Welcome back to the channel! 😀 Join me for the next few minutes as I review this wonderful rose! 💗 Queen of Sweden (Introduced by David Austin in 2004) 🥰
This is the first video in a series of exciting video reviews covering all of the David Austin roses on my property (There's quite a lot! 🤭)🏡
As well as reviewing the roses, I aim to capture and document their unique characteristics which will hopefully help anyone in future; who may be struggling to ID their rose for whatever reason, to compare their ‘entire rose shrub’ with the roses in these videos (not just the blooms) and hopefully more accurately work out which one they have. 🌹🙌🏻😀 Please feel free to share these videos if you know of someone who might be trying to ID a David Austin rose.
Generally speaking I will cover the following characteristics:
- Height and spread of the shrub
- Growth habit
- Disease reaistance and performance in my garden setting
- Leaf: shape, size, colour and surface
- Stem strength, colour and thorn count
- Blooms: pictures from tight bud to full bloom
- Scent
I hope you enjoy the video, there will be many more to come soon! 😃 If you have any suggestions, questions or requests then please leave them in the comments section below - your input and interest is always welcomed 😊
Thanks again for watching, please like and subscribe to the channel to help support future content 😃

What has struck me most about the QoS that I have in a large pot on our decking is its very upright growth - most of my David Austin roses need or benefit from support at some point, but the canes of this rose are compact and mainly close to vertical. - a bit like bamboo. I always imagine them as soldiers on parade for the Queen to inspect. Mine is hitting close to 5 feet tall now. The other thing I find is that with such strong, unbending upright canes the flowers tend to be mainly around the top - for that reason I am considering moving it down to the bed below our decking (which is several feet above the bed) so that we can appreciate the blooms without having to stand on tiptoe. Anyway, thanks for the detailed examination of the rose - it is difficult to remember exactly how each individual rose develops. I hope all your hard work starts to pay off now as the better weather arrives and the roses burst into full colour.

I love your soldiers on parade analogy! 😃😊🫡 They certainly don’t slouch! I did think she would exceed the 4ft and yours just goes to prove this 😀 Good idea re moving her lower down so you can enjoy her blooms - you could also experiment with your pruning in Spring next year, perhaps taking some canes further back than others to give you some height variation in your blooms 🙂 In theory it should work ok 🧐 Still it will be nice to look over your decking and be greeted by these blooms smiling back at you! ☀️🥰 I really enjoyed putting this video together - I just LOVE the transformation of the David Austin blooms (we often focus a lot on the final opened bloom) and so it’s nice to capture the ‘before’ as well. Hopefully the videos will prove useful in future (perhaps when QOS is (god forbid it) retired 😱 I can imagine one day someone having a rose that looks like QOS only that they’re not too sure 😄 (I was like this when we bought this property - there were quite a few DA roses with no ID tags!) Having videos like this back then would have been a real god send for me 😂 Thanks for stopping by again, I’ll have to do some more rose room update videos once everything is fully out (there’s already quite a few open now 🤩 - the scent is just intoxicating, I can’t get enough 😄). Have a lovely week 😃🫶🏻
