Been down to this site about half a dozen times, when screening near the creek, look at those larger hunks in your pan a little more carefully as some gemmy little buggers will be found "in matrix" and these are often the gemmiest that Lil Pine has to offer. I have one sample in my collection with about 4-5 nice little garnets that are still red (not chlorite replaced and grey like the bigguns are). Also the tailings pile across the little gorge/valley is a great place to seek out smaller 1"-2" garnets and some of these also will be gemmy to partially gemmy. Everything went in that tailings pile so you will find chlorite replaced greys, but also a few scant ruby reds, several purplish pinks, and everything from root beer color to an unpleasant yellow-brown exist too. Now.. if you want you a 3"-5" big chunker, you have to mine the LEFT hand wall about 15-25 feet from the entrance (dont slip and fall into the big crevasse though!). I watched a guy pull one garnet out of that wall that was bigger than a large man's fist, I kid you not. Had to be almost 6 damn inches! Blew my mind, that garnet had to weigh several POUNDS... Also, at the VERY very back on the right hand wall, I pulled out a 2"+ specimen that I managed to polish and it is the most beautiful thing... it is partially replaced by chlorite but still has "wisps" and fingers of gemmy-ness running through it so it appears like a blackish/red gem when polished on the lap. Just a great spot to hunt. If you ever wanna try your luck on aquamarine and emeralds, you were only a 60--90 min drive from the defunct Ray mine (aqua) and the Crabtree Emerald mine (emerald - private, access must be arranged per the website). Now THOSE are some "real" mines. Just beware of the open shafts at Ray that plunge hundreds of feet straight down. Im sure more than one or two critters have met their end by sadly wandering too close to the old shafts (which I've heard the Forest service STILL has not completely sealed off)

Just went here this past week. The tailings pile and creek are still open but the mine itself is permanently closed. The roof fell in about a year ago according to the owners.

I heard that....too bad.

Wanted to let you all know the mine is shut down permanently. Some folks decided to go in and start chiseling away at the plates on the ceiling and caused the ceiling to collapse.

You definitely have an eye for this! I don’t think I’d be able to just look at them and see anything other than a rock! Awesome video!!

What fun. I remember going gold panning in Vermont when I was a kid but we mostly found garnets , they were tiny compared to yours! Klaus

It was a blast Klaus. We love to make memories and a garnet or two is just a bonus.

I've got a lot of garnets, but they are the small ones. But thats okay, they are clear red and pink, some a little bit larger pieces. Not sure what to do with most of them. Also at the beginning where you showed where you were going, up the trail or wherever, it did remind me of "things" - just be careful out there.

Good video ! How do you tell a garnet from a rock? I see "some" coloration and some geometric shapes. Is that about it? Also, will those rocks clean up to be a red garnet or will they have sediment in them? Very interesting !

@@LifeBuzzN brother I highly recommend. 20 buck per adult, 10 per kids. You can keep what you find. We try to go 2 or 3 times a month. We usually come home with at least 6 gallon buckets. I think yall will love it. You can camp out there. We found Amithist, garnets, skeletal quartz. Love your channel. I went and got the 15 pound rock tumbler like y'alls. Man that bad boy is awesome. Also you will find monster plates of crystals. I highly recommend it go and you will find so much cool stuff. Keep on rocking brother:)

Nice attempt to conceal the sidearm after it was in view for like 10 seconds lol. How much would you value your pull at? Was it just for fun or could there be some financial gain had for your efforts?
@LifeBuzzN
@LifeBuzzN 5 лет назад
Not trying to conceal, just not flaunting. We made a million dollars worth of smiles, but I would say little to no chance of making it rich. However, we've been several times, and drive 3 hours each way to get there.

Sugar garnet all non-gem grade.

Agreed. River garnets are 20 cents a piece by me. All cloudy, not good for anything except beads.

Hopefully not, but we will see after some cleaning, etc. The history of this mine says they had a contract and sold the good garnets to Tiffany's in New York for their jewelry. From what I know, I think they have to be pretty darn good.
