I have heard Lahti is the "Chicago" of Finland and this is not for positive reasons. I decided to walk around Liipola because it's supposed to be the worst neighbourhood in Lahti to see what happens.
Well Done Video ! - but How Do You DEFINE " DANGER " ? as it was slippery - DANGER to Hips - There was a sign of KARHU - The King of The Forest ! The Lady was upset of Your Filming - Thank God - that She had No SPRAY ( BEAR spray ) Waiting for a Customer like You ( Not buying anything )- as KARJALA Beer IS ALCOHOL - as many DO drink IT like MILK ! Gigarettes were HIDDEN - If You Are UNDER 18 - There was also Other People - with NO MASK ! This was FULL OF DANGER - that went unnoticed - Thank God there was NO TRAFFIC !
Hei. Kannattaa tutustua "Liipolan Betoni" -nimiseen ilmiöön. Tämä kulttuurin keskittymä on aktiivisimmillaan kesäisin. Voin lähteä oppaaksi jos tahdot. :) Hyvä video.
As someone who has lived in Lahti my whole life, its not the numbers, its the people and the general vibe of the city, its depressing and grey and the people especially in liipola are crazy.
Correct, but then again they're private property, so that the proprietor has the right to choose hir customers. Subject to non-discrimination, true, but a customer who shoots a video without permission definitely can be removed from the premises. I.e. the other customers cannot complain if you record them, but what happened here with the staff well can. If Diego hadn't left, he would have been trespassing.
Drug crimes should not be included when discussing how dangerous an area you are in. Drug crimes are nonviolent by definition, and the drug laws were created around the world to be used against minorities and the poor while the powerful and rich do all the same drugs and more without getting in trouble for the most part.
@@korpimuisto Racism? not all minorities are from different color. Why you assumed that he meant only the race part when he used comment "minorities". sure he also used frongly "minorities" in his coment becase even if person would be member of "minority" it dosent mean that they are less fortunate or belongs to poorer background than majorities. just like most richest peoples can be grouped in "minorities" just because "majority" of people's aren't millionaires. Minorities: can be different ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation or even disability. but it can't be used representative only one of these categories because it is representing all of these together.
Thanks Diego, this was fun! I used to go to school nearby Liipola, and actually all my classmates were living in Liipola. Let's just say that they were not academically inclined. They were more into experimenting with alcohol and tobacco.
@@diego.suomessa I moved from Lahti first to Great Britain where I studied and worked for a few years and then back to Finland to the Helsinki region. Last year I drove through Jakomäki in Helsinki which used to be famous for being a really shady place. I was in disbelief it was so calm and rather nice there.. Many neighborhoods in Britain were so much worse.
I’m originally from Lahti so I know the reputation. Usually Lahti came alive during the Salpausselkä winter games or any of the World championship games. Otherwise it’s such a sleepy town. Happy new year! May it be better than the current one. P.S. I feel a little cheated by the ”baby” pelicans… P.P.S. A hiddend mother in me wants to tell you to wear your woolly beanie instead of the baseball cap, which is no match for the -12C
Moi! Thanks for the videos. As a Finn I would say that you have very Finnish "dry" humour 😀 and by you saying Älä puhu paskaa sounds more funny than scary 😁 and your drone mr Mäkäräinen, my goodness 🤣
Finns are funny. One single crime in the area you live and Finland is the most dangerous country in the world. If they only knew? Happy New year Diego. You are doing good videos.
@@diego.suomessa Yeah "Jalis" is nice, not living in Lahti anymore though. If ever moving back, the new housing areas by the Vesijärvi lake looks cool. If I just could afford the lake view :)
When you recorded in the grocery store, Lahti rose to the top of crime again. You get the most serious form of punishment in Finland, a no-no finger. Kidding. Maximum punishment is 14 years in prison... I think, correct me if I'm wrong.
Lindo video, loco!!! Jajajaajaja. Voleo en el orto, a la mina de el market. Awesome video. I visited Helsinki, 2 years ago. What a beautiful, an awesome place. Abrazo, pibe!!
I lived in Liipola most of my life. There was creeps & weirdos walking around in 1990s and early 2000's but it's been relatively peaceful after that 1990s depression era.
Liipola is my childhood neighborhood in the 1980s and 90s. It had its reputation even then but it wasn't dangerous or something of that nature. More like that there were more working class people, more politically left people and in the 1990s more unemployment than elsewhere. As a kid I never felt it was a bad place to be. Let's see the positive sides: Almost walking distance to Lahti center, forest trails start from your front door, and very affordable apartments many of which have a great view, as Liipola is built on a hill.
The term "Chicago" of finland is misused these days. back in the 70's, when the going was way wilder than now, the name came from the fact that Sopenkorpi-area had many slaughter houses and meat packing plants. Also it's a city by a large lake, just like Chicago. I have also read, that Lanunaukio is one of the most dangerous places to be moving at night. This in my opinion is complete bs. You will only have trouble in Lahti, if you're one of the junkies or mess around with drug business in other ways. An average Joe is fine here, I'd feel safer walking, heck, even passing out at Lanunaukio or Liipola than at Helsinki train station or Kontula. The people who make the claims are mostly the media trying to sell the image of some sort of fantasy gang turf. You'd probably never come across a United Brotherhood member, for example, unless you're messing with their things. they're not part of the everyday scenery. I lived in Liipola as a kid and sure I had all my bikes stolen and got bullied by the mean kids now and then and the drunks were scary sometimes, but you're not gonna get killed there if you're not messing with things you shouldn't mess with anywhere anyway. And a friend of mine grew up in Liipola too in the late 80's/early 90's. back when the area was a bit more rough, and it wasn't all that bad back then either, he says. Nobody wants to live next to a junkie or a drunk, but they got to stay somewhere too. all an all Liipola is a fine enough place as long as you have your stuff locked up tight and don't mess with tweakers or get involved with the junkies.
I love Finland. I went to Lahti back in 1995. This coming winter I´m coming back to Finland to visit friends. I´m the fool that s coming when it´s winter. At least I know how to dress for it. I remember my ears hurting from the cold.
Originally Lahti as Chicago had nothing to do with crimes. In the 1920's Lahti had a lot slaughterhouses as Chicago. The younger generations turned it to be crime related comparsion in the sixties and the seventies, when Lahti was growing fast and was in some way restless place and crime numbers were higher. Actually, Detroit would be better synonym as Detroit comes from French language meaning sound in English as geographical form and Lahti does same quite closely in Finnish language meaning bay in English.
Kicked out of the supermarket, tsk tsk. I'm just teasing. ^_^ You might want to get some business cards printed up with your RU-vid channel URL listed on it to give away to people who ask you why you are filming. You can tell them its for your channel and they can check it out later. That might seem a little less "sketchy" to the cashiers, that way. ;o) Thanks for these videos about Finland, I really appreciate them!
You can record video, but you can not publish that video without permission. So some one who is in video don't want to, can report to youtube and they might take this video down.
@@diego.suomessa Yes, translation is very useful. I do not speak English well, but I understood all of your talk because of the translation into Arabic👍👍♥️♥️
I have lived at liipola for 7 years when i was a little and i have seen many fckd up things but the most fckd up time for liipola was in 80s and 90s but now days its so much better place to live
Nothing to be scared really, no matter which city you go to. Some areas in each city in the 'poorest' areas yes, but 'real' poverty doesn't really exist here. It's only the junkies and other scum causing it, just like everywhere else and yes below zero temperatures may calm you down a bit too :)
Are You able to returns to that STORE - ever again ? Did You Get " porttikielto " ? Do You know what PORTTIKIELTO means ? How far IS The 2nd close STORE !
one of the reasons why you feel Lahti is safe is exactly what you said, there are hardly any crimes for Finns. Since mainly property crimes and robberies target Finns, you are a foreigner so you will not be robbed so easily anyway. The saying comes from the fact that if, for example, I come to cycle around Liipola in expensive clothes, with the camera and so on, I will not be robbed.
I'm not sure what you're trying to proof with your recordings or to who... Is it actually new information to someone that Finland is one of the safest and equal places on planet earth? 😂 We'll done Diego! Keep on educating your viewers by slipping on those icy streets during broad daylight on your way to local corner shops and bars 🎉 What a brave soul, GJ.
Diego, how come you can stay outside just with a crew neck, jacket and scarf half way round your neck, and not get ill? in -12! I do cold showers etc but I still suffer with thermowear layers, turtlneck and proper winter clothes in 5 degrees c. How come :D Well.. great content anyway. Take care!

Probably this Sale market have had so many crimes and drunk people in this store. And not too common for people film in grocery stores so I guess that is why she did not want you to film. :)
Lo único en que me puedo fijar viendo tu video es en tu ropa de otoño que llevas a -12 grados!!! Si me vieras a mí como ando forrada con tremendo ropaje, siendo finlandesa...
@@diego.suomessa I guess you have not hang around that much, I am married with a finnish woman, and i know what i am talking about, not that she is one of them, but mostly will, i have seen them throwing bottles of water on "mamus" faces multiple times. But yeah, we will tend to sell the perfect image of finland.
@@ALPHABRAVO487 Sorry to hear that you've had such bad experiences. I've lived right next to an immigrant reception center for years and I think at least 25% of the people in my residential area are non-natives. I have never seen anyone treat foreigners with disrespect. I'm sure many people don't like them - there's always bound to be such feelings between natives and non-natives - but very very few people are openly hostile towards foreigners based on my experience. Not to say that bad stuff doesn't happen, but I hope you realize that the people you are describing are as much a minority among the Finnish population as migrants are in this country as a whole. Hope you have better experiences in the future.
Lahti is called the "Chicago of Finland" due to the early industries of both cities, when they were known as slaughterhouse cities. Vlogging in Finland is so easy and fun. You can film inside of the stores in Finland (they are puplic places) but it is polite to ask for permission when filming customers.
I think the most dangerous places are big public transport locations (because of foreign pickpockets, beggars etc.), big parks and grills at night after bars close, where drunk/high people might get into fights. Most of the crime happens between people who are already part of the criminal lifestyle like alcoholics, drug addicts, gang members etc. Nothing for normies to worry about as long you're not too rude to those people and respect their personal space. E: I think even big cities like Chicago are quite safe during day time and it's mostly during the nights when you need to avoid certain neighbourhoods. You should visit some grills etc. around midnight to film what it looks like. Even then it's probably just a bunch of loud people waiting in line.
1. Finland IS not Even in top 10 safest countries in The world 2. I live in Lahti and i Have got robbed several Times 3. Liipola IS not The most dangerous Area in Lahti. The Lost dangerous areas in Lahti are Mukkula and The downtown
When I look at the homicide stats for Finland on Wikipedia, it's actually quite high. Higher than France or the UK. What's up with this? Is it false information?
Low salaries/high taxes, alcohol/drug problems, jail sentences are laughable, biker gangs, migrants. Those are some of the reason for high homicide rate. Also, migrants make up over 79% of the rap3 cases. They are a huge problem here.
The real question is... Kotka. I do feel worried that in the future Finland will turn into Sweden. Or, maybe in the future the EU will disintegrate so the 'Swedes' will not be able to migrate to Finland and cause problems.
