Finding Good Colorado Smoky Crystals

Smoky Crystal digging in Colorado. A very productive trip into the back country of Colorado to find some nice quality Smokey Quartz Crystals. It was at the peak of Summer and the cool Mountain temperatures were enjoyable. This video covers the first of a two day trip. On the second day the hole continued to produce crystals, but they were mostly smaller. I will return next Summer and continue scouting this area.

I am thankful that I live in an area that has crystals and minerals a person can still find. I would have to find a different hobby but I would still be getting out in the hills somewhere. I hope you are at least able to enjoy some kind of outdoor activity where you live. Fishing perhaps?

@@ColoradoGhostCreek Oh yeah, we have great mineral collecting just not great quartz near me. We do have great Amethyst in Thunder Bay but it's a 16 hour drive!! No day trips there! LOL!

Wow looks like a ton of fun and sounds nice being up in the cool mountains on a hot summer day. Can't wait to get out looking around and digging in a few months! I love hiking and prospecting, if you are ever in need of someone to help you dig I'd love to help.

Very nice. I’m drooling. Will you swap crystals with me? I got some fire agates from Arizona and Jade from Big Sur, Ca. I collected them myself. Let me know. It would be awesome! Thanks and more hunting 😊👍🏽

Thanks for the video man. So how do you decide where to start digging. I went out so many times and I get so distracted looking everywhere and then can not decide on a good place to start digging. Im in the Denver area so its not hard to get up there every week. Any help would be greatly appreciated man...

I few years back I made a couple of videos on how I find a good areas to dig. They were called, "following the Crystal Trail". It shows what I look for. Give them a look and see if that helps any.

Very informative, I love the crystals and the commentary. For every productive pocket like this, how much time would you say you spend searching/digging in areas that don't produce crystals? I've spent the past couple years searching for quartz crystals, and have found some teeny ones, but I don't live very close to the areas, and I get skunked often enough that I get fairly discouraged.

You are absolutely correct, it is Feast or Famine. The biggest pocket I ever found lasted about 4 months with me digging in it almost every weekend. A good pocket will normally stop producing after maybe two days. My longest dry spell lasted maybe a month with out finding a quality crystal. On average I'd say I find good finds every 4th outing or so. But as you mentioned in an earlier post... getting away from the crowds greatly increases your odds. Take care.

Does anybody know of any areas around Leadville good for Crystal collecting? Me and the family will be up there camping over the next couple weeks. Thank you so much

It's so frustrating not being able to see what your pulling out with all that writing in the middle. It makes me say R r a r r.

Yes I see it could of been done a lot better. It is hard to hold your camera, dig, and balance your body all at the same time. I need to start using a tripod. Thanks for the feedback, I'll take that into consideration for future videos.
