Heavy weights/ powerlifting style training transformed my body. But over the last 3 years I’ve increased the volume of my heavy training, and I’m scared to stray. I do know I need to change it up and reduce my volume, I really needed to hear this today. I took a leap of faith and bough Muscle Mommy, I’m one week in. I’m scared because it’s lighter weight and wayyy less volume, but I am trusting the process
A strategy I've adopted is forcing a strict cut-off timelimit of an hour at most. If you're doing 2-3 worksets per exercise and taking full 2-3 min rest periods between sets, an hour tends to ensure optimal volume.
At 47 I've spent the last 30 years not listening to my body and telling it be quiet and go harder. 💪🙈. Recently though under your advice I have reduced my training to two quality sessions of anabolic a week combined with walking and stretching. The results are amazing and me and the body are back together and getting on great.😍 Keep up the great content. Thank you from wales🏴 in the UK.
I'm absolutely obsessed with this show! ❤ So much gold! 🎉🎉🎉 Been training for 25 yrs & 16 yrs in my own business. I can relate to everything you guys talk about. Grateful 🙏 I found you guys! ❤
Yay Maps Aesthetic! I’m 53, recovering from a long illness and just found you guys. I got MAPS 15 to get myself back into action and it has been awesome!
Excited to have had my question answered by the guys (QUAH #4)! I believe that “being a listener of Mindpump” is an excellent prerequisite for finding a good trainer. 😃 Keep the great content coming, guys!
I finally hear this. I had to finally admit I need to go down in weight for biceps because 1) I am imbalanced, 2) for a month I have noticeable pain in my forearm for days after working my weaker arm. -- which tells me I'm actually doing too much because I'm fairly confident my form is good.
Just found you guys earlier this week. I love the message and am looking forward to trying a program in the future in the mean time though listening and watching you has been a game changer love it.
I truly love you guys. I listen to you guys literally all day in my ear. You guys have really changed my mindset in how I train and diet. Thank you sooo much for pouring so much into your audience❤❤❤
After few months of listening to your podcast, I have bought a Maps muscle mummy. I used to exercise 5 x per week, mix of cardio, bootcamp, hiit and strength training. I am 2 weeks into the training, feeling like I am doing nothing. I hope it will change, but as I was used to sweat much more, not sure if it is for me. I hope it is just in my head and it will work. I will update you in 10 weeks. 😊
I’m always blown away by the insightful and engaging conversation on this podcast. The hosts’ passion and expertise are contagious, and I feel inspired to take control of my fitness journey and make meaningful progress. Thank you for creating such a valuable resource for people like me.❤ keep up the fantastic work, and I look forward to tuning in to future episodes!🤗🥰❤🙏
My son was so sensitive and cried a lot as a young child but somehow ended up being so outgoing and tough by middle school. He plays sports , works out, loves fishing and airsoft. I don’t know why it switched. Love your show.
I’m 53 and have been training for a year. I’ve just started my first bulk. I haven’t tried any of your programs and have just put a routine together through trial and error and watching videos. I will trial cutting out a couple of things after watching your video.
I'm one of those women who bought my first program (mind pump muscle mommy). Liking it so far! Just great timing with me listening to the podcast this year and getting serious about gains. Muscle mommy dropped right around the time I started hitting my protein goals
So hard to get this message through my head. Thanks Mind Pump for continuing to repeat the message over and over that more is not more. You guys are the best!
Can you guys do a podcast going more in depth on at home workouts? Dumbbells only? A lot of people only have this as a starting point especially stay at home moms so I think it would be very insightful for many!
Great timing. Due to my. Spine and leg. Numbness / Pain at present. Just a good hour at gym. Each morn. I done ✅ 1:35 1:36 1:36 1:36 1:36 1:37 1:37 1:37 1:37
I’m new to your channel. Love this topic I have a baby and 5 year old and I use to powerlift but now I’m only training 4 days a week and still getting awesome result. I feel like I was always over training so I relate to this topic so much. I’ve been learning so much from your podcast . Thank you
That was like when I quit eating Pop-Tarts and cereal many many years ago and then one day tried to eat a Pop-Tart and I could feel the chemicals burning in the back of my neck and that strawberry did not taste like strawberries. Reminded me of how some grandmother's have claimed that their grandchildren don't like fruit because it doesn't taste like fruit. Like a bag of grapes don't taste like grape flavor or a container of strawberries do not taste like strawberries. Kids these days have no idea what real food is
Love fractional plates! I work with lots of seniors and I have an 85 year old who now deadlifts 116 lbs - we are now adding ~1 lb per week and she continues to improve.
Great timing for this. Because of my injury’s. I bought back my workouts at present And. To be honest. That’s ok. I need to focus on my spine and legs. So yes I’m. Enjoy this podcast
I’ve been doing a 5 day split for the past 9 months. I track my weights & have definitely gained strength & muscle. Outside of this I walk daily. I do listen to my body and add in an additional rest day if needed. I love the 5 day split & I’m really nervous to try something different. I’m currently trying a small deficit after spending time at maintenance calories. I’m definitely not where I would like to be physique wise, but I’m really hesitant to try something different, actually nervous. I’m in this lifestyle for the long haul after years of inconsistency. I guess my question is are 5 day splits not effective or the best program for me? I’m 49.
People always want to increase their volume, but you have to be will to incrementally decrease for stages of time as well. Your optimal volume may be less. And you may not discover the optimal until you hit the spot where the gains slow or cease. At that point you know you have to go one stage up or maybe two for the optimal.
Love the show. You guys are hysterical and super informative. 52 year old avid golfer. Trying to decide between MAPS Anabolic and Starter Bundle. Any recommendations one way or the other.
Been trying to find an answer to this question and hoping y'all can help. Do compound movements count toward total weekly volume for all the muscle groups they hit? For example, let's say I am trying to do 15 sets per muscle group per week? If I do dips, would that count toward 5 sets of shoulders, chest, and triceps? If I do 5 sets of chin ups, would that count toward back and biceps? Basically I am trying to spend less time in the gym so wanna be as efficient as possible.
Couldn't overreaching and then scaling back give the appearance that less is more? For example, if you've been doing 5x5 and then you scale back to 3x5, you may feel that you're getting stronger faster, but it was the 5x5 that gave you the foundation and allowed a peaking affect.
My daughter kept telling me to stop comparing myself to young women online and that I need to come to the realization that I'm in my mid 50s and if she heard say one more how tired I was feeling when I got home she going to kill me lol
Not trying to be as negative as this is going to sound but the guys discussing Supersize Me and apparently not knowing any of the details about how problematic the results were was really surprising. They’re usually up on this stuff. Spurlock admitted that he was a functioning alcoholic who was beginning to experience liver failure at the time, completely stopped exercising and wouldn’t share his final diet results. It hasn’t been able to be replicated with similar results so his alcoholism likely colored the results quite a bit.
The Super Size movie guy was an idiot. He claimed he was eating 5,000 calorie diet, BUT never released a food diary. He simply went on a binge to sell tickets.
Adam, laughing at the 2.5 lb plates is the most ignorant thing I’ve ever heard you say. The proper way to progress though a hypertrophy plan is to start week 1 at 3 RIR, then add 5lbs each week to decrease RIR and then deload on week 5. Then the next mesocycle you start 5lbs more than you did on week 1 of the previous mesocycle if it’s still a 3 RIR. Adding a quarter is just ridiculous old school steroid head nonsense. I’m honestly surprised to hear you say that. Sal was a little more on point
The spinning vehicle is VERY practical. I ran into a crime scene in Downton LA two days ago on the way home in traffic. They roped off 4 square blocks. Most people had to just bust a U-turn including myself.
Love love the show, the podcast also. I listen to podcasts while at work, and try to watch the shows when at home. I'm a 3 year fan, and started taking your advice last spring. After hearing strength training helps with anxiety, my daughter suffers from extreme anxiety and it was effecting her athletic performance of running in school, I told let's go to the gym and start lifting, we would go two times a week to the gym, and still go and she is doing great and her attitude has changed so much. She's even told me that she felt the best ever in all her 4 years in highschool while doing athletics. Thanks guys. 🙏Y'all so awesome. I'm thankful I started listening to y'all 😁
