The flooring in the loft is lovely!…I could have cried when you said you were going to paint the bannister rail/spindles! 😂..Personally I would stain as such lovely wood! ..just think everything will be finished by Christmas can’t wait for the full reveal when everything finished! Xx

I love the natural color of the stairs, it seems a shame to paint it, especially since it’s real oak. A good varnish like boat varnish (which is really durable) might be nice too.

The loft conversion looks brilliant. Maybe, in the bathroom, for the spot where the chair is you should look in the Charity shops for a small shelf unit/cupboard that you could do a DIY upcycle & style. The rood windows/balconies are a great addition.

Fantastic renovation! The windows are a game changer. I have a suggestion regarding your desk & position… if there is room, build/purchase a folding desk for that wall so when it’s opened it will face the windows. Build shelves into the sloped area (where you insisted on putting the outlet) to store all desk items when it’s closed. That way you will maximize your space for filming etc. 🙂

Last time I checked in was when you were first emptying the storage in cluttered dark spaceless mess. With covid coverage I lost track of the progress here. Having done several large and medium homes I was always drawn to the top areas with their unique roofline variations and sense of wide overlooks. Thank you for doing this room as it has been totally engrossing and such a positive outcome of space usage. And that bathroom and window /skylight/ walkout is so well done. Kudos ,Kiddo.. Love this conversion. The stairs and flooring look great one thing to think about, instead of a shelf by the door try a tapestry or vintage kilm to help deaden the echo.

For the last three and a half years my husband has been renovating our home. It wasn’t until moving day we realised how bad it was. We had to put new joists in the bathroom, we were without a bathroom floor for four months. He has put in a new bathroom, new en-suite, mend the roof, re point the chimney, strip and decorate four bedrooms, knock down a wall, put new electrics in, put a new kitchen in, decorate, build a wonderful chimney in the living room with an oak beam, took a fire out of the study and decorate, we had someone put in new windows, and doors, knock down an old conservatory, and he’s just finished the patio in the back garden. We still have the cloakroom, hall, stairs and landing, block pave the front of the house, put a wood burner in the lounge, re turf the garden, buy an awning or a porch for the patio, and tidy up the brickwork. Apart from a carpet fitter, and tiler he’s done everything himself. I’m so proud of him as he has two jobs, and is always on the go. Tonne fair as he’s an engineer nobody does anything correctly and precisely as him. I love your channel as I get so many ideas for my home. Your place is looking amazing. Your sink is so cute.

Fantastic outcome. I could never have stayed living in the house while it was all going on. But gee it does look lovely. And those balcony windows are amazing. Oh, and love your jumper!

Everythng is beautiful! He floors are just perfect! Darker would have made the area seem much smaller and lighter would have been a washout! Those windows are the coolest I have ever seen! I've never seen the pop up AND OUT before. And, THAT VIEW! You seem so close to the city, yet the view looks like you are on the edge of Pleasantville (very one calls my home that bc of the movie - LOL). You made so many wise decisions in such a small space. LLLLOOOOVVVVVVE the natural wood! I hope you are able to keep it that way. I've completed a few projects with a stain called "pickled oak". It's basically a very very sheer protectant with a subtle white wash. I've been using it on furniture as well. I've had pickled pieces in my home always, and I am updating them with a new coat and refinishing some others. The woods are not all the same, so the look comes out little different with each. But, everything is more cohesive. Think Scandinavian vibes! God bless you in your new addition. You work so very hard, so you certainly deserve all of it! I had a feeling the loft would be amazing and you did not disappoint!!! What a beautiful space!!! The bathroom is a lot bigger than I imagined. The flooring is beautiful... I'm a huge fan of the luxury vinyl flooring... I've done my entire house including a bathroom with it. The color is gorgeous. The warm tones do come across in the video. Different lighting will bring out different tones as well. I find that natural sunlight brings out the greys during the day and at night the warmer lights and lamps bring out the warmer tones. Okay soooo those windows!!! Absolutely amazing!!! The view! I would be sitting out there all the time! The storage cabinets were a brilliant idea. I can't wait to see how you decorate it and all the furniture. Such an awesome place to work and film, and also relax and enjoy it. I really am amazed at how big the space is. It would make an amazing master bedroom, too, with the en suite bathroom and those beautiful windows. I feel your pain about not being able to get in there and completely finish it with the construction going on in the rest of the house. I'm in the middle of a whole home renovation and we redid our lower floor with an office and another lounge type room and a game room and it was all beautiful and finished... and then the main floor of the house went under construction and now the downstairs (and the bedrooms upstairs) are completely upside down and full of clutter and totes and boxes and laundry baskets from the upstairs. But keep going! The stress and chaos is so worth it! Also really looking forward to seeing the bedroom and bathroom when that's finished! Just imagine Christmas time when you're looking around your home and all the newly refreshed areas! Although I'm sure it will be done before then, but I'm thinking about how easy it will be for you to get all your Christmas decorations down and how all of your videos will be filmed in all the beautiful new spaces in your house... very happy and excited for you! It looks lovely. They did a great job. You could have another cupboard the same size as your sink to the height of your sink. More storage and somewhere to put your bag. You could have a blind for privacy. Love the stairs. It seems a shame to paint. Looks good. I bet you are pleased

A light stain and varnish on the spindles and paint the hand rail.Its all looking beautiful love the velux window 🪟 you have thought it all through wonderfully.

If you could get it up the stairs, a smart sofa bed would make your office also a potential spare bedroom.

Great result with the conversion and those Velux balcony windows are a touch of genius - make the space that extra bit special! Best investment I reckon :-)

Keep the large mirror in the loft, Iwan. For fun, I photograph geometrical shapes and the play of light and shade, and some of the angles you showed here while filming the Velux windows were magnificent... Those amazing windows, the bars of light cast and the clean unusual lines of the walls have got a thing going on with that lovely uncluttered oblong of long mirror. The minimalist in me loves this. I have a small Victorian flat and once came on a huge mirror (8 feet tall?) with black ornate frame that would have been perfect for this space (which is not large), and I really regret not having bought it. Never think too small! It's your Soul with its infinite proportions you're accommodating, not, as you might think, a fairly small room you are decorating modestly to use now and again! But that's just me... thanks for this video and all the others (I'm a subscriber), I'm looking forward to the loft's 'final cut' :)

Your space looks fabulous and I am so pleased you were able to get the cabriole windows. I had my loft done in 2019/20. I really wanted these windows but I had too shallow an angle for them to work. I can still stand at my top hung, open velux windows and it gives me that balcony feeling with views. I am looking forward to seeing your future videos of decorating and styling. Plants with lights amongst them would look great, especially in your small alcoves where you have sockets. Battery lights would work too. Brilliant video. Thanks for the tour! 🙂

Oh Iwan I’m so pleased for you. Your loft is a beautiful space and long may you enjoy it. As for the Velux windows ……… WOW!!!!!!! I have never seen them before but what a great idea it’s fantastic. When you have decorated and styled it up it will look absolutely fabulous. One thing I would just add is to keep a squeegee in your shower and dry the glass off before you get out as it can be a b****r when it dries lol. It’s taken a while but so worthwhile waiting. The amount of light up there is fantastic!

You should be able to get a square framed wooden thing with shelfs for beside your sink with a basket at the bottom, joint 2 in 1. Then you got your basket with shelfs above for wash bags, flannels etc.

I love absolutely everything in that loft!! You did such an amazing job of utilizing every square inch and thinking of what it can be used for over time with the electrical and storage as well. Those windows are the icing on the cake! Amazing! I encourage you to keep the mirror because I know from experience how much they make a space feel bigger and help the light from the windows bounce around the room, especially in the winter. It’s going to make the perfect studio for you and I can’t wait to see how you use it. I’m looking forward to seeing the remaining rooms as well! Great job! 😊

While pine does not have as dramatic grain as some other woods, it should take the stain just fine. The issue may be that because the grain does not have as much contrast you will not be able to see it if you use a medium dark or darker stain. In the United States we stain pine flooring all the time, it looks beautiful. Personally I would suggest shying away from the light stains that have a yellow tinge because they bring out the yellow in the pine and suddenly the whole world looks like chicken soup. A clear or light varnish should work fine, you should be able get some cheap pieces of pine to do a stain swatch test on. Having the trim be a contrasting color compared to the doors and/or walls adds visual interest and highlights the architecture.

Hi lwan! I'm watching this a year later and you may have already placed the film on the bathroom window for privacy but, another idea is to put up a half of a wooden shutter. It can be painted and it allows you to have an open view whenever you like. You have made this place a home by your careful attention to detail. And the workers have done a great job for you. It all looks fab! It’s such a good idea to live with the space before making furniture decisions. I’m always so impatient to get things in place that I have made wrong decisions on impulse (like buying a double bed for a spare bedroom that was hardly used. Ultimately I got rid of it and got an extendable day bed from IKEA). Making the space as flexible as possible is the key. I love your idea of one colour in the corner with the doors. Very New York loft! I think you’ve done really well with the space. ❤️😊👏👏

Regarding your back to the door... The negative is that you can be easily startled. Put a small mirror on the wall so you can see movement behind you. It's a good option for many situations, like office cubes. Lovely space. Congratulations. ALSO - small space needs all one color, either light or dark. No accent walls. Consider it.

Oh my God, Iwan! That place used to be a dungeon and you turned it into a stairway to heaven(tribute to led zeppelin:)) People can do magical things when they have inspiration! I absolutely love those windows and those white,fluffy clouds travelling across the sky! I am sure this reno will give you a boost to redecorate your whole house. At least that is what i do when i renovate something in mine. I want to redo, even a bit, each and every part. It's wonderful to see everything come together! Well done! This will be the first year in 22 years that I have not visited London, which makes me very sad (and more than slightly annoyed!) -- but discovering and following you, Luke, Hermione, and Kate, with the positivity you all put into your work, has helped keep me a little more connected to the city I do so love.
