Great thing talking about tonal differences. 90% of the time people will only focus on determining voice types and not care too much about tonal “textures”, so they all end up like “you have a high voice, you’re this, you have a low voice, you’re that” That was kind of a big problem for me when i started working on my voice, i couldn’t find the proper way to work on it, since I have a naturally high pitch, but with a raspy dark tone, then i couldn’t differentiate if i was a baritone or a tenor. Again, great job on bringing that up, amazingly done as always, Tara.
@evac.7762
@evac.7762 4 года назад
I have a question right up at the the top asking about this: highish pitch, darker tone. I think you just answered it! :))
@DorotaGabal
@DorotaGabal 4 года назад
Exactly the same, except I am a soprano. I struggled to identify my voice type. As a teen, I sang with the altos, and I have a darker, warmer tone to my voice, and it seems almost as if I were singing lower, so I assumed I'm a mezzo. But my register changes line up with soprano, and when I've experimented, what seems to me like it's quite low is actually rather high in pitch, when you compare it with notes.
@XxQueenChristinaxX
@XxQueenChristinaxX 4 года назад
@@DorotaGabal That means your tessitura (best and comfort range) is higher or in the Soprano type. Don't use Alto choir parts to type yourself, a lot do that but the truth is that every female voice type sings Alto. For me it's not even low but I'm more comfortable with that range than the upper, and I also sang Soprano as well. Sopranos come in Light Lyric, Full Lyric, Coloratura, Soubrette, Spinto, Dramatic...the type goes from bright to dark and light to heavy. So it can be tricky.
@DorotaGabal
@DorotaGabal 4 года назад
@@XxQueenChristinaxX Than you for your feedback, much appreciated. What subcategory of soprano I would be I have no idea, as I don't really sing classical when I do sing. Swing is where it's at for me. A friend who does opera says I have a dramatic kind of sound to me, but I'm not sold. What I know I'm definitely not is coloratura. I have power, but not agility. I don't have perfect pitch, but testing with at least a guitar tuner, where my tessitura is is the higher 4th, and most of the 5th.
@jaquilward840
@jaquilward840 4 года назад
Same here I have like a high pitch with a dark tone and my range was weird for a tenor and baritone.. like I’m comfortable singing from d#2-A4

i've been messing with my voice the last 2 years and notice a difference. my tuner doesn't really go lower than a C2 but i've reached up to G#5. I am a Bass singer from what i've been told with a booming voice. Went to Karaoke one night and my friend heard me sing for the first time and she told me that i was holding the mic almost 2 feet away from my face because of how *BOOMING* my voice was.

Whenever I listen to Michael Bolton's '90s songs, I get frustrated because his voice sounds so deep and low and raspy but also high at the same time! This has been bugging me for YEARS. Can you help me with this issue? How would you characterise his voice?

@d_alessandro
@d_alessandro 4 года назад
I’ve seen a video talking about Michael Bolton, claiming he is a spinto tenor. It made sense to me once the video explained so basically it means he sings as high as a tenor would, but his voice gets darker depending on the output. A spinto soprano, so you can compare, would be Whitney Houston. Since it isn’t a very common type of voice, it can be very frustating trying to determine fachs and stuff, but hope that helps. The rasp however doesn’t have anything to do with fachs, it’s just his voice though

Do you have a video on how to connect your words when singing? I’ve watched your videos on engaging the core but can you give an example with a couple phrases. When I’m doing wide open opera like vocals I’m fine but when it’s time to enunciate and say words my breath support is gone. I have a bird like tone and can do ahs and ous all day. But I can’t connect actual words with as much breath support.

(Question at the bottom of post 😆) So... I don't sing much, as it drives my parents insane, and I don't get a lot of time alone. But I do sing along whenever we watch Disney movies. I do write lyrics and the few times I get alone, I do sing. But not very often around people unless I'm super comfortable with them, or we're all being weirdos (Singstar, Just Dance, etc) But as inspiration strikes, or you happen to be in the mood, you can't ignore it. So I often find myself singing quietly. Not nervous quiet or whisper quiet, but just quiet. And I have found that often my register is a lot higher with a lot less effort than if I belted out at a normal or higher/louder tone... and I want to know why. Why can I reach higher notes when I sing quieter? When singing at normal volume or louder, I am a chest voice heavy singer with vibrato (even in songs that don't have it). Does that have something to do with it?

There are mistakes in the definition of voices and well-known artists. You won't believe me, but contralto owners are: Ariana Grande, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, Jojo, Britney Spears, Madonna, Demi Lovato, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Hudson, Nicole Scherzinger, Beyonce, Rihanna ... that only contralto can sing ... In a low androgynous timbre, they could sound through the resonance point in the hard palate while singing. (I used google translator from russian)
