Finding placer gold locations using google earth is fun & effective. In this video I show you the basic things to research. Steep gorges to flat meandering streams. How to pin point the locations & make notes. Then when you are ready for a trip you can write down the GPS. coordinates of the location. Program them into a hand held gps or a vehicle gps, to get you near the chosen area. This technique will work anywhere there is placer gold. Best if you know where gold was originally found. Streams or Rivers that gold has been found, in the past. I ALWAYS FORGET TO MENTION IN MY VIDEOS, THAT I AM A GOLD PROSPECTING GUIDE AS WELL. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BOOK A TRIP FOR 2012, MY INFORMATION IS ON THE SIDE OF MY RU-vid PAGE. 100% GUARANTEED TO FIND YOU GOLD & TEACH YOU HOW TO FIND MORE ON YOUR OWN. Join me on Facebook for great group chat & information. New information added every week. Search Yankee Gold Prospecting New England on FB. Hope you have great success in your search for GOLD.

you can also download mine cache as a layer, gold atlas as a layer and lr2000 as a layer, when you combine these tools you can almost pinpoint every old claim....by doing that you can see when why and how they were mining! great job!

I have been long time investigating about maps and I had an idea where to go, but I was not sure about where rivers become slower, which is at usually narrower width of the river , this video helps me to get where I wanted to go, also mix it with other geological survey , I believe we find gold. Thank you

It is such a great tool. Saves my knees from all the terrain hiking. While looking for a good location. When you find those flat spots after a good drop in elevation, you have a great starting point to look for gold.

Lol Br I found a creek 6 months ago, And I usually enjoy diving below streams & just vacuuming the small gold pebbles as its easier. But i decided to start moving bigger boulders , with an extra large crow bar & a car jack, Me and my pops. So we decided to hit the outer dry corners that had been submerged on during high stream, And wonder if there could be pockets of gold there, as we would find wedged in between rocks. To our suprise we hit an amazing pocket, after removing about 2 to 3 boulders the size of kitchen garbage cans. And there it was baby, a cluster of about 7 gold nuggets totaling about 2.8 ounces on the scale. The day paid off well, we have never found so many nuggets clustered like that. Usually we find pebbles clustered underwater wedged between, rocks. We will be returning to this place. Keep in mind that we only look for gold where no one has dared to reach. We love hiking about 2 miles to 3 miles out of the way and spend all day and make it back to point A before the sun sets. We know many other good spots to. But yeah look where no one else looks. We split the funds. I was able to use $1,800 & pay up to 3 months worth of my home mortgage wich freed up 3 more months. Now im always 3 months ahead in my mortgage, thats what finding 1 to 2 ounces at todays price does. As far as before weve came up with bout half an ounce from month to month, Pebbles & gold grains. I was able to also celebrate my nephews birthday with spare gold. Thats the great thing. But people fail to realise in order to hit the mother load? You need to dig in on the in-between the (S) Why? Remember the way a river snakes throughout its life changes its pattern. Think about this for a second, Have you seen how a snake zig zags as it makes its way foward? The (S) Reverses & inverts many many times over & over. Very different from the zig zag you see today. Currents move & break away soil & rocks & change paths side to side. You need to look on the side of the streams & dig 4-5 feet holes & study older maps pay attention how that zig zag has changed over time.

Thanks Dex. I only rely on the gps locations. You are right about the land marks that is why I have distinct marking spots near bridges & stream intersections. I usually make notes of how far I need to walk in from a bridge or creek confluence. Thanks for your input.

Heck yeah. I always do. The best info you will ever get is from the history of placer gold in your area. I don't waste to much time on creeks that have no history of gold being found. Though I know there are plenty of creeks that have gold, that aren't mentioned. I explore creeks that are tributaries to gold bearing streams. These streams are where it is possible to find really nice gold.
@YankeeGoldProspect
@YankeeGoldProspect 11 лет назад
You can usually find pull offs even off the back roads. Places where fishermen may have parked over the years or an old logging trail. Some areas it may be a bit of a hike to get to. That is where google earth helps. So you can look at all of the roads & access spots to the creek.

You're welcome Chris. Each creek is different & the location on the gold may depend on the formations. I tend to like the tributaries a little better because I mostly pan for gold. So the rivers may be too deep for me to get great color. While tributaries are smaller & not as deep.
@YankeeGoldProspect

That's all good. There is certainly more info out there than there was a few years ago. I have great locations in VT. So it is really a matter of finding where the chunkiest gold is. But that is where Mine Cache was helpful.

@17scoot Haha Thanks. Glad you like it & hope it help you find a mother load. I think I have read every stitch of information on the web for finding gold. Including Perkins cove & the kid who created a mini gold rush. But there is flour gold in the brook there. I Striper fish there sometimes, that's about it. So take your google earth, cause you know that is glacial gold. Follow due North & you may find some rivers above that hold better gold.

Oh, I wasn't referring to the terrain specifically, (as in the terrain features in various programs), but loosely using the word to explain the overall look of a particular area or the feel I get when I see the land. For example, I will view land on GE and it might appear quite open and when I visit it in person, it is very much more densely wooded that that which appeared to me on my monitor in the comfort of home.

It really depends on where you are. So no. However, most of the rivers in New England have some fine flour gold. The best thing to do is to search areas that have historical records of prospectors finding gold there in the past. Usually better gold can be found in tributaries to the rivers. Though it can be harder to locate due to the tributaries being much steeper grades. I like finding flat areas on creeks. That is where I find the most gold.
@YankeeGoldProspect
@YankeeGoldProspect 12 лет назад
@JimFariello No dry washes out here but I almost mentioned that this would work the same in the deserts & Australia. Because you can see where the creeks flows during the rainy season. Including all the elevation drops.
@YankeeGoldProspect
@YankeeGoldProspect 11 лет назад
Sorry I missed your question Ben. I stick to rivers that have a documented history of people finding gold. Even better can be the tributaries. There are no guarantees and the bottom line is, you will have to dig a lot of holes.
@YankeeGoldProspect
@YankeeGoldProspect 12 лет назад
No I have bad knees so hiking is hard for me. Google Earth takes a lot of that work out for me. So far I have found my best gold after long stretches of a steep grade. Say 1/2 mile or so where the creek has very little slow water. So the first place I can find where there is slow water, I know there is going to be some gold at the back of the pool. Even better is if that location is on a bend in the creek.
@YankeeGoldProspect
@YankeeGoldProspect 12 лет назад
@1lowGMC Hope it helps. Course finding the best gold is a mater of sampling areas. But the gravel bars below drops are a good place to start. And of course there should be a build up of gold in the flat zones.
@YankeeGoldProspect
@YankeeGoldProspect 11 лет назад
If you are in CA, I envy you. You have some of the best gold gold bearing rivers in the country. Depends where you live. You can find gold in the rivers East of San Diego. Follow that mountain range all the way to Canada. There is gold in most all of the rivers out there. Google search gold bearing rivers in your County. Good luck.

Anything over 3' drop in 30' is good. I normally look for white water. As the ground levels out below the drop, I know I will find some good gold there.

@rileyfreem7 Thanks, All the creeks I check with google earth are creeks that are known to have produced gold in the past. If I am going to drive several hours & spend a weekend prospecting, I try to research the areas that I want to prospect before the trip starts. The good thing is, once on the creek you may find better areas. But finding the flat zones after a good drop is important.

Those KML files are great aren't they. I find the terrain is always vastly different in person than what I see on GE, although comparisons with known areas can be made for a good feel. Garmin have the Birdseye maps to put on the handheld and all the USGS maps are right there on the screen. Pretty accurate locationns of all the mines too.

Wouln't brooks and streams coming down from mountains carry more gold? The closer to the mountain, the better chance of finding gold?

Not in my area. We don't really have dried up creek beds. But I have used it to mark ancient stream flows on the bigger rivers. The problem is, is that it is mostly farm land. Land that you couldn't get a permit to mine.

Unfortunately Gypsy, there are not as many ancient river beds out here. Though you can locate some along the larger rivers. But many of them are farm land and we are not allowed to prospect on them. I am sure there would be some excellent gold there but it may remain for another 1000 years.

Hi. Its been 9 years since you posted this? Do you still Gold prospect? If so, how did you do with the Google earth technique ? Let me know. Its now August 3-2021 and I'm just getting into Gold Prospecting, I just use a metal detector at this point so far, but I'm planning on doing some gold panning in California around the Ventura County area and I'm also planning on doing a little dry washing in the desert in California ,Arizona and Nevada. So please let me know how things are going with you in regards to Gold Prospecting and any tips and tricks you can share would be very helpful. Like I said its been 9 years since you posted this video? You either hit the "Mother Lode" and retired to your own private island? or you gave the hobby up years ago. Take care. Hawk out!!

How can you tell what areas are more likely to have streams containing gold? Is there a certain rock/ground/ geological composition that is more common to contain gold that another? In my area there are a lot of streams/creeks, I was wondering if there would be some "higher priority" creaks that I could determine would be better to check out firs based on the kind of material in the creek. Thanks for any help.

I have decent equipment, but I'm running into that area you're in. Come hunting season? I've found where I am, you can pretty well hang up the gold hunting for now. Looks like time to dig into the research for the sort of off season. Good luck, Man!

If there are houses near by, just ask the home owners for permission. At a decent hour of the day. When there is lots of unposted land & no one that seems to live near by you can pan for gold without getting into trouble. At least this is what I was told by a water resorce enforcement officer.
