Prancer's Pride is also a reference to the Dr.Seuss book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, where the Grinch ties an antler onto his dog Max's head, in the same way the Pyro has it tied on his head
i think the cutesy and monster theme cosmetics works well with pyro contrast of how they see the world, but is seen as a monster by his teammates and enemy team
The 'Flamboyant Flamenco' (2:15) reference is kind of weird. According to the TF wiki, you're right. The guy who made the item said it was reference to the Mexican Mariachi & 'Día de Muertos', but both the name 'flamenco' and style of hat (a cordobes) are actually Spanish (or Andalusian). Like from Spain, not Mexico, and (as far as I know) have nothing to do with the day of the dead or Mexican culture. So either he got confused or I'm just an idiot.
I'm also pretty sure the Triboniophourus Tyrannus is also a reference to the brain slugs from Futurama as the position of the slug on Pyro's head is almost identical to how the brain slugs get placed on people in the show. But still great work!
For Engineer: the “Cabinet Mann” hat is based off of the Lemon Demon song Cabinet Man, about a sentient arcade machine. The track appears on the Spirit Phone album, and the item description “You can’t win me, I can’t be beat” is a lyric from the song.
There’s so much Venture bros references because it was a promotion for a new season. Most of them are from a single episode The only ad TF2 ever had on Cable was the mercs watching the show, and a spy being caught laughing at it. 2 characters also play in game in the show with some of the lowest quality gameplay I’ve ever seen
@@LucidMakesVideos ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l3QLZHWns28.html this is the advertisement The only cosmetics that aren’t from that 1 episode are Brock’s Locks for Heavy, which is a reference to the hair of the main character’s body guard, and the Henchman set for Scout, which is the outfit worn by the main villain’s henchmen until the last 2 seasons
One hat/mask I feel like you should have mentioned is the Fire Tooth. It, along with the Flavorful Baggies, is a reference to Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal.
The Venture Bros is referenced so much because tf2 was supposed to have a show on adult swim, so tf2 got a bunch of adult swim related cosmetics, including the hunger force and aqua flops for heavy, a reference to aqua teen hunger force, the robot chicken hat, a reference to robot chicken, and a lot more. There's even a tv ad that aired for a bit on adult swim.
@@LucidMakesVideos Tyler McVicker has a video detailing the cancelled TV show, which is where most people probably heard about the collaboration. The only things that ever happened with Adult Swim were a special TF2 commercial and Meet the Pyro premiering on Adult Swim's website (alongside youtube). There was a slight teaser of a TF2 show being made in June 2012, when Meet the Pyro and the Robot Chicken hat were released - on an FAQ for the Robot Chicken hat, the last Q&A read "Q. Are you making a Team Fortress cartoon? A. Go ask your mother." However the only thing that ever happened after were more Adult Swim hats added in the Mecha Update (December 2012). Should also note that the Samson Skewer is probably the only Adult Swim hat not related to this collaboration, since it was released afterwards for Poker Night 2.
i regretfully inform that mr. quackers is not halloween restricted. that's right, it's possible to see oversaturated pink duck pyros in your everyday match. yay.
You forgot the Fire Tooth, it’s a direct reference to the character Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal. The creator of Twisted Metal even reacted to it’s edition into TF2 on Twitter.
As someone who has and use the Triclops, the problem of the cosmetic is that it takes almost all the pyro's head, almost 90% of cosmetics for the head can't be use because of it..
It was gameplay from a most recent stream. So many people complained about my gameplay last time that I decided to pick a stream where I was playing well, rather than recording bad gameplay of me playing Pyro
I mean, Pyro is a monster and he also can show weirdly cute behavior, so the disparity between his cosmetic themes isnt that strange. Innocent monster.
The Person in the Iron mask on the Man in the Iron Mask. An unidentified prisoner during the reign of King Louis XIV who became a popular character in French culture at the time, even being featured in the later Three Musketeer novels.
cool series so far, maybe you said it prior, but are you doing an all class/ multiclass video at the end? and for the demoman video the hats that I am pretty sure are references are: Frontier Djustice is a reference to Django from Django Unchained, Dayjogger is a reference to Blade who is the main character of the comic of the same name, Bomber Knight seems like a reference to Bomberman but it could also just be a generic bomb design, and Hungover Hero is a reference to Frozone from the Incredibles. Im sure you could tell these all already because theyre fairly obvious, but I wanted to help series and am eagerly awaiting the rest.
I think I prefer the old format more, also please don't stop making jokes and stuff because people don't get sarcasm, it was enjoyable with the Xenomorph scout hat xd.
You asked why no one wore certain pyro cosmetics. You know damn well that pyro mains are mostly furries and would rather wear that one fox head cosmetic rather than something cool.
There will be a corrections video when this series is over that will go over everything I missed! Please join the discord if you'd like to contribute some references I didn't notice or get to!
Correction a bit: Fear Monger mask is based on Scarecrow design in Batman: Arkham Asylum, not Arkham Knight. Similar, Firefly mask is from Firefly design in Arkham Origins, not Knight
The Necronomicrown is not only referencing evil dead in name and description but appearance as well! It is a 1 to 1 model of the crown worn by Evil Ash in the Army of Darkness film!
As someone who has the Iron Mask cosmetic, let me tell you why it's not worn more: accessorizing, accessorizing, accessorizing. It takes up too many cosmetic slots so it's hard to work into any good looking combination - especially because IMO its best pair (the breath from below) is Halloween restricted.
Really a shame SMNC shut down. It has 2 of the best cosmetics for Pyro and Sniper (triclops and flamingo kid of course) and Id absolutely love to use both. Can’t even use SAM to get the achievements for them even if I had the game :/
The Triboniophorus Tyrannus is 100% a reference to the brain slugs from Futurama. Tyrannus, referring to a tyrant (brain slugs) commanding you what to do. There is also a soldier Halloween hat that is a brain maggot (instead of slug). The style of voice lines that soldier does when wearing it is exactly how people infected with brain slugs talk. So the soldier hat is a reference to both Futurama and to TF2 itself (using the maggot/soldier connection).
Here's something that can help with the heavy video if/when you make one: Heavy has a cosmetic Item called "Yuri's revenge" which is a small mustache with a relatively small beard. This references a character named "Yuri" with the same facial hair in the game "Command & Conquer: red alert 2" the name is referencing the games extension: "Command & Conquer: red alert 2: Yuri's revenge"
What about the fosters facade and stockbrockers scarf, they were promotional items for Killing floor and reference of of the characters. I main the Facade on my Pyro, it’s ALSO based of the real Russian GP5
Hi, Pyro main here who wears The Person In The Iron Mask, thank you SO MUCH for validating my opinion on it, I NEVER see people wear it other than me. C'mon guys, the Bioshock promo items are some of the best. Please wear them.
The reason that there's so much Venture Bros (and adult swim content) is that TF2 collabed with Adult Swim for commercials on-air. (And allegedly Expiration Date was even a pilot for an Adult Swim show)
Despite the Flamboyant Flamenco mentioning Mexican culture, the hat's appearance and name are actually based on Spanish dance style, Flamenco (literally meaning Flamingo)
Here’s a nod to another Poker Night at the inventory item, the Dangeresque, too? Hat/glasses is an item that is worn by strong bad, he of course offers these glasses up when low on cash. Another fun fact is these are the same set of shades worn by the Freak fortress character demo pan. Sorry for not leaving a comment earlier, but this was one heck of a video son. I like the way you featured a lot of people’s comments but I feel they were a bit.. small in text that or hard to read, but none the less love the way your improving the quality.
The black knights bascinet also heavily resembles the helmet of the black knight from Monty python and the holy grail, with a few differences. They both consist of a singular unbroken visor and breathing holes below, although the helmet in the holy grail is actually a great helm with a flat top and there’s no separate face plate, whereas the helmet the pyro wears appears to be a bascinet with a conical top based off the image, and the face plate is hinged as opposed to being a solid part of the helmet.
OK. Not in the video but. 1.The fire tooth is a reference to needles kane (aka sweet tooth) who's the mascot of the hit ps1 car combat series twisted metal with sweet tooth being a soulless killer and having burning head (like pyro). 2. The fire brigade may be a reference to that in ww1, firefighters who were hired to be flamethrower users at the time.
The reason noone uses the triclops is because you cant play the game to unlock it anymore. Only way would be to buy a Steam Key which is pretty expensive and could lead to you getting scammed.
3:20 and also because the game’s servers shut down a few years ago, and this was only achievable by getting an achievement in the game, making the SMNC items untradeable since they’re achievement items
i really like the range of cutesy and monster-esque cosmetics, it fits pyro! also i love the work to put into this series and appreciating the thought into the references
No one uses the triclops anymore because it can't be obtained anymore due to super Monday night combat being shut down, sucks cause I think the mask is cool.
Most of the items you asked why we dont use them, they either are unobtainable or stupidly expensive compared to alternatives, also if we are counting batman stuff then scout has a robin hat
1:43 also, the way it’s a singular antler tied around his head makes me think it’s a reference to the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas animated special, since the Grinch tied an antler to his dog Max in the same way lol
The mask in hat line Miami is name Richard and is the only mask in the game with no effects and is the main mask of jacket the main character also is a character in the second game
6:33 you asked you is the pyros cosmetics are "weirdly wholesome or based off famous weird creatures". That would sum up the pyro as a character. He's horrifying but to his pyro vision everything is wholesome
