Although you probably couldn’t mention for RU-vid reasons I feel like a lot of people leave out the abuse Midori inflicted on Punpun and how greatly devastating it was and affected his future actions and obsession with sex. Punpun’s behavior as an adult is reflecting the abuse he endured as a child. Many victims of sexual abuse, and any kind of abuse, end up continuing the cycle of abuse they face (not all, but it’s not uncommon and does happen.), and I’m sure many victims can recount worrying about becoming their abuser. It’s important to not be like Punpun. After it happened, he stated he feels violent/disgusted with her, and this anger he feels is never brought to light as his uncle just forgives her for what she’s done and brands it as “him getting lucky”, which is a sad reality for many male victims of sexual abuse. What he faced was wrong, but he chose to continue the cycle until the damage he caused took the one he lived’s life, perpetuating the cycle of abuse.

Can’t edit it on mobile for some reason but near the end I meant *loved not lived. I feel like also adding in the context that Punpun’s emotions and actions after that happened are very typical of sexual abuse survivors. As someone who endured it myself I particularly like how the manga handled this topic very realistically, even if there wasn’t a happy ending, and if Punpun ended up going down a darker route himself. But unfortunately that too, is realistic for many victims.

I’m glad you brought this up! It was my mistake for not adding Midori into this conversation in the video. I ignored the fact that she actually sexually assaulted PunPun and only realized after uploading video. Good analysis.

Thank you for the summary. I was intrigued by the story, but saw how many people said it very depressing and you should be in the right head space. I have to pass on it, but wanted to know what the story of Punpun is about. This put context to to what the story is. It is very heavy, with dark themes.

I finished reading this manga back in January of this year 2024. and you summarized this manga very well when it comes to the main character - Punpun. Of course, there were the other characters in the manga who had their own storyline. Yet what matters most was of Punpun and why the story is of Punpun Onodera!
