As usual sublime camera work and editing. I commented yesterday re the hamburger festival in Helsinki and Finn Air being heaven. Well what we need is Finn Air flights into Melbourne via Singapore. Not the ones leased by Qantas. Hope you don’t mind if I ask you, what is your occupation? Many thanks. Les in Melbourne.

Given the distance to HEL from any airport in Australia, I don't see Finnair operating their own flights all the way. As it stands there are great transfer options at Singapore, Bangkok, Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Osaka and many others. Re work, importing & distributing mainly food related products for grilling, bbq etc. But my years working in the travel related industry in years gone by give me the itch to travel...

Nice to see this video! I am in AY99-100 for a trip next autumn. Interesting if the load factor will be this high and I hope they expand some of the service with that second meal or a bit more complimentary snacks. I liked and picked them because of the late night departures; and that Economy Classic has date change flexibility but was surprised about the seat selection policy. Buy in advance or get whatever during check in... 30€ for a standard and consider 100€ for a comfort or bulkhead/emergency. Not cheap but I haven't flown long haul in ages. 2lcpteck 52A/L, the emergency door window+aisle seat at the same time seems the most interesting in the A350s. I think that an ordinary aisle seat will be good for my night AY100. I am quite curious about how Finnair might assign seats on checkin and if it can be changed afterwards; definitely don't want a middle seat as solo traveler.

@@wotajared having now flown between Helsinki & Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Tokyo - Haneda & Narita, plus several to/from London on the A359 loadings can vary. This flight from Hong Kong was on a Sunday, I tend to find weekend flights are a little busier. There are snacks in the rear galley of the Economy cabin, plus they do walk through the cabin a few times during the flight. There were several paid snack options as well such as Muffins, Sandwiches, Potato Chips, Nuts, Noodles, Cheese Platter etc. I always have a small ziplock bag (or 2) with things like nuts, candies etc which if not eaten, (specifically nuts, fruity etc) just throw it out upon landing, or leave on the aircraft (so no quarantine issues). The comfort seats, especially the bulkhead seats are worth it. Thankfully with my OneWorld status these seats have no charge. I guess the risk you run with not pre-selecting seats is if it is a moderately full flight then most people tend to go for window or aisle seats, so you may end up with only middle seats when online check in opens (you can select your own seats at that time, excluding the seats you need to pay a premium for.

assuming based on your ability to sleep comment, the seat was comfortable and the additional pitch was an added bonus. I may fly on AY10 DFW-HEL on an award ticket so I am hoping to buy a seat in premium economy or economy plus just for a pitch greater than 31" :P

I find the seat totally fine, I have a few flights in Premium economy with Finnair in a few months time, but they look to be even more comfortable than in Economy. Keep in mind Economy Comfort is only the first 4 rows on each side (not the middle section) in the A359 (Rows 31>34), but the extra 2.5 - 3 inches makes a huge difference.

Have Finnair reverted to two options for the Economy main meal on their long haul flights? Because I read it was just the one option for both the main meal and the pre-landing snack…
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 3 месяца назад
This flight had 2 options, Either the Chicken in Oyster Sauce with Steamed Rice & Vegetables, or, Egg Noodles with Beef & Mixed Vegetables. The pre-arrival meal was only the single Egg based meal, no second option. For my most recent flight from Helsinki to Tokyo (Narita) the following was served, Japanese Miso Chicken with Steamed Rice & vegetables, or, Spaghetti with Beef Meatballs, Tomato, Marinara Sauce & Cheese.

I wonder if the bulkhead row 31 would be better or should I opt for row 32. Since it's a long haul, I thought bulkhead seating would be best for the legs. Any recommendations?

I just flew from Helsinki to Tokyo (Narita) for part of my return flights home after this flight from HKG. This time I went for 31A, and whilst it is marginally narrower than seats like 32A (Due to tray table and IFE screen being in the armrest) I found it much better, especially how easy it is to get up if you want to stretch your legs or go to the bathroom. The added legroom is a huge bonus.

The map freezing issue I had somewhat on my recent A350 flight to LHR as well. I was able to use it for a good while, and if I didn’t move it at all then for as long as I wished to, but after a good while of moving around it just freezes. Could be down to the fact the A350s didn’t get any updated hardware, unlike the A330s, but this is just my own speculation. I see Finnair is trialing serving two meal options on HKG, HND and NRT routes. Would be cool if they keep this, and expand it across their whole network, but the biggest cost cutting exercise I see which really takes from the experience is the lack of a second meal/snack service on the JFK and DXB routes. It just feels wrong for a premium carrier, and if they’re investing in the service, I hope they reintroduce it. Pillows would also of course be nice, as Finnair actually had great pillows, but let’s not demand to much from a strugling carrier… Anyways, even with the cost cutting visible it looked like a good flight with nice cabins and food.

I think of my last dozen Finnair A359 flights, this is the 2nd or 3rd time the Panasonic Maps system has been glitchy, especially this flight from HKG. I just got off a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Narita, the main meal option was a Japanese style Chicken, and a Beef dish. Breakfast was just the one option (a fruit plate/box would go so well I personally think, sometimes Eggs, Beans & Potatoes are just not what you want after sitting down for 12-14hrs). And unless you are up the front, sadly it is a case of BYO pillows (something else I would like to see returned). Plus yes, as per your comment, whilst flight loads are ok at the moment for Finnair, the issue with the nearby closed airspace is causing all sorts of issues, including increased operating costs.

Is there an AC outlet for charging a laptop?
@ausflyer
@ausflyer 2 месяца назад
There are universal power outlets below the seats. You will find the power charge will be enough to power the device, but to charge will take a very long time, if at all.

Comments, opinions, ratings, comparisons, anything?
@ausflyer

There are comment in the description, I chose not to rate or compare anything, purely because the service I receive will, or may be totally different what someone else receives. However the hard product, food offering (or lack thereof) drinks etc are shown. Basically for the average person who has a booking on AY100, or other flight I have uploaded, it gives them a look at what to expect, and from the Economy cabin, usually up the back. I like to research my own flights, and tend to find most of the good videos solely focus on Business or First Class.

The meals looked small and really awfully presented.

Unfortunately boxed meals never look great, although the several similar meals I have had since did look ok. In regards to size, they were ok, definitely not the biggest means I have had on a flight. Given he way airlines are going, and the pressure to stop using plastics, foils, etc, it won't be long before all airlines are doing something similar (excluding premium cabins... I hope).
