Joan of Arc Died May 30, 1431, Rouen, France. It is a commemorative medal. She was canonized May 16, 1920; feast day May 30; French national holiday. That medal could be over a hundred years old and would be one of the original minting's made of silver. Nice find! Sorry to hear about Simons slip and fall - speedy healing Simon, we don't bounce like we used to ;)
This is so amazing. It in riches the show and interesting to see real history. Love what you are doing Billy and you have an amazing crew. Can’t wait to see more. ❤️🇨🇦
Finds from the grounds would be wonderful in the library. Put them in display cases with information about the items such as what it is and date and location found.
Or even better using a room near the chapel to make a museum dedicated to the convent's history. They could then charge a small fee so that people can come and look at the museum and the chapel...the money raised could be used to fund future projects.
I thought the same and would it not be great to just put a flag where these were found? There might be a relationship to one or two of the "stations of the cross"--a particular place the one or most of the Nuns made offerings and prayers? I just wish there was a Nun or (former) Nun who would be willing to share a few things with the crew to bring some of the "life" back and history.
If this is going to be a hotel, then the most obvious place to make a small museum of the convent is in the reception room. That way you dont take up an extra room just for a museum and you also have a richly decorated reception room with some old pics of the convent, a short history panel and some of the items found on the grounds.
The first medal in the second row is St Theresa of Lisieux (Little Flower). She is always holding a crucifix with roses. The medal Simon held out in his palm kind of looks like a St Benedict medal. Thank you for sharing your discoveries with us. Simon take care of yourself.
My confirmation name as well...as well as about 75% of my confirmation group. We were confirmed at Shrine of the Little Flower outside of Detroit ,MI. Built by Fr Coughlin, radio priest of the 1930s.
Of course, Billy’s eyes wander up to the sad situation of the old hospital roof. His heart is for saving the old buildings. Maybe bodes investigating for future project. At least a look inside. As for metal detecting…. I’m glad he has Simon to focus on the under ground treasures ! Great finds. There must be more. Go again after thaw and brush clearing.
Here in Finland those symbols are put up in the windows at christmas time and here they are faith, hope and love. People have red coloured windowlights formed as the symbols .
Our daughter lived in a home that had been owned by catholics at one time. The woman had buried a St Michael medallion under an oak tree (A neighbor said so) that was close to the house. I believe it was a way to ask for protection of the family. One very wet winter while our daughter and her family were at home the huge oak blew down in the wind and totally avoided the house. No one was hurt but it took days to cut and remove the tree from the front garden and street. So burying medallions may have to do with the nuns praying in the grotto.
I remember stone benches next to the wall where you believe the stations of the cross might have been. Did you move them or are the benches somewhere else. If a nun did pray or sit there for contemplation, that would be a place where you might bury old worn medalions you've replaced or lost. Curious 😏.
It is true that Catholics bury the blessed medals for protection. I think it is beautiful that your daughters house was protected from the tree when it fell.❤
@@nuns8126 We buried blessed St. Benedict medals at the corners of our property per the recommendation of Fr. Ripperger, exorcist, for spiritual protection. I can't tell if these are medals of St. Benedict...
I find Simon so informative! What a great teacher he is. Yanis isn’t the only one of us learning from Simon, I am as well. I love it when he is with y’all. Not looking forward to him leaving again.
Nice finds! Esp the Jeanne D'Arc coin. The two small medallions with rings that you didn't mention look like Miraculous Medals (awesome story behind these if you care to look it up sometime). The one you tried to zoom in with the camera and it didn't quite work could be a St. Benedict medal. Great vid as always! 🥰
Simon, you just give me a wink and nod towards the guy that sucker punched you and I will come across the pond and take care of the situation 😂😂😂❤. Bye the way, I am a 76 year old great -grandmother, but I still got some moves😂😂😂😂❤
Check out chapel of our lady of the miraculous medal at 140 rue de bac, Paris. All you need to know about the miraculous medal and how it came to be. Fascinating chapel and story. Well worth the visit, especially for Catholics.
Nice that Simon could have the diversion of metal detecting, something he obviously has enjoyed for years. Just watch where he steps. No more falls, please!
@@praeliora No those were just her birth and death years. Someone mentioned in a comment that she got sanctified in 1920 so it may be from that date or later.
Billy if you do have a full day detecting start in one corner and make a grid pattern to cover all the grounds also you need to detect the walls as items were often hidden in the nooks and crannies , when you get a find dont wipe the item use a spray bottle of water to clean the dirt off.
The abundance of religious medals may be a way the nuns had of disposing of blessed articles. Often, when items like holy cards and medals, rosaries, etc. are to be disposed of, these blessed items would not have been thrown in the garbage. Often they will be buried in consecrated earth so that they don't have to be thrown in the tip.
Please please consider a museum area for all the precious treasures you are finding. Makes one wonder about the people behind the artifacts…thanks so much for sharing!
Another great video from you, also one from Ryan and the Moons today! A great lazy Sunday watching all my favourites 🥰 I believe if more than 3 coins are found together it’s classed as a hoard - so you found a kind of hoard of medallions 👏🏻👏🏻
@ Simon- ouch on your fall- Hope you feel better soon. If your hip is still hurting you might want to get it checked out. @ Billy - Love your treasure finds. Yes make a display cabinet with narratives to explain the items. :D
So sorry that dear Simon suffered a fall and is now hurting and has a black eye 😮😎😢 Searching for buried treasure is so interesting and fun. I wonder why those religious medallions were buried in that area. There must be a story there‼️
Simon is the man for this job. He is very patient and is super intrigued to find old items. So cool, can’t wait to see wait is found the next time you go out.
This was a lot of fun! Please do more metal detecting around the convent-I'll bet you'll find lots more interesting artifacts. They would be wonderful mounted and framed for display, to go with the items from the convent that the hospital gave back to you. It's so cool that you have things from the convent's history!
Yikes, Simon! That was quite a tumble! Some ibuprofen should handle most of the discomfort. That hit to your head might be a concern to have checked out, though. Especially since it gave you a black eye 😳. Take care of yourself!
Fascinating! Those medals are beautiful. That metal detector might just pay for itself! I’m glad Simon didn’t break any bones when he slipped. I hope he heals up fast. We had an ice storm here last week (Oregon) and it is treacherous stuff.
Tell Simon he's very lucky that his fall wasn't worse! I had a similar fall last year (I tripped over a cat toy, of all things) and twisted my left forearm so badly that my arm was in a sling for almost two months. I also had a pretty impressive shiner from landing face-first on the floor. I'm glad he's all right --- it's always a real pleasure to see a master craftsman at work.
Oh, I love this sort of thing... the history of this place is just fascinating.... I am so sorry you fell Simon, man!!!! here's to a hot sauna like bath to ease the soreness.
Simon! Be careful mate. Your project and the Convent need you in one piece. Huge thanks to everyone for everything you do on all tge projects you share with us.
Billy, the 14 stations of the cross represent the 14 major events between the condemnation of Christ and the laying of his body in the tomb. St. Francis of Assisi gave permission to say prayers at each station for those who couldn't make a pilgrimage to the Holy Lab.
Great finds with the metal detector! Definitely worth the effort. Poor Simon,,,a fall on slippery ground makes for a painful landing. I’m so glad there were no breaks. The shiner and hip are bad enough🤕
the cross in a circle with some letters is called The Cross of St. Benedict, the letters are abbreviated versions of the Prayer of St. Benedict, commonly used in exorcisms and for protection from the devil and evil entities.
It would be nice to just walk through the basement, where the pipes aren't. In case someone buried something under a loose stone. Just a thought. Thank you for sharing your journey. ❤😊
So sorry you fell Simon and pray you heal quickly. So lucky you were not hurt more to be honest. Very great finds of those artifacts. I’m sure as the weather warms you will find more. Thank you for sharing your Sunday with us. ❤❤
My mom used to have a book of prayers for the saints. I remember hearing that you would pray to various saints for things and then barrier a statue or item of them in the area where you could pray over it for consecutive days until your prayers were answered. Then you were supposed to dig it up and then place it in a place of prominence to show recognition of prayers answered🤔
Billy and Simon. The religious metals are beautiful. Finding a way to display them would be great. Until tomorrow. Please, take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺🕊❤️👍🙏🌈😇🇺🇸🌹🌞
One way for Catholics to 'dispose' of blessed objects (objects that have been blessed) such as rosaries or medals, is to bury them, as it is a sacrilege to throw away a blessed object. So they were probably put there on purpose, perhaps after the passing of a nun, or if the medal had become worn and the wearer got a new one.
I love the exploration days! Never uneventful. The stations of the cross is a very peaceful and respectful place. I know you will eventually expose them. What cool finds… so sweet!
The walled garden is fantastic! Or it could be😊 would love to start clearing away the ivy, etc and see what hardscape is still there. Like my dream of a secret garden❤️❤️
Thanks for the Sunday vlog..Missing all the Pethericks. Hope you all are well. I will really miss MP being in Texas❤ Get the Family on the plane over 🎉
So sorry to hear Simon fell, glad he is okay. I find the metal detector findings very interesting. Just thinking about how old they are, the person they belonged to, how they came to be buried in the garden, etc.
One of the little oval ones is a Miraculous medal. There is a novena that goes along with it, a set of prayers you pray. The Joan of Arc one is beautiful. Nice finds. Would look great in a glass case for display!
What a wonderful find for only 30 minutes. You could always ask a priest to read them or try to identify them. My favorite was the cross!!! I can’t wait to see what else you’ll be able to find!!
