I was out exploring with my friend when we found something very unexpected buried in the creek. This was a very large object! Over 10 feet in length. Finally we managed to dig out and uncover it, but how did it get here? Could this be a valuable find? Keep watching to see what all we discovered!

About Nugget Noggin:
Hey! I'm Michael, I love to get outdoors and discover awesome things with my metal detector. I started treasure hunting when I was 12 years old and shortly after received my first metal detector. Since then, I've been hooked and just love going out to search for the unknown. You may see me in the woods crawling under an old house or diving down in the river to search for rings. Wherever the adventure brings us, I'll try my best to keep you entertained.

The "post" is a 10-pin telephone line crossarm with four two wire telephone lines so only 8 pins are installed, common on rural lines to give good separation between circuits. The insulators are 1920s-1930s Whitall Tatums made in Millville, NJ and are chipped from removal of the wire when the line was dismantled.

@libra8a exactly, Hemingrays are RR insulators. I collected them as a kid in GA on a historic RR line dating back before the civil war.

42 years with ma bell in Texas. Our open wire party lines used hemmingways. When we replaced it with cable we would throw them as far as we could from the old wire run instead of bringing them to the junk pile. If caught not cleaning them up we got a chewing out. Our way of sticking it to the boss

Hopefully you see my comment! About the insulators, I figured I would give you some good reputable information about them. They were produced by the Whitall-Tatum Company, a subsidiary of the Armstrong Company in Newcastle, New Jersey back in the 1920's-60's. The insulators you found specifically are what collectors dub CD (Consolidated Design) 154's. They are as common as they come, being produced in the billions! So with so many numbers, they're monetary value is low, ranging around $1-2. But the historical value, no matter how common the glass (as is with anything old), is still greater than money. I will suggest rather than using a drill press and destroying the historical value, and making hanging lights out of them, just clean them up and put 'em in a nice window. If you (or anyone else reading this comment) ever want any information about insulators, eMail me at Railfan1098@Gmail.com and I'll get back to you!

I had a collection of insulators as I worked for the southern California Edison Company in 1960's - 1970's. Had to give them away as I moved to CO in 1974 & they were to heavy to move. Great to see other people enjoy them today!

I work for hydro, See em all the time ! We just removed a few poles the other day from 1945. Those ones are for old telephone/communication lines. The ones for Hydro are grooved in the center up top, Then Tie wire is wrapped around the insulator/wire to hold it there. They are usually made from porcelain but the ones you found are glass.
