I need to be real with everyone, continuing to make art after what I've been through hasn't been an easy road. I'll show you the ways I continued to stay inspired and fill the well during creative fallow periods so that way you can get through it too.

🎹 Like the music in the background? It’s by my amazing partner Wesley Jackson. I used clips of his instrumental work in this video.
Wes is working on finalizing a new record right now but check out his archive of great stuff. 🎶

Thank you for being this incredibly vulnerable. It's hard when difficult times steal your passions. I'm so glad you've found a path away from there

I'm so glad it resonated with you! I was shaking with anxiety my first night editing this and almost walked away from the video entirely. But really happy I didn't. The path away was a long and meandering one but really glad i found it! 💕

I quit before going to a proffessional art school. And fell on my butt a few times working in Graphic Design. I still can't escape Graphic design, but for me writing and working on a comic has helped me get back into art again. Age is also helpful, I have definitly mellowed out over the years.

Yes!!! The level of frustration I felt with professors who would side eye students who did not want to pursue some vague art purity. The art for art sake

I love your personality and videos! I started reading The Artist's Way but unfortunately never finished it when I moved. I need to find it!!!

Thank you so much! I struggle with the Artists Way but i think it has so many wonderful core lessons. Its worth picking up again! I suggest skimming the book, using notes and flags, and creating your own version with what works and resonates! that's what i am in the process of doing with it!

Have had The Artist Way for decades, and I just can't get through it. I hate the morning pages especially. After getting a page done, I don't really have anything of any importance to write down.

@beckywebb1916, I have never been a journaler, so the morning pages were very hard for me. Frankly, I did not get much out of them.

Step number one to jump starting the making of art. Disabuse yourself of the notion you will ever make any money at it, ever be famous or get into a big NYC gallery. There! Now you're free! Go for it!

28:09 Yes, I have quit that book. I tried reading it years ago, and again last year. Its content doesn't resonate with me. Perhaps, I'll try again... Three books that hit home for me in terms of mental "growth factors" are the following: _Wabi-Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers_ --Leonard Koren _Meditations_ --Marcus Aurelius, Gregory Hays (Translator) _The Myth of Sisyphus_ --Albert Camus 🦋This is a great video. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏾

I just finished going through The Artist's Way last month. It taught me some things about myself that I hadn't realized. I plan to revisit it in the future.

Amazing! Did you get through the book in 12 weeks? Or were there any things that were hard to do in the timeline for you? It’s definitely worth revisiting!

@@MelMitchJackArt I got through it in about 14 weeks. There were some things that I didn't do, but I tried to.
