Join us on the first leg of our Scandinavian adventure (Although we've just learned only the three kingdoms are considered Scandinavian, so when you add Finland, you get Nordics. And Estonia is classified as one of the Baltic states, so welcome to the first leg of our Scandinavia/Nordic/Baltic adventure!) as we visit Finland, Estonia and Sweden. Reindeer burgers, medieval cities and Viking blood sacrifices!
Starring: Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt
With Special Guests: America Young, Dove Meir and Bear McCreary
Written by Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt
Edited by Shahab Zargari
Original Theme by Elliot Herman

"Scandinavian adventure", goes only one Scandinavian country, Sweden. Finland is nordic and Estonia is Baltic. 1:18 it's not a lake, it's part of the sea

Thanks for dropping some knowledge on us! I've amended the description to hopefully correct at least one of those mistakes!

At least, one of the countries is in Scandinavia. Scandinavia is Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. No aother countries!

Denmark is Nordic, but not Scandinavian

@@henrikmanitski1061 Incorrect, Denmark is not on the Scandinavian pinensula, but is considered a part of Scandinavia, I'm not sure if it's for historical reasons, parts of southern Sweden used to belong to Denmark.

Denmark is part of the European continent geographicaly, but part of Scandinavia by culture, which is considered more important when desciding where they should belong. Finland on the other hand is absolutely mostly Scandinavian, culturally and socially, but as their (main) language finnish, is not related to the Scandinavian or even germanic language group they are not Scandinavian. That is the main reason why we almost always refer to our region as the Nordic. The Nordic region consists of Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Sometimes people from other parts of the world confuse this with northern Europe which includes the Baltic region (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) and most often Netherlands and British Isles. That is wrong because the word "Nordic", in this case talks of a cultural connection that does‘nt exist with with the other countries mentioned.

I actually have seen a picture of the Church of the Rock at my old Church because their denomination had Scandinavian heritage. It's more impressive in footage. Also, loved the Bear McCreary cameo!

Very nice video! And a fellow no-tomato-in-my-burgers! 😆👍 But it annoys me to no end when Finland is called Scandinavian. Only the 3 kingdoms are considered Scandinavian, but when you add Finland, you get Nordics. Estonia is classified as one of the Baltic states.

We're sorry to have annoyed you, but we're happy to have learned something new! Thanks for that. Too late to change the narration, but I'll add a note in the description about it!

It looks like a lake, but is actually a cove of the sea. It has a name, which includes the local word for a cove. The connection to the sea is nowadays hidden under the bridge, which is also named after the cove, Töölönlahti. ( Lahti = Cove)

Thank you for setting us straight on this! We love learning about a country even AFTER we've visited it :)

@@KingdomOfTheMonkey It seems that many visitors see the waters around and the cape of Helsinki as lakes even though they are part of the sea around Helsinki. Helsinki doesn't really have lakes. Neighboring municipalities have some. This coastal area isn't part of the lake areas of Finland. There are about 180 000 lakes in Finland larger than five ares (500 square metres / 5,382 sq.ft). So they exist, just not in Helsinki.

Cool to see your hometown Helsinki through visitors' eyes. This might surprise the foreign visitors on the historic Suomenlinna island: it also has one of the country's many open prisons, probably some of the people you saw on the island or on the ferry were actually prison inmates, they can move freely during the daytime. The so called open prisons are common in Finland, the NBC News on this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VRHCe8npnDA.htmlsi=0TgZKKEn6KQJXFG7

Yay! We wish we could've stayed longer. I guess we'll just have to come back :) And we didn't know that about the inmates! So much more humane than American prisons...
