Should have gone for Devonshire place. A basement, with its own entrance and a patio for the cat. Lovely bathroom etc. Perfect.

I’m glad her offer was refused. With a collapsed ceiling, water stains and wet to the touch walls, it would likely have been a money pit. Mind you if she held onto it it would be worth a ton more in 2020.

Exactly. With the amount of water damage that could’ve been a gut rehab! The cost could’ve been upwards of 15,000 pounds. I’m just guessing but if the electrical needed to be redone, walls ripped out, the entire ceiling redone, we’re talking some significant money. And furthermore she couldn’t have accomplished the work until the building itself was sealed otherwise it would just lead to the same problem. That apartment was a total nightmare. I can’t believe they didn’t steer her away from it.

a flat in that building sold for 320k recently. even if she spent 20k over the years fixing problems it would have been a solid investment.

Never buy a damp property ... it will make you sick.
@mattneillninasmom

You've only to look at the state of the building's exterior to see the owners haven't kept it up - outside OR inside. Damp walls after the flat's just been painted, means the roof is leaking down behind the walls as well as coming through the ceiling. Major neglect going on here. Count on sick-making mold as well.

I'm looking at this type of property in Brighton, you're looking at 300-350k for these in 2022. Makes me feel a bit sick at just how lucky home buyers were 20 years ago. My brother was one of them and he lives in a dream world about buying a new property today

Hello. This is a real long shot but I’m hoping someone can remember this: I am searching for a Location, Location, Location episode featuring a couple looking to move to a place in the South. From memory it was a smallish village somewhere above Brighton (ish). I distinctly remember they were looking to move there as the schools were fantastic and Phil wholeheartedly agreed. Does anyone remember this episode and the name of the place they were looking to move to? Many thanks in advance of your help!

She dodged a bullet there with Marine Parade. Service charges plus major works needed by the look of the front etc.

A £1000 pounds are u crazy! Time to get back to planet earth.

Agreed, Shereen! It might have cost £1000 twenty years ago when this was filmed, but if this happened in the sitting room the entire roof probably needs replacing, along with all of the ceiling joists and framing which will also be saturated with damp. She should NEVER buy this flat. Endless problems down the road. A definite money pit.

@@muskndusk The asking price for this flat in 2021 is apparently £480,000! What a difference two decades makes. I would have bought the suite with the bathroom next to the kitchen. It was a great size and had outside access from the kitchen. The top floor flat has a nice view but you’d have to go to the beach for some fresh air.
