On a course in London many years ago I personally experienced Master Higaonna's throat grip. Honestly, it was like being clamped in a steel vice. I was unable to move and in the real world any attempt to escape would mean immediate removal of my windpipe from my neck. Awesome karate man - the genuine article and a real gentleman.

The slap is a mighty tool to have in your belt. The directness and simplicity are what make this so useable and effective. The master's devotion makes this look so fluid and easy. But it is a life endeavour. Thank you sir.
@@dojimanoryu4969 Kind of, from a family lineage perspective. But Nakamura sensei is the current world chief instructor of the IOGKF and maybe Higaonna sensei's protege.
In old Shaolin, grappling/gripping w/ hands "literally" is part of the basics. Somehow after the Qing Dynasty collapse, much of the original Shaolin basics ended up in Okinawa. I am a firm believer of the old stories re men's flesh getting torn out by another skilled person's iron grip, or having one's wrist snapped broken by another's strength....
Lots of trade took place between China and Okinawa and thus the basics got transferred to Okinawa where it was further developed into an unarmed defence / fighting system.
@@novrinkov0053 It was mostly Chinese. Karate was originally written "唐手", which means "China hand". The "Shorin" in "Shorin-Ryu" is the Japanese pronunciation of "Shaolin". There is still some traditional wrestling style in Okinawa but it seems like everything else that once existed blended into the Chinese art. Of course, they are taught in a very Japanese/Okinawan way.
Sensei Morio Higaonna showing his warm smiling face with a dangerous and lethal moves of Goju Ryu Karate at ease. Long live Goju Ryu Karate and Sensei Morio Higaonna 🥋🥊👊🤛🤜🇯🇵
We just learned that training your fingers is incredibly beneficial in a fighting situation. Just a strong blow on the opponent's heart or throat and the fight is immediately over. This sensei could rip your throat out. Really impressive.
I Had the great honour to train under higowana sensay in training camp back in Israel 20 years a go. I Was training okinawa Karate for 5 years. Most effective body conditioning, my four arms are still solid like iron even with 20 years passed and I am over 40 now. One more story about higuana sensay , When he came to train in our dojo to hit the makiwara , he completely broke the makiwara , And those who don’t know what it is the makiwara is basically a punching device constructed with heavy iron frame bolted to a wall and flexibel wooden beam. The wood was fine , but the iron frame was split open completely after his punches. Scary amount of power! Thank you for your wisdoms and teachings Higuwana sensay. 🙏🏻
@@joereidy5732 I can say with with 100% confidence that he has my out most respect things back then that spoke about didn’t make any sense to me as a teenage. But today I understand how valuable and effective they are.
As I'm getting older I often discuss with my friends (we are practicians of MA since forever) about how to be able to fight against a fitter opponent. We have few time to train now and we had to stop due to COVID and family duties. More and more we think that hands conditioning could be an answer.
It's very important/useful although that goal is actually better achieved through the mind/body connection. Which is what I recommend some practice in , improve your health and fitness is the first step in martial arts. Especially arts like this one Traditionally speaking in martial arts you would be training for 2+ years before even beginning to learn fighting techniques ect. Qi gong exercises are absolutely amazing btw.
4.30 when morio sensei say "he's pretty hardy" , i know that guy is screaming with joy and pride inside, while still try to maintain poker face from the pain in his arm an neck, haha
@@tingkeikei5115 nah mma is something that is centered around rules...a sport not something that is meant to kill or will be meant to kill unlike this where as you see all the attacks are pointed as the most vurnable areas that could either permently cripple you are kill you something no "sport" can even compete with.
A man who can kill you without messing up his hair has nothing to prove. Plus, he practices the art of dying of old age, and wants to give others the opportunity.
Actually you can do this without supervision. It's a matter of consistency or genetics. I think average time for honing good strong fingers is about 6-8months. But monster fingers take about a year or years of consistent training. Some masters say your hand WILL get deformed from doing it. It's all about what works for you and your body in honing it to its fullest potential. I've done the training to just hone my hand trapping and grip. But i probably could throw a ippon nukite in someones eye or throat. My fingers are relatively thin so im pretty sure most can hone to my lvl. What i do is support half my body weight on my fingers and wait. Till the tension is too much. You can do this in push up stance or bent down. Then you can work on grip strength if you have a pull up bar or weight. Tendons are way slower to build than muscle so take you time and be patient. Respect to this master for his patience in his art!
@Mr. Wansapanatime These people thought the world how to fight, All the armies around the world learned from asians and were trained by asian masters, until now they still do, especially japanese they contributed a lot, back then they didnt laugh at your grand father's face saying, stupid white people we are not gonna teach you! As far as i know. Japanese are amongst the most respectful and honorable people around the world, wether you like it or not. I'm somehow Japanese.
Este sensei me ha inspirado a entrenar y hasta tener ideas. Gracias y espero puedan sacar más clases de cada técnica, la clave es entrenar las palmas y los pies.
I took an Okinawan style of martial arts while I was in the army overseas, the hand training was vigorous at times, but when you’re young, you can endure this training now I am 62 years old, and have much trouble with my hands is finally caught up with me was it worth it? I’m still trying to decide.
