Becca Hochanadel the video makes it sound so straight forward forgetting the porosity and hair health plays a big part the video really said “type 4 is thinner more fragile and brittle” 💀 incorrect my type 4 is full thick and healthy
for anyone who has type 2 hair ( a, b or c) , i highly advise you to use sea salt water spray or ocean water, if you can get it naturally. Not only will it reduce the risk of dandruff, but it also tightens your curls and enhances your waves. But if you use normal salt and water, it could be very harmful. Also, dont try to use it everyday or every time you shower. For example, you could use it once whenever you shower. try sleeping on a silk pillowcase instead of a cotton one. It would reduce the frizz and less breakage would occur. when it comes to tying your hair, use scrunchies instead of thin rubber bands. if youre drying your hair, try using a microfiber hair towel or a t-shirt, if you dont have such towel. the t shirt would prevent frizz and absorb excess water. use hair milk if you have one. it provides moisture for your hair. lastly, eat fruits and veggies more often. oranges and grapefruits are some fruits that decreases the risk of frizz, and drink water every 2 hours or so. *EDIT*: i hope you try these hacks one day and leave your opinions about it on the comments! Also, rectify me if i have made any mistake or if the suggested tips are incorrect. Have a nice day!!
My mom has 1b and my dad has 2b. I ended up with a mix of straight hair and majority 2a and 2b types of hair on my head. The front part is pretty straight, and the back is wavy. Very hard to style all my life. Was worse when I was younger when I had 3x the amount of hair that was actually 3a curly. As I got older the hair has lost most of the curl. I’m planning to grow my hair long and braid it. That weight will pull it down and keep it tame. I’ve had short and medium hair styles that were messy chic. I’m tired of the messy look.
Tori Jones by washing they means using shampoo, still use conditioner and hydrate your hair as well as use some organic oils. Just use shampoo once every two weeks.
i have 4c hair and im not going to lie. it's easy to take care of. let me explain: you can wash it once a month or once every 2 months. styling is a constant thing that save you time and time. i've learned the less manipulation the happier the hair in turn makes you a happy camper.
Anyone in the 4 group - DO NOT COMB, BRUSH OR MANIPULATE YOUR HAIR TOO MUCH. "Fragile" is why it seems hard to grow because it breaks from just air blowing it too hard 😂 Combs and brushes destroy our hair - you can hear it ripping. I stopped, just steam my hair daily via shower, throw on my fav hair butter, and seal with oil. I have a big 4B-4C fro with mid back length hair when pulled 😅 I was protective styling but could not figure out why it wasnt growing despite moisturizing. Our hair breaks so easy - our ancestors used mud for a reason - our hair is not designed to hang nor really be touched at all. It compiles onto its curly self to be in a *fixed* state to keep the sun and vermin out. We were taught to "tame" it - but it is already tamed.
3b, but I already knew that, as a stylist! I prefer it flat ironed for photos, or pulled up! It tends to look like a triangle otherwise. Some professional tips as a curly girl: Never let terrycloth touch your hair. Always use an old t-shirt or microfiber to absorb wet hair. Use a squirt bottle on days you don’t shampoo and some leave-in conditioner. These are my best hair days! I don’t let shampoo touch my hair, I use co-wash which is a cleansing conditioner. Cool/cold air is THE best on curls as it helps that cuticle stay down. Best of luck, Curly girls! ❤
@@LeahMcNabbsame. I'm not really sure why mine does that though. It's like it's curly on the outside but underneath it's wavy and almost completely straight. Like I said I don't know why, it could be genetics or it could be from me straightening it so much as a young teenager and literally burning my hair. I just do everything that she said and put gel in my hair. It usually does the trick but I'm still not getting the form that I want
Hardest thing about seeing these beautiful 4’s is waiting to grow out the chemical relaxer in my hair right now. The relaxed hair on top of the new growth just makes a textured mess and hits you with unnatural tangles. Going back to my roots, literally 😂
@@carlamartinezmangas4112 4c hair are very tiny coils, so small you can't see the curl definition, you will have to be up close & personal to see them and they strink up a lot more.
Fun fact: Type 1A is hair that has baby-fine, completely straight strands. This type is straight from root to tip. Typically, type 1A hair has little to no body and has a difficult time keeping a curl. This hair type is actually pretty rare .There are different types of naturally straight hair, from fine and thin to thick and coarse, with pros and cons for all the ways hair can be straight-and yes, we're even talking about hair that's straightened using styling tools and products
I have this hair. It's flat. No matter what I do to it, it's flat. It's also kind of brittle. You can put it in a ponytail or braid like they said, but it WILL fall out. If you have this hair, grow it long as you can and just have straight shiny flat hair with no volume at all. It's for the best trust me. Also, bangs are NOT your friend.
1a is more common in Northern Europe. Asia has billions of people with 1c hair. The hair there is so straight that short hair cuts have the hair stick straight out of the skull. And the hair is not baby fine. Each strand is thick. Northern Europeans have fine straight hair. Asians have thick straight hair. I’m Asian and my mom has 1c hair and my dad has wavy 2b hair. My brother and I have both 2a and 2b hair on our heads. My sister has 1b hair. The most obvious sign of Asian straight hair is that it never frizzes even in the most humid weather. It is stubbornly straight. If it frizzes or changes shape, it is not Asian but has the baby fine European hair characteristics.
Ikr. I always want my hair to be long but then it always shrinks and then i have to blowdry it everytime i wash it. But then the heat damages my hair too so there goes my dreams of long hair.😥☹️😭😭
@@ruesopher5152 jealous of what exactly? There are disadvantages to type 4 hair but we own it. Same can be said for all the other types. I don't know what you're on about.
Between 2 b and 2c, i just love them because i can literally do whatever i want with it, i can take the curly hair look or just get a straight look, thats just a blessing
I knew when I saw this channel was “teaching” hair types I knew it was going to be inaccurate which is why I clicked the video and went straight to the comments. 😆
"Type 4. .....its your turn" 😂😂 nothing says comedy like a chippery white woman talking about black women's hair"😂😂😂. She really took her life in her hands lol
My hair is completely different when I’m not using conditioner. I remember it being so frizzy when I was a kid. It flips in or out at the ends (not in a cute beach way). The strands are thin, but I have massive amounts of it. I’m truly considering shaving the back.
They gave so much false info on type 4 hair, First regular towels when trying to dry ur hair makes it fuzzy and if your going for the CURLY look air dry it.....
While the classification of hair types does a decent job to figure out wash, condition, and best styling products for hair, it flops the moment you own more than a single hair type or texture. More important, hair products to support a specific result on the hair type may quickly work in another fashion and or require further processing on an alternate texture....The moment you include frizz into the equation- some hair types never experience frizz- hair becomes far more complicated than it seems.
@@christinalim2320 u never brush curly hair, ever. U can take a comb to it to detanglr when its wet but never brush ur curly hair, especially when its dry
U can't get offended when it's true. Our hair takes time to detangle and a comb isn't just gonna go through it easy which is why wigs are used cause wig wearers say it's more manageable and easy to deal with
To be honest, your information for 3 and 4 hair types in totally off... you shouldn't be washing your hair too often as it is, and cool air dries out your ends. Using certain products also damages hair....
Lilo Kivesh 4c hair is wayyyyyy thicker than what the example showed us. It’s like an Afro but very coily. Your right they have no idea about 4c hair, neither 4a or 4b. Those examples had 3b and 3c type hair .
I was trying to figure why these examples are so off. I’m 3c/4a and my hair type wasn’t even displayed. 4a in this example seemed like 4b and 3c seemed like 3b. Andre Walker didn’t even mention type 4c curls in his book
The thing about Asian straight hair (because there are rare ones with waves and curls…I am one of them with 2a and 2b) that is different is that Asian straight hair never frizzes even in humid weather. Just never changes its shape whether, dry, wet, semi-wet. Also, each strand of hair is totally straight, including the little hairs near the hairline. A lot of Caucasians I see with straight hair have wavy baby hairs or ends that curl. Also Asian straight hair is a bit thicker stranded and has a smooth shine. In the shade it is black but seen thru the sunlight it can have a red or orange tint. This is something I notice doesn’t exist in other races with naturally black hair.
Ah, I think I must be 1C, I've had so many hairdressers over the years tell me I have "Asian" hair (my ancestors were Italian, Dutch and black Irish, which is actually Spanish). Can't hold a curl, not even when I got a perm back in the 70s! Definitely agree with the "cascade" hairstyle suggestion.
I’m a 2a!! Loads of people ask me why i don’t style it often but it is a NIGHTMARE!!! if I wear it down for less than an hour it clumps up and becomes a crazy knotty mess!! Very hard to look after but gorgeous if you know what your doing. Pros to my fellow 2a’s!!
For the 4th hair, the most curly and short one. I felt like the discluded it. All they said was: “greatest shrinking, very hard to comb, more to take care of ” all the other hair types got attention. Especially the straight hair :(
I’m sorry but you see a lot more style options with straight hair it’s always been that way in the western world anyway for example African women with hair such as 4C may style it there own way and it would only apply to people with that hair type not the rest of the world I’ve also spoken to many black people who would agree their hair can be very hard to style and that’s coming from myself who’s a 3C
4 group hair... don’t ever listen to this person and dry your hair with a towel 😒 you will dry out your ends And cause breakage... dry with a T-shirt or air dry is best... thank me later
HILARY ANN NICOLAS BRUH. We will never know that’s it’s a white person🤦🏾♀️ But definitely has no experience....or has been doing it wrong. But color doesn’t have a voice.
I don’t feel like the type 3 (any of them really) were accurately represented in these short examples. If you’re a POC don’t take this video too seriously lol
So, I figured out how a way easier and less time-consuming way to find out your hair type. Step 1: Find a mirror. Step 2: Look in the mirror. You’re done!!
I have 1A hair and I agree 100% that it is super soft and shiny, but it has ZERO volume, gets oily very quickly and it doesn't hold a curl for anything. 😭 I wish I could style it but it just won't hold no matter what I do to it. 💔
How is a cartoon with an afro specifically white, or yes, not white, for that matter? He actually is represented pretty well to me. I'd bet it is a stock image, maybe the choices were very limited. If anything, I could agree that the lack of choices is the, uh, root, of the problem. OK, had to have some "dry" humor.
I disagree with lumping all the #1 hair types together when giving care advice. Type 1A is _drastically_ different than type 1C. As someone with thick, coarse 1C hair, I have only ever found two stylists out of dozens that actually knew what they were doing with my hair texture. Volume is something I already have naturally, and I do NOT want more of it--in fact, I always have my stylist thin out my ends, otherwise my hair poofs out. Also, my hair can hold curls without product for two days. Sounds like the only hair types this video knows anything about are 1A and 2A.
1a hair should have two thicknesses. Baby fine and limp, and thick stranded. Maybe yours is thick stranded so it adds to the volume. Also if your hair changes shape in any way on its own or frizzes in humidity, then it is not actually straight but has traits of 2a and 2b. I have 2a and 2b hair on my head. My sister has 1a and it is stubbornly straight. No humidity changes her hair whatsoever. Or maybe your hair is between 1 and 2. Just my thoughts, maybe I’m totally wrong.
I’d advice you to use castor oil 100% organic. it helps with frizzy hair, damaged hair, hair loss, it helps your hair grow much faster. But don’t use it too much. Use it 2-3 times a week and massage it in your hair it’s best to sleep with it or you can wash it after one hour. But use sulfate free shampoo because the ones that do contain sulfate can cause frizzy hair or hair loss
@@michellelyston8566 I thought they were implying the damaged hair was leaving. Like hold up, why was my damaged hair still with me when I did the big chop?
Yup I love silicone mix but I don't dry it I put it in to 4 plaits then I wear a thing on my head it's like a shower cap but the material of a headscarf then I let air dry
2c-3a type. I was told by a stylist to wash in shampoo but not condition, then allow to air dry without combing or brushing in anyway, to find your hair type.
WROOOOOONG!! The 3 and 4 categories were ALL wrong. You used 2C hair and called every type of 3 hair. Then you called 3C and 4A hair every type of 4 hair. Please see actual black people when typing our hair. Andre Walker did it correctly. You did not. With love. 🙏🏽❤️
Anyone can have any type it's not your type I'm white and a guy, I was just curious to what hair type I had because I'm struggling to style it I think I'm 3B or 3C, so no this video was helpful
*me having no idea what type of curls I have watching this for answers* my questions haven’t been answered. My day is ruined and my disappointment is immeasurable.
@@saulsateam or 2a and 3b at the same time 🤸♂️ I have way different curls all over, and after watching the video I still don't know which tips to follow haha

Type 3 now but had type 1& 2 throughout my younger years. Grew out my hair in high school and it became super curly for reason. 3c hair and the curls sometimes look like it just came off a perm press literally perfect tunnels it’s nutty.
The easiest to take care of is obvious 1. My sister has 1a and she just gets up and go. She doesn’t even have to comb her hair. It NEVER knots. She gets a trim now and then and that’s it. She goes swimming in the pool, shampoos it, then let’s it air dry by itself. Zero maintenance. Beyond 1, it is all increasing maintenance from there unless you go for a buzz cut.
My hair doesn’t fit into any of the categories; I think type 5 must exist somewhere. I’m a native South African and I think the hair types classification doesn’t go as far as Afro; there’s definitely a type 5 hair. 😊😊
im so confused. my hair is generally thick. my hair is curly and wavy underneath and straight on top. when i wash it and brush it out when it’s dry it gets super frizzy! what hair do y’all think i have?
None of the examples off Andre’s chart were correctly depicted/shown,especially the curly hair models. This was a fail. Try again Brightside...Try again.
Why? She isn't saying straight hair is perfect, she was talking about hair that is completely straight, so perfectly straight hair means hair that is straight like a string. "Perfectly" is an adverb, not an adjective! I feel so offended by your comment honestly
Laureen Light even though I agree with you can people just not listen to a video and not get offended. Nothing about this video was offensive and nothing about her comment was offensive. Two misunderstandings. Case closed.
So far from this, I think my hair is like across the 3 and 4 spectra depending on which section I grab. And my hair doesn't look awesome from just letting it go after I wash and add oil/leave-ins. Probably because it's obvious that it's like multiple different types.
For #4 they literally used the same pictures of the same hair type over and over again 🤦🏾♀️ like I’m 4c and the picture they showed was a person with 4a-4b. hair not accurate at all 🤭
