Brought me back to watching guys refinish pianos in my father’s piano rebuilding shop 50 years ago. He had a couple of really excellent part-timers who drove trucks as “regular” jobs. I was 11 and came to him crying when I’d botched a spray paint job on my first AMT car model. He then showed me how high gloss high build opaque “ebony” furniture finishes were ready applied. Rub with steel wool and you got a beautiful satin finish.
This is one of the best examples of a Fine Paints of Europe Doors i've ever seen!!! What kind of set up did you have for spraying the door? Type of Gun and Compressor? Again, Amazing!
Tyler, when you sanded the putty coat, was there any wood showing or did you maintain full coverage even after sanding? (I put on the putty coat on my door but didn't realize how uneven the surface was until sanding the putty. I sanded right through to the wood though. Now i only have about 20% of the putty left on the doors. The door surface looks spotted now but it's even. Do you think I'll need to buy more putty and reapply? This stuff is so expensive, hoping not to have to buy more but also don't want to waste finish product if I'm skipping a critical step with the putty)
if the door is still not flat you will need to use a skim coat. it doesnt have to be fpe. like Elmers wood filler thinned slightly and skimmed. but reprime and see how it looks
Amazing job Tyler!!!! Where are from? I’m your 217th Subscriber. I didn’t know this paint can be sprayed, my dealer told me to brush it on with the Omega Brushes. They really should give more instruction about how to use the paints for different. I really want to spray for my project. Did you add any thinner or solvents to the paint for you application…. Nice Video…
thank you! im from michigan but i lived in florida for some time and did this door there. This was thinned 20% with fpe mineral spirits. i have brushed it before but not with omega brushes, i never listen to the dealers most of the time, you just have to experiment with the products to know the limits
hello your work is amazing, one question buy the same painting. with what can I dilute the paint. I made a sample and I am left with bubbles. I threw it with graco hvlp 9.5 tip # 2.
I like to clean sprayer parts and the system with lacquer thinner then paint thinner or mineral spirits. you can thin hollandlac with fpe mineral spirits
How in gods name were you ever able to handle this door. I just recently tried this paint with their door kit and it is still still not possible to put the weather stripping back in. Its soooo soft and uncured. Over a month. I still have to 3rd coat it as well..
Hey Tyler. Very Beautiful Work! Did u spray your oil primer on or did you brush it? What grit are u sanding with between primer/putty/primer coats? ThAnks
sprayed primer, sanded with 320 on primer and used 180 on brushing putty. i use swedish putty now, because it sands much better and i sand swedish putty with 320
@@tylerdavidson5114 Dude. Thanks for the instruction. I am about to start the process on a plywood suitcase project. I got my hands on some Swedish Putty. I was curious if you thought a grain filler might help to apply before the Swedish putty. I was thinking a product like Aquacoat Grain Filler. Thanks
@@Tsallid i havent used aqua coat before. you can use that or wood filler. but if your going to use swedish putty then there’s no need to fill the grain
Not too back breaking. Just dry times are long and it was my first time using this product. About 40 hours it’s knotty alder. I can get one done in one week working about 3 hours per day on it.
@@tylerdavidson5114 thats right on the mark. I charge $50.00 per hour and charged the client accordingly. I dont think people realize how labor intensive these levels of finish are. Looks like you do great work
@@tylerdavidson5114 that sounds about right my man, it is a lot of work but dry times are longer than the actual work itself. 3-4 hours a day you’ll do a lot to one door
@@tylerdavidson5114 Thank you for your reply. Your results are amazing! I dont have a spray setup but hoping I can get similar with a brush or foam roller. Any other tips would be appreciated. Also, is this FPE's Rembrandt Red?
You can foam roll and tip it off. Just thin it down. And my spray setup for gloss isn’t very expensive it’s a Home Depot husky gun $80. And my new air compressor a makita 3hp 5 gallon $300 with a air dryer $90.
No more than 30% sometimes less like around 20-25 is usually enough. Thinning it helps it lay out better and I thinned both primer and paint. Next time I’ll use airless for the primer with a 308 tip
@@tylerdavidson5114 Great idea though I'm new with this stuff so I'm okay going a little slow using an HPLV and at the crazy price point got to treat this like gold so don't want to overapply it with an airless. IDK, we'll see how it goes. Thank you again for the response and inspiration.
@@tylerdavidson5114 I'm getting ready to order a door kit myself from fine paints of Europe. Can you tell me what color you used? We really love that shade of red. The door looks amazing and flawless btw! Amazing job!
Thanks for all informations my friend. One more question... after first coat of paint ... did you sanded it or did you put the second coat right after dried.( next day)
@@jeanpaul8973 I sanded between every coat 400 for primer and 1000 for top coat. The topcoat doesn’t sand well so you can let it sit another day to let it harden up
Dries for 1678484h.. shit product...must have clean room for drying,,, left the cabinet doors to dry.. next day it looked horrible, nibs, dust, all.kinds of shit... would.not recommand this product.. idiotic properties of this product make it impossible to use on jobsite..
