So good to see this... Fingers playing "Harpoon Man"... just found out that he passed and is now playing harp in heaven with Jimmy Buffett... maybe... in between with all the great bluesmen that inspired him to play... June 3, 1952 - November 23, 2023... the dash between the dates are what's important... and he did it so well... one of my early inspirations to learn to play the harmonica... rest easy Fingers !
We were on a gig in McGee MS the first time Fingers played live harp. It was either 1968 or '69. He got good at it really, really fast. I gave him the nickname Fingers because he was our keys player. It stuck.
I first saw Fingers and Larry Raspberry and the HighSteppers in the early 70s. They had released Rock and Roll Will make you Rant and Rave. I heard Fingers for the first time then. Larry told the the story about Fingers. Then launched into Dixie Diner. There is a video on you tube the recording has a little static buy Fingers kicks on that song.😊
This was a real treat! I've been a huge Finger's fan since the 70's, when I first heard him on a Jimmy Buffett album. His playing was key to all of Jimmy's hit songs. I miss him so badly (pun definitely intended) and wish him the best as he struggles with his ailment. Thanks for posting this video, and THANKS Fingers for being my A-1-A harmonica player, ever!
