As we age, we often face the challenge of finding a style that fits our new selves. It can be tough to break away from the roles we've played in the past and discover something that reflects our personalities today. It's even tougher when the world tells us that we have to look younger to look beautiful. I want to help you find your style after 60, without feeling like you have to conform to anyone else's expectations.
In this video, I share my thoughts on ageism and how it's still prevalent in our society. The media, fashion brands, and beauty brands are all guilty of focusing on younger demographics, and it can be discouraging to see. But don't worry, I have some tips and tricks that will help you find your own unique style.
Style isn't just about the clothes you wear or the accessories you choose. It's about expressing your personality and feeling confident when you walk out the door. That's why I like to add a bit of sparkle to my outfits with berets, clips, and necklaces. I know it might not be the traditional look, but it feels like me. I want to encourage you to find your own style and embrace it, no matter what anyone else thinks.
So let's talk about it! In the comments section, share your thoughts on the pressure to look young and how it affects you. Have you found your own style after 60? What tips do you have for others? I can't wait to hear from you!
Don't forget to watch the video and leave a comment. Let's support each other in our quest to find style after 60!

I’m 68 and my style has always been sneakers, jeans and tshirts. I do invest in new style clothes. 16 years ago I lost 80 pounds and kept it off. I still dress in shirts that are bigger or looser because that’s how I’m comfortable but my jeans are fitted not tight or full of holes. My favorite color is any shade of blue and I love wearing shirts with some red. Red makes me feel vibrant. I stopped coloring my hair 2 years ago and have lovely gray hair that looks like highlights. I only wear a little makeup if I’m going out to somewhere fancy. My jewelry is a simple pendant with a silver or white gold chain and similar earrings. I’m very plain but that’s me.

I wish I was in the skincare, or cosmetics game as I would be marketing as “Pro-Aging”! I’m surprised no one has done this yet (or, have they & I just haven’t noticed?). “Anti-aging” is offensive to me. We’re fortunate to be able to grow older- it’s a privilege.

White hair and wrinkles I can embrace. Weight gain and tiredness not so much. With your encouragement I'll work on an attitude adjustment. Thanks!

I appreciate so much women staying natural at their age. No face lifts and all the other corrective procedures. I guess those in Hollywood or in front of people think they need to do that. I thank you for staying real to us. I know it’s not always easy for us as we age and looking in the mirror isn’t easy. I’ve enjoyed your transformation through the years and for sharing that with us. It's definitely important to try new things and styles. I have customers in their 80's who dress well and look fabulous because they try the new styles. You can have a more cohesive and curated wardrobe when you choose colors that make you shine. Don't neglect trying a new hair style either. BTW your hair is lovely at the new length.

I’ll be 65 this year, and decided to embrace my age by letting my hair go natural. I stopped coloring my hair seven months ago, and actually love the salt and pepper coloring that I didn’t know was under there. I’ve never had highlights put in my hair, but it now looks like I have silver highlights! I don’t use anti-aging products, and am told I look younger than my age. I think it may be because I’m not a sun worshiper and don’t smoke. I do enjoy a 🍷 now and then. I’m updating my look by mixing my traditional clothes with some trendy clothes. Shopping second-stores is a great way to do that if you’re on a budget like me!

I love colors like bright pink and purple, as well as base colors like navy, black, white, and charcoal gray with a colorful scarf or pearls. I also love hats and capes because they make me feel happy, eccentric, and carefree. Lately, I have purchased two maxi dresses (navy & charcoal gray) in very finely knit merino wool. They are surprisingly comfortable, breathable, and cool enough to wear in the summer. I plan to wear them with silk thermals and knee-high boots in the winter. Getting older can be the most liberating thing that has happened to us. 🙂 Thank you so much for your inspiration, Margaret!

I’m 5’2”& 110# most of my life. I’m 73 now & still enjoying life as a widow. My late husband once complained that he wished I would “dress my age”, which is hard to do considering I’m petite & have trouble finding clothes that fit right at all. I posted this on Facebook at the time, stating “this request coming in from my spouse who is wearing paint stained madras shirts & crocs with socks! All my West Coast friends said “be yourself!” God bless them. It was funny & I hope you had a chuckle at the story.

I love all your advice on embracing your age and stage of life- who wants to pretend to be something we are not? I think the anti-ageing thinking goes beyond the fashion and beauty industry (although I do agree that they’ve contributed hugely to it). I think it’s a society wide attitude, particularly in the western cultures where older women (not so much men) are dismissed as being irrelevant- if you’re not young and pretty as a woman you’re not valued. I’m happy to be 64 and don’t feel any need to pretend to be anything else. As you can see, I also feel strongly about this topic!

I am 59. Some years ago I started going gray, but I really don't mind. The Bible says that it is a Crown of Wisdom. From my Grandmother, her advice was always, wear what looks good on you...not necessarily what the style of the day is. She said that years ago, and I do agree with "Memere!" I used to go to a Baptist Church awhile ago,. The lady minister said in her advice to me as a new minister, "wear black top and bottom...and a splash of color.". So I do!!! I really am not into being "in style", but I tend to wear what I am comfortable in...sweater and jeans...must wear comfortable shoes with my arch support according to 4 foot doctors I've been to!!! Yes, our posture and demeanor are important... probably more important than anything else!!! Thank you for your channel 🙂🙏🌷 Miss Monique 😊👍🎆✝️🎉

I am about to turn 68. I agree with you 100%. I used to fall for all the hype and must have spent a fortune on products that promise so much. No longer. I want to be the best me that I can be and look the best me that I can as a 68 year old. I know my best colours (cool/clear) my body type (neat hourglass) and my style personality (minimalist classic with a large dollop of dramatic). I dress in my good clothes every day (no more saving for best) and do my make up almost as a meditative ritual. I have grown out my highlights and love my grey. I look after my body and my health. I didn't do this when I was younger, sadly, but I do now, it's never too late to change. I am inclined to think in terms of 'youthful' rather than 'younger' as in ''she's a youthful 68 year old' and that's great!

Hello Margaret. Maggie in Aberdeen.66 years old. Never use moisturiser. Don’t drink I did enjoy a gin. Don’t smoke and that’s why I think I don’t look any older. I refuse to go grey. I’m old fashioned. A marks and Spencer dresser and if I went grey I would be old. I smile a lot. I’m a happy person generally. I like my back pack. 😊I have two dogs and I walk every day. I wear a coat and love it. I have coats of many colours. I feel dressed. What’s under not important. Coat and shoes. My hair is a warm brown. Love make up. Clinique. I go through phases where I am a green person. I am then yellow. Then navy. Then black. Then coral. Nice speaking to you and listening to you. The one thing in jewellery is I am the pearl queen. I truly enjoy listening to your words of wisdom. I am 63 and have had challenges all my life about looking good. Unfortunately, insecurities played a part and not having a female mentor like a mother, sister or cousin that held my hand through this made it more difficult. In my later years, my health played a very big part like staying clear of hair dyes (I have lots of grey hair and don’t think twice about dying it.) It’s actually a trend with younger women who are dying their hair grey. Go figure. Going through Covid and having many stores closed and many are closing made it quite difficult to have that social experience of shopping and trying on pants and shoes. Very discouraging. Having to buy from online and then returning them was such a pain. Dealing with weight gain for many years made it more difficult to buy any clothing because there was that chance of losing the weight so I wouldn’t go out buying new clothing. Now that I have lost 30-40 pounds in the past year allowed me to delve into my storage containers full of clothing I refused to throw out. Like you said once, choosing “classic” clothing is ageless. I learned many years ago that buying clothing that were made of breathable material was very important - so I love my cottons. Looking younger depends on your DNA, what you eat and drink, your skin regimen, etc. Feeling younger depends on your state of mind. If that means wearing comfortable clothing and shoes - it’s YOUR choice. But try to take into consideration what is age appropriate (like not wearing mini skirts or see through tops - not a good idea - it send a message) Wearing clothing you feel good in is the upmost important. Personally, I say check out the thrift shops. You never know what you will find.

What a lovely video with words that are positive and not an anti aging ot look younger among them. At 66 I have become a silver sister from a dark brunette and embraced my curly hair ages ago. The condition of my hair is so improved with no dye on it. And the silver goes well with my cool skin tone. I have a dear friend who is naturally blonde and her graying hardly shows! At our age, like you, I dress and accessorize to please myself. Thanks for the positive message!

I'll be 60 this year and look forward to this new chapter and will wear my grey hair, wrinkles, brightly-colored tops with confidence, and maybe even a pair of cargo pants! 😂 Thank you for all you do! You look fabulous in pink 😊

I appreciate the intention of what you offer here. In my experience the approach to being our best at any age is on a metabolic level. A diet of collagen rich foods, bone broths, mineral rich foods, herbs, and a myriad of other ways to keep our energy flowing is a key. Not part of the mainstream approach to living at any age. As an analogy, we as human beings need to not focus on the chassis but what is under the hood. Make-up, hair, the way we dress has merit, but can be a band-aid approach to how we appear, especially if our metabolic health is not addressed. Western Medicine - and mainstream society does not approach life in that manner in my experience.

I don't try to look younger looking. I just want to look nice and comfortable. I love the title of your video! I don't want to dress like a young woman. I don't go around in tight leggings or jeggings with a short top though I do wear leggings. Nor low cut tops unless I'm wearing a tank top or camisole underneath. I mostly wear athletic pants and leggings though I wear jeans occasionally (used to wear jeans all the time.) No shorts for me though I do like cropped or ankle pants, not capris unless they are athletic. No sleeveless tops either unless I am wearing something over them. I tend not like really bright colors anymore. Clothing definitely has to be comfortable though not frumpy, of course. It's not easy to find clothing to buy that I like. I try to stick with things I really like. By the way, my hair has been grey for many years. Does not bother me. I don't think women look younger with dyed hair. I worked in a store for 16 years and most every older woman I waited on didn't look younger to me. I could still see the wrinkles. lol

Thank you I love dressing up too. I love pockets too. I cannot live without pockets. I live on the Oregon coast and is a tiny town. Everyone here dress for comfort. When I dress up, I blend in with the tourists. I enjoy myself.

Thank you ! My journey and never makes sense as the guys are just who they are and we women keep trying to stay young looking! Meanwhile at 75 I say live my best self today! Not going to remember when I pass but will remember if I was a horrible person! So I am never going to be as young again as I am today! Be yourself everyone else is already taken! Blessings 🙏🙏🙏

You are such an inspiration Margaret! I really appreciate the subjects you raise that affect the mature woman. There are a plethora of anti aging messages geared towards women in particular as if we are not enough just the way we. At 67, I have had some experiences where I feel a little bit invisible, but I don't let that define me. I love your tips and tricks and to do it for our own unique expression and not for any outside pressures or expectations.

I love this, better not younger. Sadly you’re right. Age-ism is very prevalent. While the old lady “cloak of invisibility” can be useful, mostly we just want to be seen and appreciated for the way we are. I stopped trying to look “younger” and was happier almost immediately.
@carlsenlifeafter60carlsen11
I agree with you. I think it’s your attitude that makes you pretty or younger. I think if you’re positive and you enjoy life, it shows on your face everyone’s with obsessed with being younger. I just don’t I accept how I look now that I am older I need to update my photograph, but I still look similar but I am going gray now, so I will change my picture when I’ve gone all gray or blonde.

I laugh at most commercials about having smoother, youthful skin. Physically I'm not youthful but mentally I am....for smoother skin drink lots of water, moisturizer 🎉& use sun screen. I'm 77 & proud of it. My hair has a soft grey crown in back, I don't act my age (only a #), don't look my age & consider retirement the next adventure!🎉

I think that is the great thing about thrift stores or Charity shops depending where you live is that you can find style from different decades. I graduated in the 80s I still like some big earrings and bright colors. I have found I have a variety of styles and I have never need to be with the current fashion. I think so many stores have the in fashions but that is why thrifting is fun because you can find a variety of things. I have always been different and I know it but that is what makes me me.
