This Canadian really admires your concern for the environment and so appreciate how much plastic and other waste you remove from the waterways. You make me want to be a better person and follow your example. I also enjoy the music in your videos and share your joy when you find something you really like!
I do tag my videos with "ASMR" It doesn't make it in to the title, because it's only a small portion of the audience that gets an ASMR response to my voice. But, I'm happy that it works for some. 🙂
WW1 1916 Standard War Office Issued British Soldier's Service Spoon. Known as a "fiddleback" and made of cuprinickel, this pattern of spoon was introduced in 1894 under pattern 3910/1894 and was to remain in service throughout the Great War, although it was supplemented by a new pattern in 1917 that more closely resembles the ‘teardrop’ handle of today. The letters numbers on the back are the soldiers ID, the ones on the front are his regiment. The more symbols stamped on a spoon, the more owners it had.
Thanks so much for the excellent and in depth identification. 🙂 I hope I can identify the soldier it was issued to one day... I've found another one too since then.🙂
I now pick up all plastic and trash found on my walks around the trails and foot paths by my home here in Canada got the idea for watching Tom Burleigh .
Today I figured out why you find so many paste jars. I used to wonder what in the world people did with all that paste - like, what were they gluing together so much? :D But thanks to your narrative, I figured out that "meat paste" was a thing, which means that people must have eaten food pastes of various kinds. It makes so much more sense now!
Hello Tom, I'm always humbled by your videos, the plastic and lead you remove and the greenery. I hail from the 🏜 desert, which is very hot and harsh. The dragonfly truly made me smile. When I was pregnant 15 years ago I had a very large bright blue dragonfly that decided me and my belly were very fascinating, I giggled and said I must be having a boy. Well months later on today's date I gave birth to a boy, with eyes the same color as that dragonfly. Little messengers I call the dragonflies now. Thank you for the reminder of that memory.
The “stone” you found is a fossil called Septeria nodule/concretion. An it’s super cool, you should go back and get it. A concretion is a hard, compact mass of matter formed by the precipitation of mineral cement within the spaces between particles, and is found in sedimentary rock or soil. Concretions are often ovoid or spherical in shape, although irregular shapes also occur. The word 'concretion' is derived from the Latin con meaning 'together' and crescere meaning 'to grow'. Concretions form within layers of sedimentary strata that have already been deposited. They usually form early in the burial history of the sediment, before the rest of the sediment is hardened into rock. This concretionary cement often makes the concretion harder and more resistant to weathering than the host stratum. Descriptions dating from the 18th century attest to the fact that concretions have long been regarded as geological curiosities. Because of the variety of unusual shapes, sizes and compositions, concretions have been interpreted to be dinosaur eggs, animal and plant fossils (called pseudofossils), extraterrestrial debris or human artifacts.
Thanks Gail and Alex, turns out the Spoon is a WW1 standard issue spoon, and the numbers are the soldier ID. I might even be able to find out who it was issued to. 🙂
Thanks get in. The finding of the thing is the main appeal for me; I could easily buy a Codd bottle off Ebay... but finding one would be a joy far greater than shopping. I hope to return to this site in the Autumn, when the leaves are red. 🙂
@@tomburleigh9261 I just thought it would make you smile. We don't have them here or I would send you one. I can "hear" smiles in people's voices and it would have been a pleasure to hear yours.
@@getin3949 Yes, it would make me smile. 🙂 I have an almost child-like delight at recieving any parcel in the post (even ones I've bought myself). Perhaps I should do an unboxing video one day.
The tiny white dwarf is Santa, I believe. I have a similar one - I collect tiny santa figurines from the turn of the century. I will try to post a photo. Your adventures are a delight during this challenging time, I’ve enjoyed them immensely. Thank you so much.
you do hunt in some of the most lovely Beatrice Potter like magical places! Your commentaries are intelligent and thoughtful with such a soothing voice! a pleasure!
OOoooooo. The long tunnel sequence was quite vividly Time-Travelesque! Tangible sense of relief to emerge back into the air & greenery! Wonderful to travel with you! Thanks for sharing!
You had asked for suggestions or ideas on what to do with the big metal wheel if you went back and got it, and the best one I could come with is turinging into a light fixture hanging from the ceiling. You could turn it on it's side, and put cut bottles with lightbulbs in them hanging in between the spokes to get a rustic theme.
Lots of nice blue and white , but my favorite is the little dwarf figurine too . Just think how long he's been lying there waiting for someone to find him and take him away from this dump ! Great video , as always .
Thanks Karen. I have recorded more poems, just waiting for the other ingredients before they're ready to upload. I have Art for a few, just the music missing... and the people working on them have many projects on the go, so going is slow 🙂
🙂 It does sometimes feel like that. Though I know I miss a lot; whenever I go mudlarking with someone else, I still don't find noticably less... I just miss what they find. 🙂
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if they have any next time I can go. (can't really shop in physical stores at the moment, but one day will be able to again). 🙂
Those mushrooms look like honey agarics. It is honey agaric season now in Moscow region. I also picked some. They are most common seasonal mushrooms in Russia.
Thankyou for such a delightful discovery. What a relaxing , calm , and compelling journey...eyes down , almost wellies on. Cleverly and humorously narrated. Really well done. Hooked.
I don’t know how I almost missed this, except I slept the whole weekend away due to migraine. It makes finding this even more special. Can I just say how much my heart danced when you finally started to pick up some of the amazing pottery shards????? I have to admit I would have kept the lovely blue glass hand. It seemed fluid and mysterious. Yay for a young Sphinx!!!!
Please return at least once more. I'm desperate to see your sphinx finished. And I love that small hexagonal (?) blue shear top bottle. Beautiful. Thank you. Loved the location - though the mosquito that got in the house and proceeded to sting/bite me 6-8 times around my elbow was annoying - but gave the whole video some realism. I hope you get your camera.
I have so enjoyed finding your videos! The solitide and gorgeous scenery are not to be found in my corner of California. If there were streams and tunnels, unfortunately you'd encounter many homeless people. Thank you for taking me along these journeys - it's just been wonderful.
I was going over in my head who your voice sounds like I hope your not offended by my comments but your voice sounds like the narrator of “Winnie the Pooh “
How did this brill vid escape me. Love all the things u find. The box will loosen up by nature if u scrape a little away all round it, pick it up next time then. 👍👍👍👍👍💯 % interesting
Beautiful video Tom Scenery Music Running streams and your soothing Voice and great finds was so enjoyable to watch and the reading of Cock Rabin was just Beautiful Thanks for letting us come along with you on your adventures ❤
Loved the footage through the tunnel illuminated by head torch and the light at the end. Thank you for reciting the poem about Cock Robin, very characterful and entertaining. Looking forward to a craft video before the end of the year if the spirit takes you. Cheers Tom.
Thank you, the spirit is definitely taking me into Craft video territory; a new heavy duty craft table is arriving in the next few days and I'm so looking forward to it. 🙂 I'm glad you enjoyed the tunnel (I'm planning a few tunnel visits), and the Poem (I've recorded quite a few poet recitals, just waiting on other collaborators to make decent videos) 🙂
Wow Tom, what a fantastic location and video, Linda and I just watched it. I'd be delighted to have any blue and white that you don't need. Of course I will pay the postage. I was supposed to be coming home to the UK tomorrow but sadly the new quarantine laws relating to travel from the Netherlands means I can't. I long to come home and maybe that can be in October. I'd love to take a lark with you if that's convenient. Thanks a million for your frequent mention in your larks, I really appreciate it. Keep up the good work, take care. James, Linda and Ellie.
Thanks for revealing this location to me; wouldn't have found it without you... and you can certainly have the pick of the blue and white. I have one small project in mind for it, and you're a few tiles short!? If you can keep a good distance; October might be possible... I'm still shielding and being very careful, but it would be good to see you and lark together. 🙂
What a very pleasant scene outside your round up window. It looks very peaceful and serene. A nice walk, it always amazes me that England has such lush woods, more like in the tropics. I love the walks in the streams, it matters not if you find any small treasures, just the walk and scenery is pleasurable enough. Of course, it may matter to you...Yes, please go back, again. Have a good week! ✌🏼❤️
I have never heard nor read the poem before. Quite sad, but are we never to know why the sparrow shot cock robin with the arrow? Thoroughly enjoyed this wander through your corner of England, Tom! I am always a little startled, when you climb up out of the waterways, to see the broad expanses of sky and countryside. Yes, please return to this peaceful place! My favorite find today is the pottery shard with the Celtic knot pattern. Stay safe and we will do the same here in Florida.
Again Tom....you have made a video that has uplifted my soul and my day. I was out metal detecting today and whilst I didn't find anything of great significant value, I did find items that intrigued me and certainly came home with me. Thank you for taking us with you for your mudlarking. And please do more poetry readings. That one was absolutely beautiful. I loved how you changed your voice just a wee bit for each character. Well done Tom. I look forward to more of your videos. Stay safe and hope you and your girlfriend are healthy and well. Take care. Greetings from Canada.
More please from this site, brilliant. The piece of slate with squares was, as you guessed a victorian school slate for numbers, others were plain and I had one ( not for use by me!) that was plain on one side and engraved with stright lines on the other.
When you paned your camera when you said I think I will go now and it was up from the green trees of a beautiful England to the great plians of Nebraska,, USA and I was wondering about that hole you were on about and somehow you slipped in. I heard myself say, "Where am I "? Loved this one too. Susann, USA not In Nebraska
