I had a nice, early production "Finn Matching" M/39 come into the shop, so I thought it would be fun to surprise Fox with it while out at the range. I even hid the 7.62x54R ammo so he really wouldn't see this one coming. This is one of the finest milsurp rifles ever made, so will it be able to alter his long-held disdane for the Mosin-Nagant family? Watch to find out!
This rifle is dated 1941, and maker-marked VKT, which was the original name for the company we know today as Valmet. When it comes to M39s, this is about as good as it gets I would say.

I love my M39's. Both of them shoot really well. I forget that they're Mosin pattern guns. 😁

Absolutely gorgeous. That's one that I've yet to catch. Should have jumped on one years ago when I thought $400-500 was just too much. Ugh

I love how unashamed Misha is with his love of the Mosin. These guns have been a major part of military and world history for 131 years. I have a Russian 91/30 (1943) and a Romanian M44 (1955). People with ADD, used to doing mag dumps out of an AR or AK, will just need to take a deep breath and learn to work the bolt. Next up: black powder!

Is it weird that i sincerely can't see any reason at all to feel ashamed of some good old fashioned mosin love?

My understanding is that those things shoot beautifully, not just for a Mosin. Henry at 9 Hole scored a hit at a kilometer with iron sights after pulling one of his best runs on practical accuracy with one. Your friend may appreciate it more once he gets the sights downrange.

Precision shooting, thats excactly what I was thinking about when watching this. Also Henry did not use m39 correctly in 9-hole. Usually his missed shots were high because m39 is designed for 6 oclock hold. Aim at the beltbuckle. Once I red an interesting article written by U:S officer and historian who explained that normally all armies ww2 time accept barrols if they were tested under 4.5 but in Finland it had to make under 1.5 - I dont know if thats true though. Beautiful accurate rifles served all over the world.

@@petrisyrja-kokkila7103 Different armies had different acceptance standards, often they are published but aren't entirely comparable. The German army for example had different accuracy acceptance standards compared to the US Army. 4.5 MOA sounds about right for an M1 Garand, I believe the modern acceptance standards for an M16/M4 are 4 minute of angle (4 inches at 100 yards group).

Fox will love that 1000% more after you install a Timney red cassette trigger pack, which adds a rem 700 style safety that can be cut off or shortened to Fox's preference. 👍

M39 has / is trying to have a floating front hand guard. I am not sure how difficult it was to craft them like that, so that even after varnish and drying it would still have a free float barrel. But, a world-record rifle descendant, so...

I have a 28/30 and a M-39 both rifles are great shooters, I only paid $69.00 for my 28/30 back in 1988...

The M39 is about the only mosin i havent got. Ussr mosins were $39, when they got to $79 i stopped getting any more, the M39s were about double that. I recall the M39s had to shoot 1.3" groups or were rejected.😊

Best Mosin is still a Mosin. Maybe Fox would appreciate an Enfield for speed, K31 for Swiss straight-pull goodness, or go all the way back to the Krag-Jorgensen for absolute smoothness.
