Find the PERFECT Paper to Save Your Brush Pens! 

If only the watercolour artists would learn this precious lesson; watercolour paper today is often rougher than 100 years ago, and it kills expensive fine hair brushes quite quickly.

Great explanation. I was so confused by this when I first started lettering. Now I swear by the 32 paper. It also works really well for printables for scrapbooking or junk journaling, which is something I combine with lettering. Mixing it with cardstock in a junk journal provides great texture variety & makes the whole thing brush pen friendly.

Thanks for this video.Your timing was very lucky for me. I found this video after a web search led me to your blog. The site I was trying to buy the oft-touted HP 32-lb. paper from was out but had Xerox 32-lb. paper. After seeing this video, I ordered the Xerox. Unlucky for numerous people, however, was that the delivery truck broke down. I hope to get the paper soon (and that nothing more urgent for someone else was on that truck). My tracing paper was delivered separately. It's not one of the brands you listed on your blog, but it's also 25 lb. like those and seems smooth to the touch. Now I can use my Rhodia less, and I have an expert suggestion for card stock in the future. Thanks again.

Hey Amanda! I have always used HP Premium 32! its really smooth! personally, I don't think its changed, and its much cheaper compared to the Xerox paper!!!

Hobby Lobby has a marker pad $12 for 100 pages and the pages are perforated. I use it to practice or doodle with my markers. The Tombow dual brush pens won’t bleed, but the ABT Pro alcohol based markers will. When Hobby Lobby has a sale or 40% off coupon, then well, it’s hard not to go crazy there.

Amanda, are you advising to use one of these papers when you use the Tombows for lettering, or also for coloring? I do a lot of times make a copy of a page from a coloring book to a certain paper,depending what medium I’m using. I was thinking to use watercolor paper for the Tombows,but even the hot press I don’t think it’s smooth enough. This is very good information, I don’t do lettering,just coloring.

I'm from the UK and want to find a smooth printer paper like the hp premium 32 I dont really want to use notepads I just want loose paper and alot of it to practice on so if anyone knows any UK smooth printer paper please reply !

Hello Amanda! I've been looking around for paper options that seem good but can't find any of the ones you mention. I have to say that I live in a country where no one besides high school girls seem to care about stationery, so it's hard for me to buy stuff. I found the Paper One Digital that runs about $4.8 for 500 pages, and it looks quite good. I head another person recommend the paper, so I think I'll try it out. However, of the same brand there is Paper One Copier, which is loads cheaper for my (very) limited budget of a person who doesn't work. I don't know if you've used it before, but please look it up and tell me what you think, this would help me greatly. Thanks, Bi.

Are all these papers you are using available in India?

I found a card stock that has one side smooth , it gives a little shine when held under light . Is this right card stock? It is a different local company as Superfine company is not available here.

Can we use watercolour paper ?
