He just taught me what my qualified maths teacher couldn’t in 10 seconds

When its unclear what the y-intercept c is but you know the gradient m and at least one point (x1,y1) then... y = mx + c Since (x1,y1) lies on the line it satisfies the equation: y1 = m*x1 + c So c = y1 - m*x1 Then you can write down the equation. Also, be careful using the triangle, you may have to attach a minus sign if it slopes downwards. Using two points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) you don't need to worry about the minus, it will always work if you do: m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) or m = (y1-y2)/(x1-x2) And if the line is vertical, there's not really a gradient, the equation is just x = k where k is the x-intercept.

Another way is: Take the point (0;4) y=mx+c => 4=m•0+c => c=4. y=mx+4. Take it another point, for example (2;8) and we'll had: 8=2m+4 => 2m=4 => m=2. y=2x+4. 😀😉
