Good day Blake! Love trout fishing, it's probably been my favourite overall. These are great tips, we have similar info available in BC. I'm not opposed to hatchery fish but wild is more satisfying to catch IMO. WooHoo! Summers here, finally!

My biggest complaint about western Washington lakes is the lack of shore access, the majority of them have homes built around them you need a boat and when you don't have one your stuck with the boat launch which usually full of cars and other bank anglers so there is no room. The other issue I have is that the State seems content to just plant rainbow trout when a lake needs help. Many lakes have other species such as sunfish but it's been my experience that they are stunted fish the lone exception is bass they usually are fine. I would like to see more effort by the State to improve fishing by creating more crappie fisheries they are a popular fish in the South and practically every where else they are planted . Those fish should sustain themselves without that much help, although I know of several lakes the populations have all but disappeared , I have brought this up to the State twice and both times they just brushed it off no interest. There is another lake close to my heart is Little Cranberry lake in Anacortes it's part of the city forests. The State says there are Coastal Cutthroat trout as well as Crappie, Perch and Bass and some bull head catfish. I have fished that lake for over 30 years I have never seen a Cutthroat trout taken from that lake. My friends father who is in his late 80's has said many times that the State has been claiming that Cutt's are in that lake when he was a small boy he never saw one or knew anyone who had seen one. The Crappie are all gone and he said they were once prolific big one 's ! the Blue gill someone put in there without the States approval and the Perch are all tiny just the bass seem healthy but small. Any way just putting my two cents I wish they would do more, planting trout only goes so far having a warm water fishery worth you time the State has no interest in doing anything else.

@WAFishQuest

Hello! Yes and no. Some lakes are open the fourth weekend April thru October. Some lakes are open year round. Rivers are all over the place depending on what native species lives in 'em. Our regs book is supppppeer thick.
