Thanks as always Austin! I'm stoked that Pokémon like Spiritomb and Unown actually have a chance to find as shiny without having to retry for months on end.
unown isnt that bad of hunt due to the guarateed boosted shiny rate and that you are guaranteed to get multiple encounters every time, i got mine in like 5 hours
I don’t think you realize, when you catch all of the overworks unown, they spawn in that temple in crimson mirelands, so you can farm them for shinies and alphas
If this video was confusing as it involves a lot of testing and findings, here is a video just explaining the method: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CqPJnvGJKu8.html I also cover more advanced permutations :)
Question: What if you just catch the first one, then battle 2, etc. are we missing a bunch of potential permutations that could stem from catching the first few Pokémon? What about catching one, battling 2, catching one, etc?
By KO-ing 2R and 2G in the first hoard of, lets say, 8 pkmn. Does that mean that during the first 4 spawn i should 1vs4, (KO 2 and catch 2), then move to the second 4 spawn and do another 1vs4 again (by KO2 and catch 2). Then after all that catch the rest ??? or do i just KO 2 from the initial wave, the hoard spawning 2 more in its place, then KO 2 more randomly?
I have been doing a lot more testing today. I assumed everything austin said was true, but tested a step further. Catching one, then knocking out a 2 v 1, and then catching the rest IS different from knocking out the two first and then catching the rest. I have found a unique new group for every combination I have tested and recorded so far (and reset several shiny alpha heracross... for science haha). This changes an initial 9 spawn from the 15 combinations shown in the video to 39 by my count. I might have missed a few combinations, but there seem to be a lot more than even thought here.
@@ElReySupr3me a lot of people get the bag from doing this but he does it the best by far. you can still recognize the sheer time and effort he puts in considering he doesn't need to do any of it. gratitude is never a bad thing to have. or you could try all this yourself sometime. i'm sure you'd do great
I do hope you mean that as that would be your unintentional tendency instead of "if he doesn't put out a video on this complex stuff, he doesn't deserve to get paid"
I tried this method after your stream and I got shiny alpha Oshawott after days of hunting. One thing I would like to note is that the Oshawott outbreak I had used didn't have a star. I just went to the outbreak, got lucky with a Round 2 of alpha Oshawott and proceeded to reset and try different combos. Thank you for bringing this method to light
@@AustinJohnPlays yeah it seems like a very low chance. I'm just lucky random 2nd rounds are predetermined cuz I'd have been pissed if I went back and didn't have a round 2 😂
I was so bummed out when I found out the old shiny hunting method doesn't work anymore. This method is a little more complicated and doesn't guarantee results, but I like the challenge. So thank you so much for the tutorial!
I mean, it might be a waste of time in your opinion but it was an easy to understand method to guarantee a shiny! If you didn’t find value in it, it’s alright because it definitely wasn’t required! I definitely used the former method to get a shiny for a couple of my favorite Pokémon!
I personally had more fun with the previous method. I used it while having the company of a nephew and we used to go after every green (his fav color) shiny we could. Now unfortunately I don't get to enjoy that
@@chumpacena They don't. He was just saying to check there everything in case one happens to spawn so you don't miss it. It was just a suggestion for reloading the MMO spawns.
Can we give this man a noble prize on shiny pokemon hunting; cause the amount of time dedicated to testing this out and actually finding the results, and publishing for those familiarizing themselves with how to shiny hunt with the massive mass outbreaks (as well as helping other pokemon content creators out to spread the news); is actually mind blowing. Keep up the good work, and thank you so much for your hard work and dedication.
i’ve never seen a more committed content creator. consistent with his uploads, pours his time into data and research, and gives us nothing but genuine and entertaining content
Only just started watching, but I just wanted to say that your coverage for Legends Arceus has been top-notch, dude. Absolutely can't wait to see you kill it again later this year for Scarlet and Violet.
That was a mouthful at the start. I saw the thumbnail and dang man, I'm so glad you got something so rare, you definitely deserve it. Keep up the hard work man, loving it. ✌️
Can confirm this works! When I was doing my tutorial Massive Mass Outbreak in the Crimson Mirelands I got a star Grotle outbreak that turned into an Alpha Grotle outbreak. To my surprise I got a shiny alpha Grotle! However, I was low on items and balls so I reset my game to get my stuff back. I went right to the outbreak and when the second wave popped up... no shiny alpha Grotle :( Although this sucked I had to look further into it. After some testing I found that sometimes the initial wave of Pokémon has different individual Pokémon depending on if I go and complete other outbreaks first or if I go and see other outbreaks. I'm still not 100% sure but I think there is some kind of system in place that can increase your shiny odds for a second wave outbreaks depending on what you do before going to said star outbreak. I'd imagine this works in a similar manner to how the last method worked where going to and from the village gave advances and extra rolls towards your shiny. All that being said, I think second wave outbreaks are seeded (NOT RANDOMIZED) and that we are able to do certain things to change the seed to one that contains a shiny in the second wave. This would make sense as it is very well known that there is a time limit to how long the MMO lasts. Could be totally wrong here. These are just my thoughts and observations. Defiantly worth looking into more though with people throughout the community and maybe even some data miners. Edit: I realized that some people would think that I am undermining what Austin went over in the video. I am only saying that I think there are other ways to also re-roll the first wave. Thus, I believe there is a way to further increase your shiny odds by competing certain tasks while the MMO timer is running.
Honestly I was trying to get an answer for this in another video because I had a similar experience getting Shiny Basculegion, I'll copy paste here Scenario 1: Massive Outbreak Shellos Berry 9 caught 1 escaped, Scorpi 8 Caught Horde Activated 8 Drapion Caught, Basculin 7 caught 1 escaped Horde Activated 4 Basculegion Rainstorm ended Reset Game Loaded Scenario 2: Shellos Berry 9 Caught 1 Escaped, Basculin 7 caught 1 escaped Horde activated 8 Basculegion 1 shiny on first 4 spawned, prinplup 8 caught horde activated empoleon 8 caught storm ended. Mind you both times I activated a staravia spawn on the way and had munchlax eat berries. This proved to me that all the mass outbreaks in an MMO are connected somehow
@@piperpimper5838 My theory on it is that for every outbreak seen or cleared you get an extra shiny roll when you approach a new outbreak during the MMO. Gonna take some data mining to prove tho.
Was doing this method and was starting to have my doubts just as I found a shiny alpha staraptor. Very cool that this works can’t wait to get something even better
you are a legend I've been hunting for a shiny Alpha Typhlosion for a while now and after just watching this video I caught one on my first massive outbreak after knocking out the first 4 mons a lvl 83 shiny spawned right in thanks so much you are the best at these guides
5 hours of testing! DANG. You have have great perseverance and I love that because you are doing it all to help the community :D Keep up the great work man!
If anyone is still confused even after watching the video, here's my best TLDR: The interactions you make in the first horde affect the second horde. His "2, 3, or 4" highlighted in red are the Pokemon you will KO in your first multi battle during the first horde. You will then run away from the battle if needed. His "2, 3, or 4" highlighted in green are the Pokemon you will KO in your second multi battle, still in the first horde. Once you've KO'd Pokemon in the desired pattern, you will catch the remaining Pokemon and the second horde will spawn. If your shiny Pokemon doesn't appear even after new Pokemon are spawning in the second horde, you will need to try a different pattern. For example: 2 KOs -> Run from Battle -> 2 KOs = Secondary Horde A 2 KOs -> Run from Battle -> 3 KOs = Secondary Horde B 2 KOs -> Run from Battle -> 4 KOs = Secondary Horde C 3 KOs -> Run from Battle -> 2 KOs = Secondary Horde D ... and so on.
I love how this new update to outbreak mechanics made space time distortions almost completely useless other than to get the fossils, porygon and magnamite, I also haven’t gotten a single space time distortion since the new update.
So basically, save in Jubilife before entering the MMO. And do process of elimination on your target and hope you find that desired shiny. That's basically what I learned from this. That and battling them matters.
Austin you truly are the best when it comes to guides. The amount of time and effort you put into your videos is just astounding. Thank you for all your hard work! Your videos are amazing!
I got both a shiny alpha and a regular shiny pachirisu in my first two consecutive outbreaks, and I wasn't even using this method. Best of luck getting yourself one!
I was so shocked when I got two shiny Zoroua in one Mass Outbreak and then two days later got to shiny female Garchomp in a Massive Mass Outbreak! I love Pokémon!!!
I just did the trick on Skorupi and the 2nd horde was alpha and after defeating all the 4 in the beginning, the 2nd horde had the Shiny Alpha Skorupi, thank you Austin!!!
Hey Austin! So, crazy thing. I was hunting in Massive Mass Outbreaks earlier this morning, and something interesting happened. There was a Ralts outbreak I went to just after I caught a full Aipom outbreak. At the end of the Ralts outbreak, some Alpha Kirlias spawned, one of which was shiny. I reloaded and checked other areas, and after I reloaded again to catch what I wanted, I went to the Ralts encounter first. And the Shiny didn't spawn. I reloaded and went through the Aipom outbreak again, and then the Shiny Kirlia spawned again! I think that, while it was only a single test, other outbreaks in Massive Mass Outbreaks are counted in the same thing as you showed in this video, as if they were all one outbreak. Also, I only ever catch pokemon in outbreaks. I don't fight them, so that eliminates that variable from my experience. I know this was a long comment. Sorry about that! I just thought it was something interesting that happened. Love your videos!!!
Thank you so much for doing the work, and determining the different groups that you can get. I wasnt sure if I was actually doing anything productive, but now i know i could get even more checks in my hunt
ALSO, For docile Pokémon who usually flee and won’t engage in battle … if you glob and stun a few close together and throw out your mon, usually one flees, most of the time it’ll engage with the stunned ones.
Within an hour of watching this video, I did exactly what he did and now have my own alpha shiny spiritomb!!! Thanks Austin, your content is always the most top of tier!!!
Just saying. This man uses so much of his life to test these theories and help us out. If y’all don’t like and subscribe, you’re doing him a great disservice. Thank you brother.
@@josephbear5870 it is his job to create content. No need to praise him as a saint when he is getting paid to do it. Do you praise the waitress when she comes and fills up your water?
@@bking1063 ya sure. But even then the waitress in her off time wouldn't come and take your order. She'll only do it when on the job and getting paid. Same thing for Austin here. He's not doing this because he saw little Joseph here struggling to understand shiny rates. He's doing it to get paid.
These videos are so comprehensive and I love how much research you and Phil put into these. Just so happened to find a shiny Spiritomb earlier today while at work, but after watching this video I wanna try going for the shiny Alpha. Coincidentally I found a Spiritomb outbreak right after this vid, but it didn’t have the star icon, however I did get a second hoard of alphas afterwards. Could it still work? Or do you absolutely need the star icon?
I think there's even more large-group permutations than you said. Looks like you missed the 2-2-4 pattern on a first horde of 9, totaling 16 permutations. For a first horde of 10, you missed the 2-3-X patterns, bringing the total to 22. Question, can a pattern include singles before or between multiples and still give a unique second horde? If so, we add a whopping 15 permutations at just the first horde of 8.
I think you’re right I’ve done one single catch, then kill 2 pkmn including the one that has spawned and it gives me different results too, maybe a repeat ? but that’s faster to do tho..
A funny observation I've made from Outbreak hunting, most of my shines appear after the alpha spawns or with an alpha. Maybe it's coincidence but it's weird.
It may not be an alpha, but I did just catch a shiny Zoroark from this. Thank you austin for continually being one of the best youtubers out there. The amount of effort you put into just one video is not only amazing but also frightening.
Seeing other poketubers videos full of top 5 this, top 10 that, Pokémon designs from best to worst, ect, ect and that being the only thing their content, its fun and all. But this. THIS is content. In depth analysis, theorizing and testing their practicality until its genuinely practical. This is the kind of content I love and seeing it all put into practice is just so damn rewarding. Its literally something I can grasp and put effort into nearly always resulting in what I needed. Thanks for the awesome video, man!
And people say people who play games are lazy smh. This man is working incredibly hard to bring us all the knowledge from his findings, and explain and even show it in ways that are easy to understand, even for someone like me, who has a hard time looking at data like this.
I just caught a shiny alpha growlithe tonight using this method!!! My favourite Pokemon and shiny in the game. Thank so much for making such an easy guide!
Some people thought you can only get a second alpha horde if the outbreak had a star. The star only guarantees it, every other outbreak still has its own chance. I'm pretty sure you already know it, but a lot of people don't know.
Thanks as always Austin! Because of this video I was not only able to rank up really quickly because I was catching a lot of alphas, but I also got an alpha shiny torterra, my first alpha shiny!
Genuinely nice math bro. I actually caught 5 shiny alphas without this information but now I can focus on specific Pokémon if I need it to be Alpha shiny.
Find it kinda funny how BLAINES got made fun of doing this on the regular Outbreaks and now the same people are covering it. Good on explaining it really nice job.
This is probably a reworded version of what AustinJohnPlays says, but I think I've figured out something! So when you fight the initial massive outbreak, you can get into 1v(number) of pokemon battles. The number you defeat before withdrawing your pokemon is what calculates the next spawn. If you only do 1v2 battles, you'll get the spawn that comes with that calculation. Some of these are duplicates (meaning you can have three 1v2 battles and a 1v4 battle with the initial mass spawn, then the same spawn for the aforementioned 1v2 scenario comes up).
I found a second horde spirit on outbreak last night and I caught your stream yesterday so I saved the game and have been waiting for this video. Thanks Austin
Hey Austin. Thank you so much man. I found a shiny Alpha Spiritomb in an Alpha horde after a spawn of 9 total Spiritomb and knocking out 8 of them (2 multi-battles of 4). I tried every last combination and by god it worked!
It does make me sad and happy that people can get shiny spirttomb. I did it before the massive mass outbreaks and got a normal shiny one after 15 hours total for shiny hunting for it. I got 6 shiny ralts from it and one alpha shiny haunter from it. I'm just glad more people wont have to suffer my fate.
I got a full odds alpha Infernape yesterday. I was super pumped! I've been hunting shinies of the Cyndaquil line, so I will definitely be applying this strategy moving forward. Thank you for doing all this research and testing!
Thanks Austin for the run down on the new shiny hunting. Just wanted to offer to the chat that I personally has some success with some of the additional permutations mentioned at the end. I finally caught a shiny alpha Decidueye. The initial horde went to 8 and the combo that worked was to catch 2, then do a triple KO and then catch the rest.
Hey so i thought this would be worth mentioning I went to a massive mass outbreak and found an unown outbreak which had a shiny and it ran away, my previous save was in jubilife before going to this mass outbreak so i reloaded to check and gave berries to Munchlax and everything was exactly the same all pokemon, what had berries etc even got my shiny unown again too which is interesting as that should mean the outbreaks are pre-determined in jubilife so you could save if 2-3 massive mass outbreaks and check them all knowing they will still be the same if you save in jubilife - havent seen this mentioned anywhere else so wanted to say here!
I just looked down while flying towards a goomy outbreak- and i see a differently colored Carnivine!! I fly down- and i realise quite well when the stars appear in battle.... I ENCOUNTERD MY THIRD SHINY IN THIS GAME!! And i was about to just fly past it and possibly leave it behind forever!! O_O Dayum good luck increases while watching Austin John Plays recent videos where a random shiny appears!! Im WHAAAT?!?!?! Thank You my man!!! You are a legend!
Was just trying to do this and it worked, but not exactly. I was flying around the Crimson Mirelands trying to find any first-spawn shinies among some outbreaks, managed to get a Rosalia from a Budew one. Was flying to the last one and found a (full odds) shiny alpha Tangrowth. Which happened to be my first Shalpha :)
Dude Austin is a legend man like I was in last night's stream and saw the shiny Alpha, so when I heard he was doing the math to find a great strategy to shiny hunt I was happy lol
Incredible work. I’ve been holding off the update and have just been grinding every day for random shinys for a few hours and after seeing this I think I might just have to go for it. Cheers Austin!
i love the full explanation but i'm dumb lmao so as i'm hearing it, the method goes like this(?): - find an MMO with desired pokemon outbreak with a star, save at camp. - go to the outbreak, check if it's horde is final evo or alpha or both - reset if its one of which you want, then go to outbreak, saving in front of its first spawn - KO the first 4, catch the rest, & let new horde spawn & reset until shiny appears that's what i'm getting but please, correct if i'm wrong, even that last part is just the slightest bit confusing to me lol (edit): just to be clear, i just mean the method he explains in the half, not after further testing after the Typhlosion
13:43 I can confirm 😢 I target 3 Pokémon (Rufflet, Sneasel and Qwilfish) but I never had the chance to get a shiny nor a shiny Alpha… I tried every methods, their Pokédex pages are “Perfect”, shiny charm in my pocket… but no luck at all… this is getting VERY dull and frustrating.
