of my air for a week now. This method makes perfect sense but didn't help me. I am out of ideas. Can the pump itself cause this problem?
I'm in the same boat. Everything above ground and in front is sealed solid, water test, smoke test, nada. Not finding it. I'm starting to wonder if it could be the gasket between the motor seal plate and the pump housing but that's BEHIND the basket so everyone says that can't be it. I'm also wondering if the sand filter could be introducing air into the system but it doesn't explain air in the basket. Does that mean my issue is underground? Also, on the 3 return lines, one has significant air, one has some air while the 3rd had no air. Go figure
@@morty4185 I talked to the service guy at a pump repair shop where they've done work for me and asked about the lid gasket being the culprit. I have a Hayward 2600 series Super Pump, and he said that's very rarely the problem with that model. I also asked about pump motor seals, etc. causing the problem and was told that air could only get in through the lid or the line(s) back from the skimmer, etc. If I get it solved, I'll post here and trust you'll do the same.
Just tried it and it worked. Turns out I had a leaking o ring on one of the valve actuator handle shafts. It was hard to get to because the auto valve actuator on the top of the valve body was in the way, but when I directed a light flow of water between the actuator and the valve body, the bubbles instantly went away.
I like the fact that people will try to fix the problem themselves, i informed.my.neighbour a week ago the noise is abnormal, next time Ill tell to do that
