That's why people are getting deforestation done.Corruption is at its peak people are selling off whole mountains and every one is having close eyes on to this cronic issues.Himalyas and mountains are crying which we are hearing but not doing anything and waiting for something disastrous to happen that too very very soon.Chamoli is recent one.People seeing disasters helplessly... very sad.

It's not just about owning a house you know. To really get a feel of the place and get all the benefits out of it, you have to live there full time, permanently. Many people own holiday homes in Uttarakhand. It's nothing special. They visit twice a year and live for a week each time. It's not worth living like that because the real benefits are slower pace of life, clean & peaceful environment, fresh unpolluted air, brilliant weather all year round, unadulterated organic food, tight well knit small community, healthier lifestyle due to lesser creature comforts and less materialism. You don't get any of those benefits when you just visit as a tourist once or twice a year. You are better off just staying in different homestays in different places instead of owning a house if you want to remain just an occasional visitor. Some holiday home owners promise themselves that they will move in permanently after 60. Trust me, that rarely works because pahadi life in tough and involves a lot of hard work. You are unlikely to get maids to work for you as you do in the cities. Markets are several kilometers away. Power cuts are common. You may need to shovel snow in winters. The basic necessities of life are a privilege in the hills. So for an old person who is used to all the creature comforts of city life, it's too big a change in lifestyle to suddenly get accustomed to. So it's important to make the move while you are still able and young and can get used to the daily grind. It will be tough initially but your body can take it. I bought a small parcel of land in Uttarakhand last year and aim to start construction work early next year. I plan to live there responsibly and in an eco-friendly way with minimal carbon footprint. There are already enough rich people building villas there by cutting down trees and destroying natural habitat of animals just to run a commercial venture or a holiday home they can show off to relatives. I don't want to be a part of that club. I want to adopt the pahadi lifestyle and be a contributing member of their community.
