One of the first things we did after launching the Fingerstyle Guitar school (artistworks.com...) was record Martin’s set at Yoshi’s Jazz Club in San Francisco. He played a lot of classic jazz guitar standards, many of which he also teaches at ArtistWorks. In this video he plays "Georgia on My Mind," which has been covered countless times by so many different artists.
Although it was made popular by Ray Charles’ 1960 version, the song was originally written and recorded by Hoagie Carmichael in 1930. Willie Nelson won a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his 1978 version, and it became the official state song of Georgia the following year.

Martin is without comparison. Arguably the greatest fingerstyle jazz guitaritst in the world. The movement and phrasing is just captivating.

@@secondwave5813 I went looking through the comments to see if my thoughts were already expressed. Martin is a guy I watch to learn from; he has nearly everything going for him -- except that he doesn't create in me the swirl of emotion and thought that I like music for. I guess you could say I find him "instructional" (at the highest level). But you don't have to be a guitar player to like Joe Pass -- the essence of the song comes right out and gets you, and the specifics of guitar playing are secondary.

It's not the guitar, amplifier, hands, hours of playing, strings, finger nails, secret knowledge, etc, etc, etc. It's his musical mind. Guys like this come along once in a life time. 99.999% of us will never play anything close to this and I include all of the worlds 'top' jazz players. There are some classical players who do. ie the late Roland Dyens. Check him out.

It is a Peerless Maestro. Korean made, actually designed by Martin Taylor himself! There are some instruments that come out of Korean builders that are actually remarkable. I own an Epiphone Joe Pass, 175 reproduction from a Korean origin and I must say, it is just beautiful. That's the one that gets picked up and played far more often than any other in the practice room. Peerless is another of those builders, no, not American made, but pretty damn good!
