You got some FAS money boards out of those logs. Quite a waste to cut them for RR ties. Best looking RR ties ever!

I am impressed with your ability to set the edge saws on the fly. Time after time, you nail it and produce great looking boards!.

This is perfect weather for sawing in southern Indiana. It is a sloppy mess.

Bad ass on the edge saw. Man that is slick how many years did it take to master that. Nice vidja.

I started to learn the controls to the saw when I was 18. I’ve been developing that skill and many many others, ever since. I can run a good spread of other equipment as well. After running the saw like that, running other heavy equipment, is easier than breathing

What are your de-barker blades made of? Carbide? How long do they last? Do you sharpen or replace dull blades? I just love seeing Oak on the mill; yours or mine. Dave
@Helmsburgsawmill
@Helmsburgsawmill 5 месяцев назад
Yes carbide is correct! So those teeth aren’t really a cutting tooth, but they do get wore down over time. Yes the head will hit the bull wheels. You have to avoid that. But they typically just get replaced about once a year. It’s kind of hard to put my thumb in that time frame

Do you consider your tie production the gravy for the meat and potatoes? Still impressed with the badass vertical edger.
@Helmsburgsawmill
@Helmsburgsawmill 5 месяцев назад
Yes haha. It’s a good analogy you made! Not the main course but definitely an additive. We like to see it all go out

Do you sell the ties directly to a railroad or to a broker who would then have the ties treated and then sold to a railroad?@@Helmsburgsawmill
@Helmsburgsawmill
@Helmsburgsawmill 4 месяца назад
We sell them to a broker who treats them! Sorry for the delayed response

Mills all seem to use front end loaders would not a large telehandler be afar better forklift, but still be capable of a large quick attach bucket? I enjoy watching your mill.
@Helmsburgsawmill
@Helmsburgsawmill 5 месяцев назад
So me and my father have actually talked about those! And you’re correct, we need the bucket attachment. And this may sound silly, but the pivot point being in the middle of the machine is what makes it good for us. Those other loaders steer from the tires, and it can make swinging long bundles around corners a pain.
@loveistheanswer8137
@loveistheanswer8137 5 месяцев назад
@@HelmsburgsawmillOur telehandler lifts 10,000 lbs, reaches 45 ft high or 35 feet straight out, has two wheel steer, four wheel steer, and crab steer. It is actually very maneuverable for a large machine. We are building contractors, and the ability to put skids of lumber three deep makes organizing our lumber quite easy. No better forklift in my opinion.

I hope you're have good money for you're work my friend, coz I hear prices are down specifically for poplar, I got a question, how much is the percentage of loss over a log? Meaning before it's all made into regular boards?
@Helmsburgsawmill
@Helmsburgsawmill 5 месяцев назад
So you’re correct😂 hardwood markets suck right now. Walnut and white oak are the only two that are high right now. But we’re not taking any loss on any of the logs we mill🤷 when lumber prices go down, log prices go down. It does get more difficult to move lumber though. Thankfully we have good relationships
