Miniaturist Journal 53. I found a cheap lot of 18th century miniature porcelain at an auction. Perfect for my canal house!

Ha ha yes a chip is certainly acceptable for something so old😉. Makes you wonder who in the past has been delighted with these little vases. If only they could talk!

Oh, if only! I think about the time they were made in China, using old techniques, then shipped over here in large sailing trade ships, then arrived here to be sold, for a dollshouse? Who knows. The whole process must have taken a year or so. Fascinating stuff.

I had not thought of putting flowers in the vase. Haha! Which is odd as it is a vase after all. I merely thought of them as decoration. Good idea. Thank you!

Were these made for collectors cabinets ? I don't think that they were made for dollhouses, maybe wrong. I remember buying a job lot of tiny vases, mostly not nice as in amongst them was a tiny treasure. A friend sent me 20 kilos of dollhouse stuff she retreived from someone garage and it was 90% horrible but in the middle was some 18 th century style, old, porcelaine, gorgeous but chipped as if some child had played with it. Another day on running for my train in Paris I passed an antique stall in a street fair and spotted a tiny gorgeous vase and couldn't resist but the man said it was worthless and gave it to me. I gave him 2 euros all the same to his surprise! Recently I bought for one euro the tiniest cloisonné vase I've ever seen, some months before I found a tiny cloisonné bowl for ten cents. I used to love receiving my packages when I was making my dollhouse. Now I'm trying to get the real house in order firs but I miss it so YOU are here to satisfy that craving, thank you xo

Hi Stephany, Yes, I think they were made for collectors' cabinets. But who knows, there was also a large market for dollhouses in those days. Those accidental finds are fantastic and at those prices you can't resist! Once you've finished your real house (well, is it ever?), you've got all of your tiny treasures waiting for you to be rediscovered.

@@MakeMiniatures I got on so well with my house after taking time to adapt my hands to such small work. The first little chair I sanded just dissapeared ! My house is on hold since I moved real house but finances will push me to going back and making 'roomboxes' to make some cash. I have many ideas as they will all represent some place or decor, a shell grotto, a Swedish manor house, a garden room with trellis etc. Trying to work out the dimension as I would like them mostly to be the same size so they can stack or line up. I will work in 1:12 as my stock of items is of that scale and maybe some 1:10 scale will have to see what works best for each box. Best wishes xo
