The last date I can make out on the registration stickers on the rear license plate is 1994. That would mean it's long out of the DMV's system. But as a California license plate expert, I can tell you these plates are original to the car! 1971 was the third year of the famous California blue plates, and the letter sequence started with "C" (like it does in "729 CAY"). The good news is that you can actually register these plates to the Camaro by using the DMV's YOM program.

Congratulations on an excellent find ! The body looks really straight too . If all that needs to be repaired is the upper quarter where it joins the roof , not too bad . The rear wheel well arches looked good but so does the front as well . I thought that in 1970 the semi front bumpers were banned so in 1971 full front bumpers were installed . That killed the look so I'm glad you found this Camaro in factory build . Hoping for the best for you with the entire restoration . You've got an excellent start and will certainly be a plus to keep the imitative going strong . Wishing you the best of luck . If you get stuck on things when trying to get it running , I guess us subscribers will try to get you through . Too bad I'm so far away ( New York ) or I would get a wrench on it . I think your capable but may just need a tip or two . Guess we will see what we can do . Best of luck and looking forward to seeing you cruising it soonest . Greg .

@HFX1955 4 года назад
The semi front bumpers are part of the RS (Rally Sport) option which was available till 1973. Is this a true RS - TBD? In 1973 they put over-riders on the full bumper cars. I think they reinforced the RS front end because they managed to avoid going to the I-beam bumpers common to most 1973s when the new bumper regulations came into effect.

The mirror don't look broken to me. The glue holding them on dries out after a while and the mirror drops off. I had one land in my lap once while driving. It scared the crap out of me at first because it was dark in the car and I couldn't see what happened right away. What ever you do, don't use a crazy glue to attach it back to the glass. After gluing mine back on, a crazy girlfriend pulled the mirror off one day in anger and the mounting plate took a layer of glass with it. lol Nice car BTW, the early Gen 2s are my favorites!

Body wise I'd say you got a good car to start with, the only question being the condition of the floors since the car looked like the floor was down against the dirt/mud underneath it. A good car to learn on: mechanical and body work. Most of both you can learn from youtube videos. If you screw it up you just go back and fix it or start over. The trick is taking your time to do things as best as you possibly can and don't use cheap products, like paint or patch panels as well as mechanical parts. If you do you're wasting your labor. You don't have to buy the very very best of everything that costs a fortune but spend a little money and you can get some quality supplies from solid companies. Good luck and have fun!

Yeah I just bought a numbers matching 72 Charger Special Edition that was left abandoned, sunk in a backyard for the last 20 years here in Michigan. I basically had to buy it without really inspecting it because of all the people trying to buy it. All my worries about the condition came true haha! It's now being completely rebuilt which wasn't the original plan lol. Most people would just part it out, but I'm going to save it! It's getting a whole new unibody frame, including the inner rockers and the crossmember sections. All new flooring from the firewall to the rear. All new suspension, front and back. All new brake system, front and back. Same with the fuel system, and other things. Apart from sheet metal and frame stuff, there's actually a lot of good to this car still, thankfully. The door panels, top and bottom, as well as the rear side panels, are in perfect condition. So is the rear seat. The passenger bucket seat is almost perfect, and the driver's seat isn't great. The original engine also looks brand new inside, which was surprising! This car was very well/highly optioned! It'll be worth it when it's done!

1971 F body cars (Cameron, firebird, transam) production numbers were low because of a strike by the workers in that plant for that production year.

You can remove wheels and tires and put on blocks for now. Take rims to tire center, and get new tires installed on original rims.

i know i'm late to your build series, but after watching this first episode , it reminded me of a project car the channel Power Nation, Muscle cars did on a 71 camaro that they took from a base split bumper car to restored bigblock 4-speed car, what made me think about it was i think your second episode when you opened the door to yours and i think they are the same co;or. can't wait to watch more.

Collin Hince yeah they are it’s just tough to find one because you find the nice ones for a decent price but they don’t have the color you want or something you really don’t like about it or a pos that’s half there or spend 50k on a perfect freshly redone one form trans am specialties
