Thanks for all the vids, this is a great substitute to have for winters like this. I have to say, embarrassed, that my favorite part of the video was the tube scrap on the hook point! So simple, but so good, my fingers thank you!

Thanks for watching Andrew. It's always the simple things that seem to stand out.

Very nice tying sir and good that you didnt edit out the "thread breaks"..it shows just what can go wrong and how to address it. Never heard of Finn Racoon before its a new one on me,i will invest in some to see where i can incorporate it in my flies.. Many thanks for the video..

i see most guys wrap hackle and rib the same way which i think and was taught many years ago to be the wrong way,,the best way to wrap hackle and rib it is to counterwrap the feather,,not the wire..the reason is when u counter rib sumthing and then tie it down your clockwise thread wraps are loosening the material because the thread is going in the opposite direction,,especially when its wire or tinsel..thats why if you noticed its always a bit tricky tying down wire when its ben counterwrapped..if u counterwrap the weaker material which is always going to be the feather,, tying it down isnt much of a problem because the feather has texture and will compress at the shaft so not a big deal..once the feather is counterwrapped now you clockwise wrap your ribbing which of course is binding down the feather and securing it.... now when you tie off your ribbing you are actually tightening the rib down because both the rib and the thread are going in the same direction..ive tied hundreds of speys and dees for steelhead and classic salmonflies also for years and never do i see anyone do it what i think is the correct way..nice fly btw...my 2 cents on ribbing and counter ribbing anyway...i did get a chuckle from the 3 thread breaks and after the second break i new it was the bobbin that must have a burr in the shaft as ive experienced that myself..tight lines..

ever consider a reverse tie for the wing right at the start and then fold it back and lash it down when you get to the front? easier than a dub loop...

Jason, being new to the tying part of fly fishing for steelhead your videos are very helpful and I appreciate seeing you have some of the challenges we face with breakage and dubbing spinner issues! Great recovery on several critical processes. For some reason I've caught most of my fish on hobo flies rather than weighted and larger intruder style flies, do you find this true for you also or is this just something I'll find changes depending on flows and time of year and fish preference? I tend to use mow tips and either a floating skagit or intermediate skagit for getting my fly to what I think is the proper depth, and think they tend to swim and pulsate more unweighted rather than weighted. Thanks for your vids and your thoughts and input on my questions would be a of interest, I've been converted from hardware fishing to fly fishing for about a year now. In nearly 40 years of chasing these beautiful fish with gear and bait I caught the biggest of my life a 39 1/2 X 22 on the OP on a fly last March and have been addicted to swinging for them ever since! Cheers, Steelyfisher!

SteelyFisher, first off, nice job on the Steelie. and thank you for watching out tying videos. Its hard to say why you catch more on unweighted all and all. I tend to switch flies a lot during a day. From run to run, I'll adjust my tip and/or fly to match the water I'm in. Sometimes I'll switch mid run if I feel I'm not getting down in the middle (typically deepest) part od the run, then switch back to lighter in the tail out. Typically though, If you have the most confidence in the hohbo style flies, and that's what you catch the most fish on, that probably the fly that gets the most fishing time, and there for catches the most fish for you.
