Thank God, finally a dog that is acting normal. This is what all of us D.I.Y want to see because this is what we experience. I do with my puppy. He’s not bad, but he moves when I don’t need him too. Anybody that says you r rough has never groom a dog before. The only way to hold them still is my holding on to their face. That’s the part you r trying to clip. Would they rather u not hold him there and watch a pair of shears cut her face. Because that is exactly what would happen. Dogs aren’t perfect they r going to move so u have to make sure they don’t get hurt. I think u did a great job. I learned so much from this. I really love that the dog acted naturally. Not this perfect dog that never moves when you r grooming. Thanks to both of you!

I was looking up how to trim my Standard Poodles topknot and came across this video. I'm so glad that I watched it. My girl acts the same on the grooming table. The last groomer she went to said she was very misbehaved and I felt terrible. They suggested that she goes to training. I've been working with her for a few months now and line brush her everyday, but she does the same thing that this beautiful dog does. I'm so glad that it's not just my dog. My dog seemed to do great until her last professional grooming, now she flinches when we try to groom her left front leg. Not sure if they nicked her or she had a mat that they tried to get out and hurt her. Thanks so much for posting and I also learned a lot about her topknot.

Those complaining about the groomer's grip, clearly have never been trained as a groomer or even bothered to learn the techniques necessary to control the dog. Don't like how she's gripping the muzzle? Something all groomers MUST do? Know why? Because if you let the dog have control, the dog gets cut. I sincerely hope that the people complaining about the groomer's grip, aren't actually cutting their own dog's hair.

For anyone saying she's being too rough or the dog doesn't like it... a groomer HAS to have a decent grip on the dog, if she doesn't and the dog's head is flailing around she could easily cut the dog where she shouldn't- in the eye, the ear, the face.... if you were an owner would you rather the groomer worked safely and held the dog still?? Everyone on these grooming videos is all "the groomer is too rough they shouldn't be holding the dog still!!" Well think what would happen around moving sharp objects if the dog was moving around too?? She isn't necessarily holdng the dog's mouth closed but some dogs we DO do that so they don't stick their tongue out and get a cut tongue. And I promise you it isn't as firm of a hold on the dog as it looks. She isn't jerking the dog around and when the dog moves she lets the dog go and calmly reassures her it's ok. Some dogs just don't like certain things done to them, but as groomers we have to be able to do our jobs SAFELY!!!!! By holding a dog's face still for just a few minutes that is how we achieve that. If it was your dog, just remember what could happen if the dog was not properly restrained while sharp scissors were pointed at their face.... and for people who say they dont' like it you hope they get to retire... how many poodles have you owned? If you don't regularly groom a poodle for LIFE they will get disgusting and matted so I really hope you don't own a poodle if you see it as cruelty to get them groomed!!!!!

I LOVE watching these grooming videos. It's great because I can go back and watch over and over again until it finally "clicks." I have 4 Standard Poodles that I love to groom myself. They love the one on one attention and I love the challenge. It's also a great stress buster. I can happily spend 4 to 5 hours grooming each of them, with little breaks in between so they can have a potty/drink break, and stretch their legs. Same for me, lol. I like to keep it fun and relaxing for my Poodles and myself. It's become a really fun hobby. I also groom my daughter's rescue Standard, and my daughter's Doodle.

I am watching this long after the video was made, but I saw no faults with the groomer's handling of the dog. She encouraged the dog to be quiet, and let it back off when necessary then replaced it into position. Did you see the dog actually sigh and relax, accepting that this was going to be and it would be easier to just be still and let it happen? Look again; it is an obvious sigh. I have seen it with horses I was working with - and sometimes you will see it with children, too, if there is some kind of battle going on. Not a full-out battle, of course, but more a battle of wills, like was happening here. The dog wasn't being overly bad, just not sure she was going to allow this to happen here, at this moment. A few attempts at dissuading the groomer (didn't work), and then that sigh - everything after that (except for a little bit of consternation when switching sides; you will see that often with animals, because it doesn't always transfer from one side to the other, it has to be learned again with the second side) was so easy once she settled down and accepted the inevitable outcome. The groomer was NOT being rough with the dog. You must hold still whatever part you are working on - or whatever part might get into what you are working on - or you can have a nasty cut, or even cut something off. Fling a head around when the scissors are closing, and you could lose the end of an ear, or a chunk out of the nose, or a complete eye. Holding the head still by the use of a hand on the muzzle is anything but cruel. Now, I have seen groomers who are rough and mishandle dogs; not saying there are not any out there. But this lady? Nah. She was calm, talked to the dog, talked her through things, rewarded with soft "good girl, good girl" when the dog behaved. Obviously there are a lot of uneducated people making uneducated comments about things they know nothing about. Great video!

I have a deep respect for loving groomers, grooming is a tough job. I agree that show dogs are more patient with the process, then everyday dogs. I have had 5 poodles threw my life, after 2 burns, and cuts I decided to learn, well 30 years later, I'm still struggling w a top knot, lol. I advocate for animals all over the world, how could I say I adore these animals and not fight for them. The poor Asian meat trade has to be abolished, it's sickening.. Blessings to you fellow dog lover! 👍🏻🐩🐾❣🇨🇦

Notice when she releases the mouth... often the dog doesn't move away... I don't think she's upset. Every dog's attention span for standing still is difference. But with scissors near the dog's face... control of the head isn't just important it's critical to the dog's safety. My poodle loves to run but also loves the attention of grooming... espcially the scissoring... His hair must feel good to him afterwards... you can tell he really enjoys petting and rubbing when his hair has been cut and completely brushed out

I am a groomer and see that the dog is avoiding her, but she is only holding the dog firmly enough to remind it to hold it's head steady. That dog is WAY stronger than the groomer! A standard poodle is actually a water retriever for ducks. They are nothing but muscle. If the dog did not want to be groomed it would not hold still for her. Remember the dog isn't used to being groomed in a wide open, loud public setting, she is used to a grooming room or a van. Just settle down and don't jump to conclusions.
@Flippityfloop44
@Flippityfloop44 6 лет назад
Shes actually not. You'll see when the dog pulls away she put her hand on the back of the head, it shows the dog that while they may dislike the hand on their muzzle, it doesnt hurt. They dont 100% know what you're doing or what you want from them, but keeping your hand where it is and just keeping a firm but gentle grip on it shows them that it's ok.
@kristinarnold1435

She is handling the dog as she should. It's not to hard or to tight. Any less and the dog could jerk at the wrong time which could lead to injury.

The fur on her body looks very messy, and it looks like the bangs over her eyes are too far forwards. And she clearly was not a fan of her face being grabbed like that. I understand you have to keep the dog's head still, but surely you don't need to grab the dog's entire muzzle to do so?

Spirit Song did you even watch the video? she mentioned several times that the rest of the cut was going to be done in another booth later on... she was just doing the top knot. and how do you suppose we as groomers are supposed to hold the head still? when we’re scissoring around the eyes and ears, were supposed to just let them flail around? she was not death gripping the muzzle, the dog could breathe perfectly fine and was not uncomfortable with the hold, just impatient with the process.

She has a secure but not painful grip,its for the dogs benefit so she doesnt get injured from the scissoring.Poodles need grooming for life,like many other breeds.She has a calm demeanor with the dog,she calmed down and was groomed correctly.Whats cruel is people who dont get their dogs groomed regularly ..... The dog is nervous in a wide open public setting. Poodles are antsy dogs anyway and it is loud there with hundreds of strangers and strange dogs. Her behavior has nothing to do with the groomer. That dog is MUCH stronger than the groomer.
